People* don't want cash these days. I have paid a selection of tradesmen of late, not one of them wanted cash, nor would accept cash. I remember when the usual thing was that everyone wanted cash. I asked one guy if he wanted cash for the £1200 or so job he had done me and he was offended, gave me a lecture on how he is an honest business, not some tax dodging cowboy, etc. etc. Times are changing. Cash payment has a negatrive connotation and some businesses pay more bank fees on cash, and it takes them more effort to deal with. I much prefer to TBH. but we are running into a wildly off-topic topic. Plenty of ways to scam people on a cash sale and theres no paper trail then either. Not that it always helps when there is. It's the hassle of cash now. If you are not close to a bank etc you could loose a morning just going to a bank or post office, parking up, queuing behind the old folk who just go there for a chat. Fewer branches as well. Also, cash carries the old-as-time risk of someone knocking you over the head for it! (Usually mates of the person that gave you the cash in the first place!)

Hi guys, thanks for the ideas but a lot will not fit in a single garage and be able to open doors, I’m liking the rover p6 idea. Ideally looking for saloon/coupe really. I'm looking for something 80’s to 60’s really. A mate was told by an agent trying to sell him a new build house with a garage that garages are no longer built to house a car! Purely for storage, apparently...

Is that a Minor pickup? If so, how small is the car in front of it!? One of those cars that just look perfectly proportioned and "right"... Tell me it's up for sale? Tell me there's room for the dog? Tell me I can afford it!

I needed some distraction today. TBH, I was kinda expecting nickwheeler to pop around after his Sunday tasks….. Anyway, Decided after a dead bootfair, and before starting on the Canta, to take the RR for a run. Tempt fate, some would say. So I drove over to Allhallows to see if Mercdan68 was in, to ask him about what polish to use on my S10 as I want to just give the paint a bit of love, not a full “detail” or anything that extreme….. but it was all quiet there and I was not going to knock on the door. So I carried on with my drive, heading toward Rochester in the opposite direction. Eventually making it back home with no cut out or breakdown like before. Did I get lucky, or is the previous minimal issue sorting itself out. Parked up, after I got home. After this, I went to do a few small jobs on the Canta. Weekend over again. . good news on a fault free sunny Sunday drive out with many more to come Missed this update, sorry. Really pleased to see this about. What are people's reactions when you're driving? Such a great build

Forgot about spare wheel subs, but then, do R32s have a spare wheel well? IIRC the boot floor is shallow for the 4motion stuff and/or exhaust, not sure there's a well...

braaap do you have any experience of the Axton or Emphaser DSP amps? Like this... Sorry, I don't. Both are brands of swiss hifi dealer chain ACR. Axton more on the lower price scale, emphaser a bit pricier with some good test results. In 2000 I had an emphaser active subwoofer box in my trunk and it was okay. But I haven't really kept following the carhifi market and stuck to my oldschool hifi gear. I'm really not a fan of these underseat shoebox subs, they may help if You really don't have space for a good bass like in pickup cabins. But in a golf I would rather go for a good 3way speaker system plus amp. Cheers, thank you

A lot of aftermarket HUs have a HPF. Worth checking in the menus, or pulling it out and getting a model no from it. Depending on expectations, I've had good experiences with www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/car-amps-and-subs/kenwood-ksc-sw11-compact-underseat-subwoofer-656968.html?istCompanyId=b8708c57-7a02-4cf6-b2c0-dc36b54a327e&istFeedId=367c5610-f937-4c81-8609-f84582324cd6&istItemId=wrtawllrx&istBid=t&_$ja=tsid:|cid:16710940973|agid:|tid:|crid:|nw:x|rnd:16514205169383748990|dvc:m|adp:|mt:|loc:1006500&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqqep2tmr_wIVzwaLCh0AQQ4CEAQYASABEgJbxfD_BwEEven in a convertible. But then I don't listen to dance music. Always better to do a proper box, assuming space and budget isn't a problem. Depending on budget, time and experience, I'd grab a name-brand HU, the MB Quart three way for the front, their active subwoofer and a DSP Amp from Axton or Emphaser (Brexit permitting) and as much deadening as I could for the doors (at least) ensuring the holes are blocked. But that's at least £1500+, but I think it would work well. OP, give us an idea on budget. Among my car mates, some would struggle to understand spending £100 on speakers, while I've happily spent about a grand just on my head unit! (Pioneer P99rs FTW!)

Isn't the mk5 easy to sound deaden though, doesn't the whole outer skin come off?
The HU is likely better than an OEM as it probably won't have any wobbly speed related bass drop off. As said, check for EQ and HPF settings in the HU.
MB Quart do a nice mk5 upgrade for about £350. and a custom fitted active sub for the boot?
I believe the mk5 has speakers arranged in a rough approximation of the OPSODIS philosophy, and fairly big midbass drivers, so should sound good

What car and what sort of budget?

Really does depend on the system already in place
For about £100-150 you could keep everything as is and put one of those little active subwoofers in the boot or under the seat? As well as giving more bass they allow the existing speakers to sound better because they will have less bass to handle. Some are as small as a pack of printer paper.
When you say "unbranded" head unit, is it OEM or aftermarket? Even a cheapy aftermarket is usually better than a lot of OEMs.
If you do dive in and replace speakers, you can help them a lot with some Silent Coat/Dynamat/Noico sound deadening. As a minimum, cover as much of the inside of the outer door skin as possible. If possible, use it to cover the access holes in the inner door panel as well (not the speaker holes!). I found this last idea worked wonders for the system in my last MR2 Roadster

I watched a video on YouTube the other day of a guy with an RB lowered on Scimitar alloys, looked really good...
...however, I now can't find it!
Guy had a beard and long hair, IIRC? And talked about previously owning a Skyline or something? Sorry!
