car is a good idea IMO, but id imagine it will sound all wrong, probably be too light so as to screw up the 'ass in the air' stance of the stang, and it is mixing brands which equally i don't like. plus, annoyingly, why use a stupid overrated stang in a film set in japland, where there are such beauties as the CROWN, laurel, early datsun syline things, lil mazdas... and i've just thought the most lethal combination - shoudl ahve been the (wonderful and amazing btw) Rb26 in a celica ra28 liftback. that would have been amazing. more a max power film than retro cars unfortunetly.

get over it guys  it's a bloody film made for entertainment end of !. it's NOT a dig at V8 muscle if anything it a very good attemp to introduce the import guys to what can be done with a muscle car. if you watch the film with the idea that oh they shouldn't do that to that then your not waching it for the right reasons, i've seen all three films, i like J car's, i like drifting, i like muscle cars, i like drag racing ,i DON'T see a problem with this film infact i thought it was a pretty cool idea with the skyline lump even with the A team style of doing it ;D. we don't get that many car films released giving everyone of them bad press does not help as for the elenor mustang i liked it and i don't like body kits as a rule it worked it complemented the lines of the car and brought it bang up to date which is nothing like the way chavs do cars |

That seems like a lot of work and expense for "hopefully" 200 BHP from 250 cubic inches. I like whacky six pot tuning (Rambler's alloy six, the "leaning Tower of Power" mopars, the Hemi 6, etc. even the old stovebolt) but you spend lots of money compared to building a more conventional power plant. I have a merc wioth a 250 Falcon six...200 Hp...not much, but TORQUE is king on the street...and it didn't seem like the mustang guy actually did much apart from rebuild the engine.They're really primitive engines today but ultra reliable...thats why the merc has one in it.I bought it as is for $50 off the bay so i'm not to blame... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D |

Cross pollenation FTW If I cared about what engine SHOULD be in it then I might as well be a train spotter. As long as the engineering is of a high standard I don't have a problem with it. In fact I'm now going to rush out and buy a numbers matching mid sixties muscle car and swap the engine for a 110,000 mile fiat panda lump |

mercmad, aye, torque is good. But for the money involved in shipping motors from AU to US you could build a 302 with a pile more grunt. But then, if we all did the same thing then the world would be a dull place.
Nightmares - I'll reserve judgement for when I see it (I'll wait for someone to loan me the DVD) but just because its a car movie doesn't mean its a good car movie. There have even some right stinkers made and theres no point in applauding them for making bad movies.
As for why they didn't use a CROWN or something, simple, they want to sell the movie big style to US audiences who won't relate to that. The use of US muscle cars in 2F2F was due to the movei company doing consumer surveys on what cars to use to get the biggest US box office with the film and thats 97% all they care about.

Thats a fab 'stang, since there's now a drifting challange in the uk has anyone came up with idea of entering a retro car in it? ) since the start of U.K drifting there has always been retro cars entered and taking part, its only really now since its taking off big time that there is less of them in the competitions. regarding the Rb26, what a curse word idea, if you had to put a japanese big power 6 in there, then 2jz all the way. eats the rb for brekkie. |

Oooh a film about Japanese cars ...hmmm I will have to go see that! Waits in anticipation to see lots of 'NHOA Hot Olds J-Tin fodder' and loads of 70's styled 'BOSOZUKU' cars  Nowt wrong with that providing the skyline is an early 70'S version |

Oh yeah, it's the Top Secret RB26 powered one! ;D ;D ;D The 2JZ and 1JZ are fantastic engines, but... eat the RB for breakfast is lunacy! Comparitive too and competitive with but neither destroys the other in performance stakes. |

ok yeh i guess i got carried away with the whole " eating for breakfast" thing.lol, but 2jz's can take some monsterous horsepower.
ive never been a fan of the rb26dett, much prefer the rb25 (sound better;) )
my friend is ordering/has ordered a rb30det from R.I.P.S which i'm sure you have heard of.

yeh its working out to be ridiculously cheap for something that should be good for 400+rwhp with the right turbo attached. bit of a step up from his rb20det anyway.
another guy who works for redline magazine has got one being built and waiting to be sent over going into his gtr aswell.

Exchange rate is pretty good for you chaps at the moment and being we mostly get what Japan doesn't want anymore it certainly can work out quite well for people buying from here.

film aside..meatballturbo..tell me more about mods for lexus v8s.... the only stuff i've found is a guy building a twin turbo LS in the states and a company in NZ who can sell you throttle bodies and other little bits. I would very much like to know more... I don't know too much myself, other than in AUS/NZ they are pretty popular amongst the retro crowd, putting them into things like Valiant chargers (hemi 6 in a valiant), instead of a boat anchor US 8. Also i think they get used as the V8 of choice by Aus rodders when they want something funky for a hibucks, hightech build. I imagine too, that TRD or Toms must produce some tuning parts, even if you need to import them yourself. They don't list any V8 models, but I reckon Fensport would be able to sort parts for you if needed. I believe there is at least one V8 or Supra 6 TT engined IS200 in the UK, as well as a few beams engined VTTi 4 cylinder based RS200 Altezzas. I'm sure that L-tuned in california would be able to sort stuff if you were willing to import. |

Then stuffed it full underneath with R34 running gear, with an RB30, one huge turbo and an Apexi PF-C ecu. Would be pretty cool to pull up along the battlestar chavtastica everytime at the traffic lights, and then nal it.

Would be pretty cool to pull up along the battlestar chavtastica everytime at the traffic lights, and then nal it. I had an RB30E in the gold South African R31 Skyline in my sig pic below. It would have made a great conversion in the 240K, but the R31 was so unusual it was good to keep it complete (it now lives in Holland). For day-to-day use I reckon almost any RB dropped into the 240K would make it a nice drive, turbo or not. Nothing really wrong with the old L24E, but this would be such a neat upgrade. |

Indeed, and for curse word and giggles, my 5spd C110 L24 with Twin SUs is faster than my brother's 5spd R32 RB20DE. I'd change to an NA RB20DE only if I was running triples on, thusly replicating the S20, otherwise I want at least a 2.5 (although the stroked RB20 to 2.4litres would be cool for namesake reasons) and turbo as well. |
