what a load of sh*t. sure its retro or whatever, but has everyone forgotten these little things were absolute load of shatpank, that wont have changed. and yes before anyone starts wittering on about how we all lust after loads of other rubbish cars..well at least some of those other ones had character. somewhere along the line peoples senses have lost them and anything old/retro suddenly becomes good/"cool".
i'm sure that would change if you had to drive one they are just absolute curse word. for a time i fancied one as a trackday car only after seeing some hillclimb metro's but my sense suddenly returned when i realised that a lot of work had gone into the to make them non-sh*t

Oh Mister pogweasel! It looks like you'll never be convinced. I'm under no illusions that they are pretty dire automobiles in some respect, but I still have a strange urge to own one. The gf won't let me have a small car again becuse she says that I behave like "a thug" in them. Check the interior! Love that colour scheme I'd love one, but it isn't really high on my "to buy" list. Too many thirsty uber-luxo-barges to get through before then, but as a project (given time, money and space...as usual...) I'd love to do summat daft like chuck in a 1.8 K-Series or a 820 Turdblower unit.

Metros were BRILLIANT! I started a thread about them on here recently... They truly handle like big go-karts, and are HILARIOUS fun to drive! SUPER practical, split fold rear seats and Issigonis interior packaging. Bus-position steering wheel like a Mini, superdirect responses, good ride from the Hydragas suspension and they look GREAT in a period green or yellow colour, all skinny-tyred and "Mini Metro" badged. They were WITHOUT DOUBT the most technically interesting and cleverly designed Supermini of the era.
What's NOT to like about THAT? ;D

you might think its a load of sh1t, and you'd be right, but so what? You would need to re a proper brain-damage retro dweeb to put yourself through the hardship of driving such a car, and I would take my hat off to anyone that committed. Thus whoever takes it on is guaranteed hero status in my book, and the car is automatically cool.

Personally, I'm no fan of them....
That one looks tidy though
I just think they are dire cars.. lowest of the low, a bean counters answer to a problem and a great statement as to why British cars have "that" reputation.

I just think they are dire cars.. lowest of the low, a bean counters answer to a problem and a great statement as to why British cars have "that" reputation. Absolutely 100% WRONG. They were a cleverly engineered well-thought out solution. They really were quite an amazing revolution when they were launched, nobody had seen anything that clever in a car that size at the time. What was around then? The Mk1 Festa, the Polo and the Renault 5? All worthy cars, but come on, not a patch on the Metro as a space-efficient, quirky, neat and effective shopping trolley. They really were, at the time, "A British Car to Beat the World". Build quality aside (the French and Italians weren't exactly blemish-free in this department either) they deserved a far better image and reputation than they were ultimately saddled with.

Well, I think the Mk1 Fez and Polo kick the Metro's ass personally. I don't dislike the Metro, but if it was between that, a Mk1 Fiesta and a Polo I think I'd go for the blue oval

Hmm, remember that the engine in those metros was basically untouched from 1959, powertrain-wise the other european stuff around at the time had nothing much to fear from the metro. However for packaging and ride/handling they were tip top.

However for packaging and ride/handling they were tip top. A+ apart... Of course. The Mk1 Festa lump wasn't exactly young either though! I like Fiestas and Polos too, obviously. But I really struggle to see why people dismiss Metros so quickly when they were, at the time, at least as good as the rest and in many areas markedly better at doing what they were designed for

What colour is it? Povo-spec? With the indicators/sidelamps in the bumper? WOW. aye, all that ! navy blue, factory 'go-faster' stripe, blue velour interior, looks ready to be delivered to BSM for an unsuspecting spotty teenager to wreck the clutch.

I'm gonna sit on the fence on this one - I've owned a couple of poverty spec ones with no windows in the back and to be honest they were quite good fun and very usefull for moving stuff about - a lot of space in the back..... (incidently the other halfs Polo actualy has more room than my old metro vans did with the seats down so that carts stuff now and then!!) - As for saving this one - I hope someone does but only cos it's fairly sound and wouldn't take much effort to keep it like that. - As far as buying it (or any other Metro) goes it would be way down the list of wants in my book - maybe as high as page 654 and as a result may never happen... VW Polo of a similar age is a far better car IMHO although you have to accept the brakes are poo on a Polo

Its strange. I never really liked Metros when there were loads about. But now because i don't see them that often they have become sort of, a little bit, in a way, interesting. Cool in a naff way. But then i am an Imp nut so what do i know.
