I was also intrigued by the black FRST and as the seller didn't include a phone number, I Googled his email address (forget it, now) and after correcting the error in it, I tracked down his phone number - 07871511167 - via other private ads placed elsewhere online, such as this one; www.tackle-trader.com/classified/293326/delkim-alarms-x3Anyway, I text him and was like many others, poised to drag my trailer straight down there, but I got no reply. Maybe the number is of use to someone?

Is 'Kes' still part of the GTR scene? My mate Laura used to own this one: She had a grey 1300 GTR lookalike before that and another 1300, a red one, before that.

I'd say go with a better manual winch - worm screw, two speed etc. After thinking about it, I agree. Less hassle and it's not as if it is a trial to hand winch a car on or off. I can't easily find one with worm drive as well as two speeds, though. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking more of - if I chop out all the rust in one go, will the car fold in on itself And a timescale - well before I retire in about 30 years time would be nice Brace it and you will be fine. Unless you start removing sills and the roof etc it will be fine, anyway. There's plenty you can cut out without those worries, yet. So until you find panels, what's the plan, remove the bolt on bits and take stock of what you have and need?

Well curse word is so bad that I should be ashamed of the language I use about it, so cut the affected areas out and see what is left. If you can't find it, you will have to make it. There's no point in leaving cancerous steel in a restored car, because you can't get the panels. What do you think the lads on here restoring RA28 Celica's etc do? Plus, trimming it back to decent steel and coating with Electrox or similar, ready to be repaired, will let you see where you truly stand and do wonders for the old mojo. Depends on when you plan to have it on the road? Chop chop! (LOL at the swear filter on here. :/)

Cheers folks.
Yeah, my mate has the same design Brian James as me and his is mounted that way. That is how I plan to mount an eleftric one, too. As not only does it centre the cable, it keeps it out the way of the handle for the tilt bed.

I recently bought a tilt bed trailer with a MAM of 2600kg, although I can't imagine I will carry anything over say 1600kg. As you can see in the picture, the current manual winch is badly fitted so it needs to be triangulated to the chassis or ideally, moved. If I am going to that bother I would rather replace it. My question is do I need to fork out a load of money for a Warn etc or, given the occasional use should I be looking at a Superwinch perhaps or even something like this Ninja www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warrior-Ninja-4500-12v-Electric-Winch-with-Steel-Rope-/301999647986?hash=item465094ecf2:g:uLAAAOSwgY9Xc4Pf ? I don't mind buying used and I don't mind not having a 'name'. The only real requirement I have is that it has a free spooling clutch. The Ninja appears decent, but I am unsure about longevity. Any opinions? (Kinda retro car on board to make up for boring post!)

I had one a few years ago. 2.3 turbo and welded diff. Well, it was a 360. They aren't a bad car, but as mentioned they are curse word on fuel and handling. I never could get away with the front end on them.

I had a '97 GTi (sunroof car) for parts, in the summer. It had patched rear sills and crusty rear arches, but no other rot. 99% of them don't rot anywhere else (front wings may go on UK cars), they are very resilient, when compared to S-Body stuff etc of the same age.
The sill rot comes from the inside, out, Once it is visible on the outers, then the inners are toast. Pull the seat belt cover trims panels off, and get your hand down in the inner box section. If it is kippered in there - probably due to the factory sponge still being present - then move along, IMO.
Tin top cars are obviously the best at resisting sill rot. Sunroof and T-Bar cars drain into the sills, so chances are they are going to be in a bit of a state.
The rear quarter windows can also occasionally let water in. This affects all variants.
As said above, the mechanicals are rock solid on both turbo and n/a. Power steering relay can stick, there are other things too, but not many.
