Figured the airbox would need removing, already planned that out in my head that it would, and what to do. I have no idea why, but I already knew about bolting it down evenly but cheers for reminding me Tools wise I'm fine for. I'm actually a metal worker, so whilst I can make a nice gate or section of railings I have no idea when it comes to cars but this is my learning experience as it were. Cheers for finding the part number though, much appreciated!

Well then, I have no idea how best to structure this, or if I've even put it in the right forum bit. Basically I need to start work on getting my Bluebird into some sort of decent working condition. Its been sat for a year and a half almost and it needs a bit of love really. Starting it was fine. I put a battery in it and it started straight away, however it would appear there is a fair bit of oil in places that a fair bit of oil should not be. Mainly around the block. So, help and advice on where on earth do I start? I have minimal car-poking knowledge. I can change a wheel, check oil and water and all the simple stuff but even this feels daunting because I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing. I can only hazard a guess and say that there must be some sort of seal under the rocker cover that has perished and the oil came out? Its all caked around the top of the manifold so I can't see where fresh stuff is leaking. A picture of the bay: This pic shows all the oil coming from the rocker cover (I assume) so obviously this needs sorting. I know theres a whole host of awesome and clever people on here (I've been here long enough!) who'll know straight away what needs to be done. Thanks ~ Matt

De-ionized water. To stop static building up as it runs against the plastic piping and causing computer killing shocks?

They go straight through Broken Hill and Silverton, and not one mention of Mad Max Proper epic trip though and a lot of proper bush mechanic stuff!

+1 for the bombproofness. Mines fallen apart at the join between manifold section and centre piece. Its been sat on my drive unmoved for well over a year and I reckon a fresh battery and it'll start straight up. Buy one, you'll hardly ever need to fix much on it

SOC, if you do send yours off to scrap, is there any chance you could take a few bits off? I dunno how viable it would be, I don't want to eat into your time for anything proper important. I really want to get mine back on the road but it needs muchos poking. Actually, keeping with the RR spirit, have a pic of mine when it worked:

they said it was a tripping hazard Then so is a towbar. Barker: Slightly wider tube (so external of 'zorst is same as internal of add-on) then either clamped on, or if the wall of the add-on tube allows, hole drilled and tapped to take a grubscrew.

Ah gotcha. You'd want it drilled about 10.5 for adequate clearance. I'll have a looksee what SS we've got, should have some time this week.

If I can find some stainless bar I might be able to have a go at work when no-ones around. You may want to amend your drawing regarding the bolt. M10 needs to be drilled 8.5mm to be tapped for M10, just in case anyone drilled it out 10mm and then got confused as to why the tap wasn't cutting

Bloody hell that sounds awesome!
Whats being used for the slide there? I noticed in your acoustic-kitchen table top demo you were using a shot glass, but this 'leccy one seems be played with a metal slide? What type of metal etc?

Actually larger space there than it looks in the pics. The reason for the seperate topic was because I meant to start my own 'Building things' thread ages ago, and I didn't want to clog yours up with pics as thats your thread for your guitar + diddley bow My bow got rejiggered today. New piece of wood (actually pine now instead of suspiciously weak chipboard that I had initially used for tests) I've also chiselled out a recess for the pickup. New piece of brass and more foam rubber. Recessed so a bottle will sit on top comfortabley if needed.

So, to avoid getting in Grizz' way in HIS thread, I've updated my diddley bow. I got away with some free time at work today, so a fully equipped metal workshop works wonders. Overview: Tuning keys. 45x45x5 angle. Trimmed to 45x30x5. M10 threaded rod, put in the lathe to take some thread off, flatted one side and drilled 2mm. Wingnuts welded to end and second M10 nut to lock off when desired string tension is found: T'other end, well, piece of tube cut in half, notched. Another piece of angle, I think 40x40x4. Taken down and 3.3mm holes drilled. Standard pop rivets used to hold string. Under the half tube is this: Which has a hastily cut wood block, foam rubber, piezo and brass plate. This will be updated. So thats where it stands so far.

Right well, decided to get this posted up as both a show of where I work at home, as well as a place to put things that I make instead of tagging along on others threads. Basically, given that I still live under my parents roof (despite being 24, its cheaper!) I've been able to get away with having part of the garage as a little workshop. Now, the temporary solution was this: Messy and cramped. And so a solution was formed. This: Then this: Bit of this: A smidge of that: Screw some of this here: Join the tops and bottoms of a salvaged wardrobe together and then lap to another board: Which equals this: Then take one of these and draw on it: Hit it with a sharp thing: And use it as a leg: Which leaves it like this: It still needs work, but I got distracted by a diddley bow project. Which is in the next post.

Grizz, theres an old trick for cutting glass bottles wherein you fill the bottle with oil to the level you want the cut, and then plunge a hot (yellow heat, or hotter) length of metal (I seem to remember it saying iron) into the bottle and it should cut perfectly at that level. Can't remember all the details so you might want to poke Google for proper info.
