Here you go, it's only a mild dish though. The vario's grown on me too, though I don't think I'd like a normal auto box. Besides, who can say they have a light RWD transaxle car with LSD (well, no diff technically). And it was designed by Michelotti, who designed the Triumph 2000, Dolomite etc. So no coidence there.

Been watching the forum for a while now, and love the fresh take here on classics and modification. So let me introduce myself; my name is Marnix and I'm from sunny Delft, Holland. I drive a '72 DAF 55, which I'm hoping to mod a bit further in the near future (got banded steels and a 'marathon' exhaust for now) I'm planning on keeping the variomatic though, rather like the quirkiness of it. Yep, that's me ;D!

Any Caravelle/Floride under 1108cc has the old Renault block that is also found in budget R4/R5/R6's, which is curse word. The 1108 is a Cleon engine, the same as in my DAF. More powerful Cleon versions are the 1400 out of a Volvo 340 (72bhp) the 5 Gt Turbo engine (115bhp), and the crossflow 1400 Alpine (Gordini in the UK) and Alpine turbo engine (95 and 105bhp). So yes, a Gtt engine will fit. Not sure the handling is up to it though. ;D

Nice van! In terms of the 5 TX engine: get a volvo 340 1.4 engine: infinitely cheaper, easier to find, and 72 bhp instead of 63. Just swap the water pump over and the job's a good 'un. Or just go Gordini/ 5 GTT.
