Mazda spun some bizarre models off that late-70's 929 series (haven't got a clue what model code thay are). I personally wouldn't call that a hardtop as it's not pillarless, but hats off to them for producing a pointlessly different version of the normal saloon.
121 coupes in both 2dr and 3dr versions as well, brilliant. And then there's the option of rotary in some of them.
Congrat's on the purchase Pogweasel, if you're looking to move it on in a couple of months please let me know, would be a good daily to replace the Laurel.

This 121 'Landau': Has just sold for £130!!! To a zero-rated n00b on French ebay, as happens to about 80% of cars sold on there. I have emailed the seller telling him I’ll match the price of the winning bidder if he doesn’t turn up, lets see what happens.

Strangely ugly yet attractive thing it is. I think I prefer the stacklamp, but I'm undecided.

Pogweasel, what's going on with the mileage? Listing says 64k, but to me this suggests less....

Pogweasel, what's going on with the mileage? Listing says 64k, but to me this suggests less.... Seeing as that's only a 5 didgit odometer (+ obv 1/10s of a mile), it's almost certainly done (at least) 106,000 miles.

My Amazon has only a 5 digit odo too, & the 'missing' digit is at least 2, possibly 3, hence my cynicism!

But there were two cars essentially the same but with different rooflines/doorframes. Hence, sedan and hardtop. *shrug* 3dr 121? Where?

Ah, you might have caught me on that one. I was thinking of the 2dr being the Landau version with a notchback bodystyle, and the 3dr being the fastback version but does that actually have a hatch? Whatever, still two coupes so fairly barmy.

No, the fastback is a sedan, too. Whacky, yes.
A friend has several. Over here, they're cheap as chips, if you can find one, even in RX-5 form. The fastback more so than the Landau, which we never got rotorised. They're greatly unloved for their "uglyness" yet they're a far better car than the more popular, earlier, RXs (and getting a sensible diff ratio into them makes them even better).
