Well time I introduced one of my projects, this was bought for my son who is 16 next month. Initial plans were to find a MK1 Fiesta however I did not want a full on rebuild and budget was tight so he will have to make do with a mk2 We bought this out of ebay from a guy in Bradford for £220 no tax and test but with 40k genuine miles and full history and 2 owners last for most of it's life. I liked this as it had not been bodges about with looked an honest and genuine car. I hate undoing other peoples work (bodges) Anyways less of the gassing, i'm hoping this is going to be a quick project then I can crack on with my Anglia estate thats been sat a while but thats another thread. as bought gotta love the seat covers Anyways the first job was to give it a good clean and polish and lets see what we were up against.. My lad helped in the process SO thats was last summer and it was just parked up then while I started to source parts, obtained some sills, wheel arches (inner and outer) and various suspension parts. The front bumper is quite badly bent so if anyone has one cheap let me know. My lad wanted to keep them off but i've said no (nasty dad that I am) strict instructions that it stays standard until he gets a least a years insurance on the back of him (and thats a year away) the only thing i'd like to do is get some wider steel wheels maybe off a later Festa .. He's not happy but we are limited on costs and he will be stuffed enough in insurance without adding to the plight. SO works start cleaning wheelarchs etc. and then the task with the rot, i've worked on Festas before and this is a rite sod to get rite as it's 4 layers of metal and the only way to do it right is cut it all rite back.. while i'm working on the back my lad starts on the front suspension with new dampers and springs.. watch this space more to follow when I finish downloading my pics in some sort of order.

Great save, I used to work on these when they were new, rare then as I bet we only ever sold half a dozen in the 4 years I was there. Ref the radios, we had to take the original ones out as they did not have FM and we replaced them with Philips ones. The steering was super light if I remember. I have a late eighties Lancer auto which is faultless to drive if a little bland

Cheers Mike - they would be spot on don't know if the offset would be an issue. I tried some steels off a 'g' plate Sierra and the offset was far too much I'm still after the above spares as nothing has come of the other replies. - any help getting a 16 year old excited with the build appreciated

As per title, i've started a rebuild on a 1988 Mk2 Fiesta pop which will become my sons next year for his 17th Birthday. We had a good nose round it this weekend and I need some extra parts if anyone can help. I require . A good second drivers door (or i'll take a door skin if one out there) . A good front bumper (it's for the Pop - so it's the painted metel centre section with grey plastic inserts) not bothered about end caps just the main beam. . I also need rear wheel archs / inner and outer but can get those from spurious supplier if non lying in a shed. . some wide steel wheels (or wider than the 4.5j that are standard) prefer Ford FWD fitment - 5.5 would be perfect.
I'm based in Wakefield Yorkshire - but i travel to most parts of Yorkshire with work so don't mind collecting if a reasonable distance.
Thanks for looking

I've a 2.8 special 1985 owned it since 2002, and I think it is awesome and would never sell. Like others have said it's not the fastest vehicle by modern standards but mine has been ultra reliable / starts on the button. Its not too bad on fuel but I didnt buy it as an economical motor / i'd have gone for a Golf diesel if thats what I wanted Up until this year I'd not spend any money on it although it is currently getting treated to some new bushes / inserts and the front brakes upgrading. I wanted a 280 originally like you but even back in 2002 they were fetching a premium and I couldnt justify the extra expense for full leather / green met paint and 15" allys. I say go for it, they don't have the image issue they once had and it certainly has presence on the road which many cars do not.

Inform your insurance straight away and pass his details onto them, let the insurance company do the leg work (providing your fully comp) They have 2 rules of thumb regards these types of impacts. 1) your passing a paked car - mid way passed and other driver opend door. Parked cars fault as he didn't look to see if way clear. Damage on his car will show that type of impact. Normally door is not bent fully back, it's usually just back edge of door damaged and whole door pushed forward (ie not bent back on itself) 2) you open door and other driver drives into it - as is the case here. His fault, he shouldnt have driven on with a door wide open. Impact on your car shows this as it's been bent back. In my opinion he will be found at fault.
If you let insurance company know they should have influence to obtain the footage, but you need to be quick as often the footage is only kept for a short period before wiped (5 days ??)

always liked the cavalier - I had a rare 1.6 base saloon that I bought with 19k genuine. now sold on. My mate has an x reg 1.6 GL saloon and i've never seen another locally. I might be breaking a 1.6L saloon (D reg) in the next month so let me know if you need any spares.

YOUR insurance company could write off the car, somebody else's company can't. They are not insuring your car, they are insuring another driver, so it's not their call what they will pay out against. Yes they can and yes they do. Dosn't matter who insures it if they pay out they are paying out as though the vehicle was undamaged so the vehicle becomes the insurers property whether that be yours or a TP's The only differance is some policys do not allow retention of salvage however if you are a third party you have no contract so you can insist on retaining. As for this one - if you have pictures you should be ok. Do you have a distruction notice on the car - anything from DVLA to say you've scrapped it (owned it) etc. All these will help. As someone previously mentioned you can argue that they had reasonable time to inspect. Any trouble PM me if required i'll try and assist..
