Hiya, thanks for the link.
I think the best (and massively cheaper) solution right now is to convert back to std manual, then recommission the power steering at a later date off the car ready to bolt back on.
I'm watching a rack and link on ebay which I will hopefully get, its the easiest solution right now to get the car back on the road with less to go wrong also!
thanks again Chris!
....Still feel I need a spoiler on the back of it lol

some photos from this weekend. apparently exhaust system needs lots of work to fit, bloody great, the steering rack is seemingmy impossible to work out or fix too. can anyone help me with steering racks! I think the one fitted is a rare but shagged powered cortina one. std fit on these cars was a manual rack so I'm quite happy to go back to manual. a manual rack should bolt on? will it, won't it?! will the column attach or would that be different too? one thing I've struggled the most with this car is identifying ford parts and getting any ford info from people about what might or might not fit the pinto engine! I thought Ford's where popular and well followed?! as soon as the racks off it he wants to be able to bolt something back on so I need to get this sorted asap, after that it's basically sat ready to mot!

it seems postimages website has had some issues and lost it's name .org now needs to be .cc never easy keeping images on forums is it! apparently we are getting dangerously close to mot time. I ordered a new exhaust system including a 421 so hopefully it all fits, upon removing the manifold this was found which was new to me. imp engines don't have core plugs lol, he explained that normally it would be wise to swap out all if doing one or two but since some are inside the bellhousing and the others he can see on inspection are well sealed he will just swap out this one. very interested to see if the exhaust system fits. also the power steering is failing and I think it's going to be a nightmare finding parts for a powered cortina rack as they're rare (by all accounts on internet) so in the interest of making time and getting it on the road a manual rack maybe fitted (which was standard fitment on all g26.... bar one lol, again apparently) chris

Can't you make the duck tail from cardboard and do a skin or grp, then skim of filler and flat? You'll have to do this near enough if you're modding a different one. The cardboard will let you tweak style until you're happy. Lancia 037s always had the best duck tail to me. goo.gl/images/WL2MB2it's starting to look that way isn't it! 😢 it's the time involved that makes me struggle with at the moment, might be something I have yo revisit and bond on at a later date...... hum..... retro rides show..... Saturday evening in the campsite.... hummm. lol

the rear end still needs a spoiler, I've struggled with this for ages. like duck tail. don't want to spend out too much as it'll probably need cutting and messing up. what to get to get to get! 🤔😯 any recommendations guys? Great progress, its really coming together...love the interior and light treatments. there is a green car on page 4 that has a spoiler that sort of folds down on the ends at a pleasant angle....I can see one of those on there....or a double from an XR4Ti jP Looks to be some sort of old rover that one (I think) Hum.... I think the struggle with mine is the sloping angle of the boot could play a factor so don't think it would fit very well, almost look like its about to fall off

Rustoleum does work when sprayed (see my Midas project) but I haven't flatted mine down yet. It's produced a nice coat and was surprisingly easy to use. I thinned mine by about 60/40 with White Spirit after a bit of investigation and test spraying. What colour are you thinking of? black or red, it was the red I did on my old mx5. again I might still go down that route as it really is gonna be a rough ready prep job.

Well that's the bodywork done to the point I told him too, front and rear bumpers, rear arches, rear lights front side and indicators seat/floor mods done He's now trying to say have it back, but I want to have it mot'd if possible so more work needed but think he wants to move it on as there's other cars for him to crack on with now. we shall see

looks like I'm out of cash again one final push should see the rear bumper on solid and mot on it so I can drive it home and get prep for paint then paint. all lights are going to point up. also seats in final fit and floor painted to make it feel cleaner less itchy and stop that pesky fibreglass rust coming through......

from his point of view he's done with the front bodywork. side repeaters gone tops of wings blended into the scuttle and number plate recess remade. next it's final fit of the front seats and check all the tunnel is done and finished after modding to allow the seats to fit in!

actual updates! front indicators and side lights changed for rounder units. since the headlights and rear lights are round it made sence to change these as the originals where rough as well

Tried that years ago on a Mazda mx5, started with the pop up light lids, gave up after just doing those little bits took days and days, many coats much cutting etc. Too slow havent got the time for that.
Worked ok though if I had the patience, rustoleum is the paint, It can be sprayed on in two coats so that might still be on the cards.

new year new update.
Cost starting to spiral, its been moved to the new location and work is meant to restart soon, but its a case of get it on the road legal and back to me as is.
Cant justify the costs of paying for a respray on this car, so Ill either refresh my own abilities on the car which I learnt while doing my green one or quite fancy saying sod it, rub it flat and see what a wrap would look like on it.
Either way in a few months it should be back with me, annoying the wife and street, looking like poo, I mean seriously I could just pick up a bulk buy of black spray cans, rattle can the curse word out of it and it wouldnt look any worse than it already does lol.

HAHA Badreps response to the legalities of cars = mic drop and walk off moment!
Great facts and enquiries show a high level of detail and concern about running something like this on the road which is the way it should be, and now he can show reason as to why hes taken the direction he has if ever needed.

this cars story has more ups and downs than a frigging hooker working none stop on a friday night!!
bug rush and worry caused by the guy who was doing the work deciding to fold up shop and go employed, luckily I was able to mutually agree if I got money over to him he would finish my car to a point where we where both happy before the dreaded 1st December deadline.
plan was engine sticking with the pinto, concentrate on body paint and mechanical for mot, great, awesome that'll do.
no updates he's been mega busy then two weeks ago update was no progress made, not stopping business but moving so swamped with all that jazz cars gonna have to move probably back to me while he sorts himself out location wise for a few months.
this left me gutted and planning to be only partially killed by the wife somehow.
great news tonight is the place is sorted and my car can stay with him but won't progress instantly while he 're sets up, fine by me for now, better it stays with him so it's there when he's ready rather than dragged around the country back and forth wasting time and effort!
also means the v8 rover is back on to being a possibility or even more interesting he says he's got some Nissan v6 engines with manual boxes which sounds interesting at 150bhp ish (manual over auto mega pleasing aswell)
I just need to get my head around it all and see what I actually what to do with this as it's took so many twists and turns!!
....coor jolly wept ho, I need a drink!

I scrapped an MX5 with no V5 that had been stripped and chopped in half. I sent the DVLA a cover letter including the region number and VIN number and essentially told them that I had dismantled and destroyed the vehicle. 8 days later I received a letter back saying that it had been recorded as scrapped and de registered. One of the rare occasions when corresponding with the DVLA was a simple pleasure. oh that's sounding promising, was it a normal car scrap yard you used? cheers

hi all years ago I purchased a car for parts use. I removed what I needed.
literally all that's left is the chassis and wishbones. no doors roof front or back!
so the cars in the way where it's stored it is in my name but I've moved three times since (the cars still at the address it was registered to) and can I hell find the v5c. it's been off the road so long I think the DVLA stopped asking if it was sorn or not.
can I get it scrapped as is without v5? if say a year down the line I find the v5 then what do I do with that lol.
I'm quite happy to leave the car where it is but I'm being forced to move it lol.
cheers!
