Hi,
My '75 mazda, which was supposed to be metric all around, has gone imperial on me. There's a blank plug in the manifold where i'd like to screw in a fan temp switch. The plug has a thread that looks like this: - outer diameter 16mm to 16,65mm (tapered) - pitch is 1,5, kindasorta What kind of thread is this? Any chance that there are sensors on the market which have thread like this?
thanks

Probably some kind of hydraulic thread, sensors tend to have those kind of things.

I can screw an M16 sensor in there, but i'm worried it won't seal properly. And if i use thread sealer, I'm worried it won't ground properly

I'd hazard a guess and say 5/8UNF

Could be 5/8" JIC (18tpi). Certainly not BSP. Don't know about Metric tho

Very much doubt its tapered. Could be worn, but thats alot to be worn by, and it isnt the kinda thing to be screwed in and out more than once...
5/8 UNF my guess

More than it should be, but not as much as it could be

Yes, i figured it would be 5/8 something
It really is tapered, like some kind of pipe thread (JIC? NPTF?). An M16/1.5 goes in, but not all the way through. I can't find any sensors with tapered thread.
Thanks for your input, guys

5/8" NPT doesn't exist, and never has according to my copy of 'Machinery's Handbook'
AFAIK JIC is the same as UNF but NPT is on it's own.
