Might be looking at getting a Mk1 Fiesta, was hoping to pick up a granny spec 1.1 or a 957cc in good nick, in either brown or gold with a bit of luck. What do I need to do to it to fit the 1600cc? Someone said something about the water pump and the timing cover being different and then the gearbox and halfshafts or sommat. I've got a 1760cc block with forged pistons etc and would be keen to drop that in instead of the stuffy 957cc. Since it's just a bit taller than the 1.1 and 1.3 block is it really that involved?

I don't know the answer but wanted to say that I learnt to drive in my Dad's old W-reg metallic light blue Fiesta Ghia and it was cool, wish I had it now!
Presumably if it's anything like a Golf engine swap you might need to cut the engine mounts down or alter the bonnet a tad for clearance issues?
Could you put a 5-speed box in too? Ours used to scream at anything over 50mph in top (4th)! ;D

As I recall theres some complexity in doing the 5 speed swap, and people suggestion modifying the floor pan to accept a Mk2 front subframe to allow the 5 speed to fit and all manner of such horrors.

Yeah not bothered about 5 gears tbh. Thought I might point out that the block is about 1/2" wider then the 1300 as well, which might scupper my plans of a weekend swap.

I thought 1300 & 1600 blocks were the same externally?

Yeah me to. The 1600's definetly possible ford did it with the xr2 which used a 1600 crosflow producing 86bhp. Get in contact with the fiesta centre they're supposed to be really good and can sell you all manner of conversion equipment to put a cvh(or zetec) in and convert it to 5 spd.

Are FWD crossflows and RWD crossflow blocks the same in the engine mount department? I know a mate gave up trying to put an XR2 lump in his mk2 Cortina, which previously had a 1300 x-flow in... Edit: 1600 Fiesta engines are certainly near as damn it the same, save for the height difference. Might have to part with my mk1 Fiesta shortly.....

I beleive the engine mounts are cast in different places on the FWD/RWD ones. I believe there are some other minor differences too.

1100 and 1300 lumps are the same, the 1600 is a bit taller and 1/2" wider on one side. I was kind of hoping it'll just be a matter of using the right sump and engine mounts. Can't see why they would use a different block but that's not to speculate on.

Lol, I have the same question on both!
So looks like the old engine mountings might be in a different place. Booger. That's scuppered my gold 150hp Mk1 grannymobile plans then.

No, now lets get this straight.
The 950/1100 cars used a velentia engine. This is very simlar to a x-flow but in reality totaly differant setup.
The 1300/1600 used a modified x-flow engine. Its simlar to the one in a RWD escort etc. but the block, crank, sump, timing cover are all differant. The block is shorter and the mounts are differant (one is totaly missing one one side of the block) The timing cover is shallower to clear the chassis rail and this means you have the use a simplex chin setup aswell.
To fit a 1300/1600 fwd x-flow into a car that had a 950/1100 in it you will have the change all the engine mounts, the gearbox cradle and the driveshafts (plus lots of little bits) so its not simple!!! best way is to find a 1300 or xr2 and break it for the bits.
A RWD will not go into a fiesta period they are substntialy differant so make sure you have a fwd engine
A 1600 is a straight swap with a 1300

Slater that's just what I needed to hear. Cheers mate!
Looks like it's going to be a Pop or a Y getting the crossflow then.

Slater that's just what I needed to hear. Cheers mate! Yeah, good one! About time I learned something about Fiestas... Looks like it's going to be a Pop or a Y getting the crossflow then. That's sounding like an excellent plan. Model Y FTW though!

Aye you need the split drive shafts to fit an x-flow. Trouble is these have a habit of shedding thier splines if you give them mild abuse so it would be nice to find an alternitive!
