I'm experiencing a humble pie and schock moment right now. Some of you may remember my rantings the other day about me getting SERIOUSLY wound up on the road. well, DaveRapid pointed this thread out to me. Ok, so its on a modern car forum, but the message applies to anyone who uses the roads. I know that in future, I will most cetainly think twice before reacting. Next weekend many members here are gonna be making the trip to Santa Pod and I'd hate for anything to of happened to anyone simply because of road rage. Hotwire, I hope you don't mind me posting this, but i think the more people who see it the better. link to thread

jesus f*cking christ, i do wonder if that blokes account is exactly truthful people have a habit of forgetting things they have done to encourage a situation... but either way being chased like that is bound to be scary i think id have been shitting myself. night time wouldnt be so bad, clear road. etc etc.. daytime or whenver is bad. if he had a mobile phone he should have called the bacon boys.. obviously they wouldnt have done anything too quickly as they are rubbish.. but there is the slight chance they might have gotten off their arses and come helped out..sounds like a very frightening experience.
i had to deal with a loonie once, honking and flashing me cos i was doing 55 in a 60 at night.. bizzarly he had loads of room to ovetake. he kept zooming up behind me late breaking.. so i let him get past me and then did exactly the same to him and drove like an absolute nob to see how he liked it. yes wasnt clever at all and afterwards realised i was a bit of a pr!ck for rising to the challenge.
but something like that blokes tale really puts things into perspective and you never know what tw@t you could come up against..
on a lighter note. he could have crocodile dundee'd their asses, and done the old "that aint a knife.. this is a knife" and pulled out a machete;)

for gods sake!!!!!!!!! well the other week i turn off into a built up estate terribly bumpy road full of pot holes and usually kids running around so I'm doing 20, suddenly i have gold clio about 2 foot off my rear end which really pisses me off so i slow down which seems to make him more irate getting closer and flashing his light (the road is plenty wide enough and no parked cars so he could have gone past me quite easily, eventually i get so curse word off with this prat i drop to second and push pedal to the metal (what a beautiful sound hehe) hit 30 and he's backed off i then reach a sharp downhill bend so slow to 20 so i don't end up sliding into a kerb prat head suddenly appears 2 inches off my bumper now ive really had enough so i slam on the brakes he pulls out with an oncoming car (which had to swerve into a sideroad) he then cuts me up I'm hardly moving he was so close to hitting my front end, blocks me in jumps out his car (looks in his late 30's) begins shouting and swaring at me for messing him around i shout back he shudnt of been on my bumper he then trys to tell me i shouldnt be driving at 20mph i again tell him he has no reason to be tailgating me at which point he gets more irate "don't eva f*ck'n try that curse word agen kid you'll be sorry, he turns back to his car and i burst out laughing (hope he heard me laughing haha) hmmm must start keeping a wheel brace in the door pocket again, oh and i really need a truck of war / volvo.....slam on the anchour write his car off and dissapear quickly ;D james bond oil slicks smoke screens and spikes spring to mind too, sawn off is a bit risky police wise JOKING about the last one obv although id only go for the tires don't want to give passers by buckshot

Thats scary, cos I tend to get easily wound up when I'm driving.
Its one thing being followed by someone, but for them to show such blatant disregard for who's watching them, cutting other people up and driving on the grass, they clearly weren't "playing".
As soon as the knife had been shown, i'd be on the phone to plod, telling them exactly where I was heading and to meet me there. And they'd probably be more than happy to cos using a phone while driving carries a fixed penalty.

james bond oil slicks smoke screens and spikes spring to mind too leaky VWs work well for that i don't get something about that story though. how could they see his "dirty look"? a driver in front of me could be facing the wrong way and steering with their buttocks and i probably wouldnt notice. i probably nark a lot of drivers in the buggy. i have to rev the engine a lot to keep it going and they probably think I'm impatient.

oh side note people i don't actually carry weapons in my door pockets, i rember max power did a survey on this and it was so shocking it made national news, did a large article on a guy that got 18 months for pulling a replica gun on someone, swat team was waiting for him at home

thing is that most people who pull out a weapon and wave it all around arent very likely to use it. I would be more worried if someone started following me but looked calm.

I've had similar happen to me in the past but not quite as extreme, the best way to shake someone off is to pull up slowly to a T junction (making sure you don't come to a standstill) and pull out in front off traffic just close enough so they don't stop but so there is no room for the car behind to pull out. I've done it in the past a couple of times.

4` snap-on breaker bar in the footwell for wheel nuts It is getting worse out there I seriously considered putting a bloke into the central reservation on the M6 toll road a few months back for our own safety he was a proper loony and whatever I did to let him go or keep out of the way didnt seem to have any effect A wake up call and a big crash dealing with the consequences of his actions seemed a sensible option at the time I felt entirely justified in doing it as well which was slightly more worrying People have no idea just what they are playing with, there are very big consequences and your tin box will not help very much above 30mph..... I do think people need to understand this sometimes ;D

Winds me up when someone would rather tailgate than pass you, in extreme cases what I do is indicate and pull right up to kerb like I'm going to get out, let them pass and get back onto road. Would rather them in front than behind, they tend to go 5mph over the limit and disappear anyway.
I think all this stuff has been caused by them repeatedly showing Duel on ITV3.

ive had it happen midly in my car a few times, but when on my bike, thats when the worst seems to come out. I do a lot of 'street' riding, which occasionally pisses off drivers (usually going too fast). The one that sticks in my head was the time my good friend gary got chased for around a mile untill a cutting with grass banks, he rode up the grass bank (about 20ft tall) and the driver pulled off the road and tried to follow him! Crazy crazy fools J

That's a terrifying account! There are some total nutters out there, like those guys who stabbed that student for no cause, who should just be strung up.
Hear hear.
I avoid any form on confrontation on the road, it's just not worth it, it'll only end in tears.
If someone sits on my tail, point blank, I'll do nothing to speed up, merely give them more room to overtake, or slow down if they're peristant.
(Or stick the clutch down, pop it in reverse and see what happens then ;D)

feck me what a nasty story
had a bloke in a 4X4,a couple of years ago, take umbridge at my 30mph driving about 10:30 pm . he overtook me and blocked a mini roundabout in front of me, and stood waiting for me with a table leg in his hand, i stopped short of the p*ick and reversed into a side road, and then drove the other way, as i knew i couldnt out run him. reported him to the plod, giving reg no. etc - never heard another thing about it

Sadly, I too have had an experience like this.....I 'brake tested' this guy who was tailgating once....turned out to be the wrong thing to do. At the next roundabout he undertook me, stopped in front of me, got out and came running up to the car. He then tried to smash the side window with a knife... luckily there was just enough room to get round his car so I was off sharpish.
It certainly changed my attitude to other road users.

90% of the time they think they are harder than they are behind the wheel. best hing ive found is to get out of the car, everysingle time ive done this they have a sudden loss of balls and drive off

I'm not sorry, but all I can see here is a load of c**k waving. Can we just stop this? I think Skodanormans initial reason for the thread was admirable, but this is getting out of hand.

Sorry mate, but I don't see what it is we are doing wrong? All we are doing is exchanging different viewpoints and experiences.
