So ive stumped up on yet another project . This time a 91 190E 2.6 ( More on the 2.6 bit later) Anyway it runs fine but as with any older car has some issues . Things to fix Both sun visor mirror / light / cover thingys are busted. Headlight washers defunct and disconnected . Heater only works on the drivers side. Spare wheel is a rusted steel mess with a tyre dated 95 . Few bits of rust here and there and many many previous owners . Let the adventure begin

The hideous job of the rear hoses has been achieved 🙂 Drivers side was easy , Passenger side put up a bit of a fight probably because its a bit cack handed for me . Easy way is cut the old hoses first , makes it easier to remove the remains . A plastic bag under the reservoir cap stops most of the fluid coming out = handy tip 🙂 Anyhoo I haz brakes with no leaks . Once fitted i pulled the brake light fuse - jammed the pedal down with some wood and left it 10 minutes to check for leaks under pressure - result was no leaks and no loss of pressure so il take that as a win . Pedal travel is around 1 1/2 inch total - no pulling to either side , just need to bed the new shoes in more . buried the nuts etc with Lanoguard grease then cleaned and sprayed the area with normal lanoguard . Not sure what size hole is in a soft line but the old ones were around 2mm .

You need at least 10A over the cars maximum draw for decent charge capacity , theres nothing bigger in the ACR range than 55A so your correct in thinking A127 . Theres various outputs available 55A up to a modified 100A unit . A lot are Chinese but there are Italian ones made by Magneti Marelli I use genuine Denso now on my Imps , late ones of these did run ACR units and the tiny 93mm ones fit straight on , that said they are only 40A , Theres a 100mm one at 60A and a 118mm one at 90A A 70 or 90A A127 will be fine as long as you have room to fit it , they are somewhat bigger than an ACR one

I think that Sparto light is in fact an interior dash light , mine also had no seal or lens but as its inside it wont matter , great car BTW That interesting, what car is that on and is it OE fitment? I suppose it could be either. Sparto did make some really nice units over the years, all pretty cool. Indeed ‘sparto light’ has pretty much come to mean this style of cast alloy fared-in motorcycle rear light. Its not OE and its in my Singer Chamois which has woeful interior lighting , i try to use period stuff if i add anything . Yes Sparto do make some great things

This one ran hot enough to melt the solder making contact between the armature winding and commutator pads. Phil Thats very poorly , its possibly earthed out . they even catch fire if fully earthed

As said with an off round and burnt comm it wont last long , the brushes will bounce and arch out , if it wasnt burnt its easy to true the comm on a lathe , we do this daily at work , re cut the mica between the segments and its usually good to go , do a lot of 10 and 12 seg ones for wipers and fans This is a go faster one i did for my wipers , wound as 10V not 12V , Runs a fair bit faster but still cold - after all the armature has no clue what volts it is , it just reacts to what its being fed

Update Done 500 miles in it in August running in the new transaxle , got to say overall the box is great , slightly notchy from 1st to 2nd still but much better when warm . Two weeks after the box went in it figured it would only run on 3 cylinders on tickover but on 4 when revved , i suspected an induction leak or possibly a valve but seeing as i had a NOS fully built head in the loft i figured on just fitting this , old heads been on around 17 years so why not. it came bare but over the years i aquired new valves , springs , collets etc so it is in effect a completely new head Anyhoo its running better with the new head , more grunt , more torque and strangely quieter
