love the cage work! how does it pass through the hips on the bodywork? just another convex plate on the inside, 4 bolt sandwhich through the body panels, then tube carries onwards to the chassis rails ? That's the plan! Rear corners should be easy, just make a set of short tubes to link through down to the existing internal rear stay mounts. Middle will be more tricky as that's right up against the tub bulkhead. I'm thinking of trying to pass the tubes rearwards into the loadbed and pick up on the main internal hoop mounts, or I'll need to be clever and run them direct down to the chassis? Picking up on existing mounting points is the easiest option for the middle hoop, but I would like to go full chassis mount if I could?

Well - all I can say is you have good taste sir. Yes, I too am waiting for the stub axles although would prefer them in the early imperial bearing dimensions. Keep a beady eye on that Facebook page 😚 I'm hoping he'll give me a shout when all the bits I need are ready and I can spend even more money! Suprised there's still one pair of 23/24 spline shafts available. If they're still there on payday I might buy those for my other Landy too.....

In case you are interested, Bryan at Design & Development Engineering has now released the parts needed to upgrade your Series front axle to Stage 1 V8. ie uprated 24 spline halfshafts and related bits to convert to CVs: www.designdevelopmenteng.co.uk/store/Land-Rover-Stage-One-V8-c24646570Give him a ring to discuss what's involved. That cuts out all the guesswork. You mean these shafts What he hasn't completed yet are the stub axles. Those are the critical part that set the CV joint in the correct position so the shaft can float in the axle spinning true. I'm hoping he'll have the first batch ready within a few weeks with a new batch of top pins so I can make a start stripping my front axle down to build it back up with the front Truetrac locker and 110 CV joints

I'm not going parabolic springs, I've seen them permanently deformed from abuse and I plan to give it some abuse! Multileaf springs support the axles properly with the propshafts getting close to their limits on the u/j's. Splitting the spring packs and fitting new loose clamps seems to be a good all round option from experience

Yep that'll be it. It was like a 5 minute segment of the Range Rover V8 racing through the jungle like a rally stage!

I like that a lot. Traditional 88" hybrid that's been worked! I'm sure I've seen pics of it elsewhere at offroad events? Wild guess I'll say Malaysia? Cheers and Indeed. It was on the Rainforest Challenge in Malaysia. It was the event that I build the car for originally. I did several other event in the UK with it, and took it to the Ladoga trophy in Russia. Last event was Croatia trophy in 2016. But these event are now dominated by space framed buggys, and lots and lots of money spent. So my old series has been retired from the major events unfortunately. Now it will become my classic car.. Daan That'll be why it looks familiar, photobombing in the background of some of the global challenge events in the glossy mags! There was a tv series quite a few years back that had some reporting of the Rainforest Challenge and followed a bobtail Range Rover. That looked like so much fun

Interesting, who made the shafts for you? Daan This company has just had a batch of shafts made. They also supply the standard 10 spline shafts for the Stage1 V8. Design & Development EngineeringI'm never likely to own a land rover or want to own a land rover but I do like a sowen update! I like what you do so keep the updates coming they are always very interesting! Thanks! Should be another update later as I'm still tinkering away in the garage fabricating stuff....

My brother was for a short while running a 200tdi with an Eaton M45 after the stock turbo. Nothing clever, just plumbed it in the middle. At idle the rotors weren't spinning fast enough to generate meaningful boost, and I think it was geared for about 10psi tops? With the stock turbo feeding the supercharger the manifold pressures were going up to 25psi I think? It was insanely fun to drive, instant boost and power all the way to the top with the most amazing supercharger scream to drown out the diesel rattle!
Downside was it destroyed clutches and broke the gearbox from the amount of vibrations that went through the transmission. A 5 cylinder should be more balanced and avoid such issues?

I see it as stockpiling projects for the future. A double garage and single garage full, workshop and shed full too! Looking into more storage at somepoint too but been prioritising one of my projects over workspace clearing. With the lack of shows coming this year there won't be as many excuses not to start sorting the worst of it out!

I've been hoarding spares and supplies for years! When I get paid I find a few more bits to go into my stock 'just in case'.... Yeah me too, the two main problems I have are buying another one of a part I know I already have, because it’s easier and quicker than finding the one I already have, and having filled all my outbuildings with cars and parts to the point I am now working outside! There are those problems, of which I've had to relocate all of my cars and the family fleet into the yard so I've lost my clear working space. Once I've finished in the garage and since show season is as good as done I'm clearing the yard up next!

Good quality 1mm cutting discs. I like the BlueSpot brand, good value and last well. Can be bought off ebay in quantities upto a 100 if you're that serious!

That was more or less my plan, get the second one to roll then thrash it about until it sorted itself out.
I'd say it's worth getting a tap to start the thread in the servo tray where the ball screws in. On both of mine you could see the plastic on the outside whitening as I was screwing them in. Put a starter tap in (think those balljoints are M3) and went again and no issues. Enough resistance that it won't unscrew, and didn't feel like if I screwed it in all the way it would snap off!

The first one I made was a bit notchy to start with, but that's cleared fine after a little use. The second one takes some effort to make it roll, but that's still in build and I need to make a custom lengthened rear propshaft for it before that can be driven.

Nearly finished, front indicators and mirrors to do, plus not quite convinced by the front axle setup in the manual. The bars seem arl ower, and one is way too short. Should be 3 links with a panhard bar that attaches to the bottom of the servo carrier and the odd lug on the axle truss And you're weathering is amazing! I haven't really touched mine in a little while, need to carry on building the extended tray on my second C44, and I'm looking at modifying the tray that sits above the servo under the bonnet to give more space to fit the V3 electronics and maybe even the battery?
