Unless the handling is compromised, why change the shocks? They look rough, but unless you are underneath, you cannot see them, if they were leaking or ineffective, i can see changing them, the ones on the back of my caddy look worse, but still work perfectly, so the cash gets spent elsewhere Ttfn Glenn

Not sure that the no start should count as a loss, without it happening, you would not have met many interesting people and learned some of their stories, also you wouldn't have discovered a source of excellent pizza. Definitely an inconvenience but also an experience Ttfn Glenn

Feeling a bit like 17 again, had a ts250 suzuki back then, always yearned for another but life etc got in the way, nowadays prices are far north of what i would consider spending. While browsing marketplace, a ds185 appeared on my radar, not a ts, not a 250, and red not yellow, but the price was in my sort of range, and having the breaking strain of a kit kat Almost zero rust, needs registering and a fair bit of tlc Runs fine Ttfn Glenn

While I have zero interest in motorbikes I have to say, the standards of your (& Sons) work is first class, I'm pretty amazed too at your joint prolific work output, Thanks for the write ups, really enjoyable reading, Nigel Thank you for your support, means a lot that someone is interested in our messing about Ttfn Glenn

Has done one a few things i have played with. The castor screws up from underneath then the nut locks it into place, sometimes the thread is used to adjust the free play in the swivel of the castors Ttfn Glenn I think we may have our wires crossed here.... The screw I'm tackling is a right angles to the (vertical) shaft of the castor. Screwing it in would just tighten onto the shaft I would think but, having not yet seen the castor out of its holder, I can't say. When I first read your post I thought you meant the castor was screwed into the housing as well as having the lock-screw thing. If that was the case it would never come out as the wheel would just rotate when you tried to unscrew it (unless it was seized like mine) Yes, my mistake, looked back at your pictures, those are just grub screws,

I believe the *grub screws* you are having problems with, are bolts for the castors, you need to screw them down through the mounting not back out the top The rollers, may just be a combination of wear, on the shaft, rollers and the bore in the wheel Ttfn Glenn

There needs to be a gap in the bearings, to give space for grease and dirt, also if the rollers are tight to each other, they grind themselves away Ttfn Glenn

Yes i admit it, i have a weakness for cheap muscle bikes, and when another 1200 bandit popped up local, i couldn't resist Meet Rat bandit Loom is a mess, frame is rusty, carbs and exhast are off Spent time sorting the loom, tipped petrol down the inlets, pressed the start button, and it bellowed into life. Trying to decide what to do with it, classic katana homage, wes cooley gs1000s homage or maybe some sort of harris replica Oh the horror Ttfn Glenn

Been a bit quiet on the project front, but things are happening again My t4 failed its mot miserably so work is starting on that, but first, had a week away in Somerset, catching up with friends, delivered a spares or repairs gpz1000rx to one and a set of bodywork moulds for classic 900 ducati to another, of course this meant the van was empty. Trawling through marketplace for yet another motorcycle we don't need, up pops an overpriced 750 kawasaki zephyr, Had a look, engaged scottish haggle mode and got it for an ok price Needed lots of cleaning, carbs stripped and full service, but under the crud, itseems to have been looked after in the past Ttfn Glenn

Slightly different take on the idea, How about automating a manual box Use standard clutch for pulling away and stopping Use solenoids to control the shifts, with ignition cut to allow the gears to move Ttfn Glenn

First step should be cleaning it, hydraulics and dirt don't play well together. Check oil condition and level, Then test to see where the fault is, Since it lifts ok, the pump must be working To creep down under load, the most likely culprits will be the one way valve or the lowering valve, the other alternative is the seal on the lifting ram Make sure the lowering valve is fully closing Try to force ang dirt out ove the vaves, by taking it to maximum, then pump some more to open the presure relif valve. Next place a load on it and let it down rapidly to flush the lowering valve If it still creeps under load, then is the time to start pulling it apart Ttfn Glenn
