More Merc mayhem This time disassembly and re greasing the mono wiper . Its been running slow and sometimes refuses to operate . Absolutely no grease in there whatsoever save for the remains of some sticky goo .

And for my next repair . Drivers side ( UK ) mirror handle adjust in and out up and down handle doodab thingy . Busted clean off well before I got it. New handle aquired from ebay ( from Poland IIRC ) . Fitting its easy , getting the broken bit out is a right nightmare . Its riveted to the adjuster doofer and getting that outs a nightmare . basically file the top off , prise the busted bit off . File the bottom bit and punch the pin out . Fitting the new arm is the easy bit although you cant reuse the pin .In the end I used a pop rivet with a washer that only just fitted the rivet at the far end therefor pinning it altogether . pop rivets hold well but not solid so it all still pivoted OK . Loads of greas added . To compound the hell the top mirror mount screw had previously sheered off . couldnt get that out so sawed the stub off , drilled right through and locked in an M4 bolt. Anyhoos it all now works perfectly

From what I can gather Sportline is an option package not a model ( unless its in the US where there was a sportline run out model ) . you could have just the chassis pack , chassis pack and interior of which there were many options just on that . you could have it on 1.8 , 2.0 and even a Diesel if you were bonkers . Badges were customer specced and some had none at all( stealth mode ) , i know of at least one that had the boot badge but no wing badges Il leave the badge there , perhaps it was customer requested , perhaps an add on . Chassis pack was option 650 , interior was 950 .

Is that a Sportline badge on the bootlid? If it is, GET RID OF IT. It is making my face itch. :-) May I ask why ?? I guess you want the front wing ones removed as well

Well with the weather being utter rubbish I'm just doing small jobs . This evening ive fitted the repro dealer plate on the rear . Front going on in a few days The one that came on it was stuck on ( just ) and with . com written on it it was not quite fitting the 1991 plate . The original plate mounts were long gone so I fitted M5 Rivnuts which fitted in the holes left perfectly . Original dealer sticker still survives What came on it Newness

Boots been dry since . I did remove the boot seal and whilst its was filthy under there theres no rust .Not sure where the drains are you speak off but il certainly check them out . I did have water in the spare wheel well but that was an easy fit . One of the vents behind the boot trim had become unclipped . since fitting this properly its been dry . RE. Headlamp wash wipe ive only ascertained that the headlamp pumps blown and the check valve doesnt seal so the washer bottle drains out the N/S headlamp washer jet .il let you know how it goes .

So ive stumped up on yet another project . This time a 91 190E 2.6 ( More on the 2.6 bit later) Anyway it runs fine but as with any older car has some issues . Things to fix Both sun visor mirror / light / cover thingys are busted. Headlight washers defunct and disconnected . Heater only works on the drivers side. Spare wheel is a rusted steel mess with a tyre dated 95 . Few bits of rust here and there and many many previous owners . Let the adventure begin

The hideous job of the rear hoses has been achieved 🙂 Drivers side was easy , Passenger side put up a bit of a fight probably because its a bit cack handed for me . Easy way is cut the old hoses first , makes it easier to remove the remains . A plastic bag under the reservoir cap stops most of the fluid coming out = handy tip 🙂 Anyhoo I haz brakes with no leaks . Once fitted i pulled the brake light fuse - jammed the pedal down with some wood and left it 10 minutes to check for leaks under pressure - result was no leaks and no loss of pressure so il take that as a win . Pedal travel is around 1 1/2 inch total - no pulling to either side , just need to bed the new shoes in more . buried the nuts etc with Lanoguard grease then cleaned and sprayed the area with normal lanoguard . Not sure what size hole is in a soft line but the old ones were around 2mm .

You need at least 10A over the cars maximum draw for decent charge capacity , theres nothing bigger in the ACR range than 55A so your correct in thinking A127 . Theres various outputs available 55A up to a modified 100A unit . A lot are Chinese but there are Italian ones made by Magneti Marelli I use genuine Denso now on my Imps , late ones of these did run ACR units and the tiny 93mm ones fit straight on , that said they are only 40A , Theres a 100mm one at 60A and a 118mm one at 90A A 70 or 90A A127 will be fine as long as you have room to fit it , they are somewhat bigger than an ACR one
