So...... Been thinking about selling the Suxo and buying something a bit cheaper and older and for some bizzare reason I started thinking about BX's. What are they like? Have they reached retro status yet. I feel there's a large gap for tastefully modified ones. Especially if you can drive around with the suspension down ;D. Anyway what are peoples views? Here's a pic to help you decide

A very early one with the small orange indicators would be trouser-rupturingly cool.

Shonky old piles of Dogga, If it wasn't for their quirky hydrowhatait suspension they would have disappeared into oblivion like Peugeot 405s have.

I dunno if I would get a small indicator one, mainly due to them being rare. Hmmmm pug 405..... hadn't considered one of them.

I had the thought of a BX yesterday, still considering future film trucks, and this looks minty and useful on many levels, hydrowotsit, good economy apparently, and nice n clean n funky. cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4653502845I for one only have good memories of my mates dads K reg TD model, comfy and lots of fun rocking out to Metallica over the twisty yorkshire outback roads moons ago. There always seems to be a question mark over reliablity and quality on Chitrons when rounded mechanic advice is sought, as for 405's i thought they were ok but i guess you don't see many!

I quite fancy a 1.9td 405 now! Vey much along the lines of the silver on I posted above.

See if you can find a 405 mi16x4. My mate has one, he posts on here as bazgtmi. They are basically a bx in 405 clothes. It has all the hydraulic suspension and super sharp brakes from ther bx plus its 4x4! Mi16 lump providing the goodstuff in them aswell, not a bad combination imho.

I'd have a BX over a 405 any day. Much more interesting. A BX estate for extra points. I don't think they rust all that badly as some of it's plastic (like the bonnet). I'm with Mr_B, early ones are super cool. Usual reaction from people when you mention big Citroens is "Oooh, that hydrowotsit suspension is unreliable and expensive", but it needn't be. There are plenty down the scrappers and it's not really rocket science to fix them, just a bit more involved than a MacPherson strut type arrangement! ;D I nearly bought a BX last year, but the fella never turned up.

mi16 4x4 would be ridiculous to insure (i'm only a bairn).
I really like the look of a 405. Especially low and smooth.

I posted last year that I thought that they were more trouble than they are worth, however now I have made an almost political scale U-Turn and think that they are ACE and hardly anything could be better than a BX leader 1.9td estate except perhaps a CX GTi Turbo2.

Cool, well if i get one, it will be exclusively a load lugga/ film truck so i'll have to only rely on it for that, thats the plan, honestly though my mates BX was so good.

I went from a 106 to a 405 Mi16 and used it as my daily hack. They are huge cars in comparison. 405 was a really smooth car and handled like a car half its size. I would personally go for a BX as they are smaller inside and handle and look better. Mi16 engine is wonderful! My old 405

I'd like a BX GTi. Dunno how well they shift though. They did a 1.4 version. That must be pretty damn slow!! I've driven a few 405s and the word that sums up the experience is..... anaesthetic. The quick versions are probably a bit more exciting. But nah, if I had a choice I think a 405 would be quite low down on the list really. Now a 505.... that's different.

There is a super cool powder blue, very early BX 14E near where I live, often see it in town. One day I will snap it and you will be blinded by its astounding beauty.

Ok Citroen experts IYO, which hydrowotsit suspended would give least hassle out of the tin, which are the most reliable, etc, even upto xantia and xm age? i wanna pick summat up under 1k with history or excellent maintenance in the future. not bothered about toys. Smoothness, reliability and some kind of economy are ideals, looks are a bonus.
