Went to Castle Combe on Saturday for a classics action day, and rode up there from Taunton with my friend Clive in his Land Rover hot rod. Took a few more pics for those who were interested and a little video when I got dropped off in Bristol afterwards. Top day out and I'll give Hotwire a disc with some pics for a gallery. The front suspension, nearside, you can just about make out how close the inner wishbone bolts are to the ground. It cruises really well at about 80-85, although it does clip cats eyes it's that low... Wish I'd just left it next to the exhaust pipe really ;D video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=14vtz5c

Haha! I've driven up that hill! I usually sit at the cafe at the top on the left and watch the traffic roll by, usually quite a few classics around there!
Ace pics and vids, always wanted to see more of it, even though I've seen it in person twice ;D

Gangster. Is it quick? I'd love to take that to a LR show, it would curse word a lot of people off!

Gangster. Is it quick? I'd love to take that to a LR show, it would pee a lot of people off! It's not neck snapping, and it's got long lazy gears, but it pulls strongly because of the lack of weight. Steve the builder took it to the 45th? 50th? Land Rover celebrations a few years back and ended up being forth back in the line up starting with the oldest Land Rover present. It went down surprisingly well.

I doubt many folk in the LR world would be offended by it.
Most likely to attract alot of home-brew beardies wanting to see how it's bolted together, though.
Very few Land Rovers stay as they left the factory, and originality buffs are deffo in the minority.

Is it still 4WD? It looks like it has independent suspension at the front.

It's a cut and shut Rover 80 chassis with a Disco rear axle narrowed so the usually offset diff is in the centre, the front suspension being original with different springs I believe.
Steve who built it is a Land Rover guy, in fact any sort of Rover so it was built on a strict budget with anything he had lying around. It runs exclusively on LPG, with really good weight distribution due to the engine being so far back, although it makes the centre tunnel and floors almost too hot to touch.
It's been a long time since I've ridden around in anything that attracts so much attention. We had a middle aged woman in the passenger seat of a Megane Scenic filming us on the motorway... I can't remember the last time I saw a similar person even look up ;D

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
