MkII 1.3, 1.4s and 1.6s are CVH powered, as are 1.4 and 1.6 MkIIIs. I'll be honest, I just read "top endy" and thought of CVHs... Learn something every day - thanks. Didn't "CVH" stand for "Considerable Vibration and Harshness"? EDIT - to fix quote tag.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

i had the same once Forgot to check oil, took a motorway turnoff in a spirited way and killed all the big end bearings in the same time ;D I opted to drive it to it's last resting place (~100 miles) and this is what happenend: Starting it up at home: Somehwere on the motorway: and after 80 miles it broke Towed it to my mate and then drove it into the barn: So for me it didn't last long, but the trip i had to make was 100+ miles over the motorway, taking b-roads was not an option, so that probably didn't help

Slightly OT, but at my old road, 2 years ago, there was Vectra that visited every morning to pick someone up and it had the most hideous death rattle that made you shudder :-)
Went back there at christmas and parked on the road, and the Vectra turns up! Still running and still sounding the same.
Must be worrying to drive anywhere important though!

It wont be the 1.25 zetec. It would have s**t a rod at the thought of less than max oil. curse word engines.
OHV will do much better without oil, and despite all the haters, the CVH will do alright too!

may as well try it, new oil and filter, drive it around... if it breaks then sell a few bits off it and weight it in and you may even make a tiny profit, but even if you don't you're not going to lose much

Indeed, it will be fine IMO. It could last a mile, it could last 1000s. Only one way to find out . But I may as well join in with the stories. The Porsche I bought came with quite a knocking engine. So much that the specialists I took it to were surprised that it even ran! It held oil pressure mind you, but the state of the no.2 bore was pretty dire (read scrap). This was the engine before it was taken out. Bar it starting to knock more (that tap was a little deeper than the video made out:Mobile phones eh?), and smoke more (so much that I rarely floored the car or drove it spiritedly) as the miles clocked on it was fine bar the high consumption of oil and the odd drip mark on the driveway from the knackered crank seal (which was only changed a 20,000 miles before the engine was taken out). FWIW, I did around 3-4,000 on that engine. Bar friends at meets who said I was 'silly' and could risk a rod coming through any moment (one of whom built that Phantom that was featured in PPC) it did the job... unlike my mate's K Series with a fresh HG!
