Ah it'll be well spotted, I'll mention the brand to them next I'm up there. I'll send you a goldfish if your right lol. And thanks I'm wishing time away to when this will be ready. Still a long way to go. My parts list include:
- Coilover suspension - Refurbished alloy wheels - TSR exhaust manifold - Trackslag 2.5inch exhaust system - Fully refurbished fuel injection system (k jetronic) - D/S door - Full interior in really good condition.
Phew, next step will be the underneath and plenty of welding no doubt.

Check out them shutlines: After staring at the front end since I bought it and my heart sinking everything because of how skew-wiff it was I think they've done a remarkable job in aligning the pattern wings (Sorry for the poor quality phone pictures).

Also have ordered a rear disc brake conversion, got it for a really decent price. I'm not sure whether to get GTi front brakes or go straight for the G60 ones, not sure if there is much difference(?) The stock 8V brake setup, including GTi's, have the carrier built into the wheel bearing housing and fit 239mm discs. To fit G60s you'll need to swap to 16V wheel bearing housings and hubs. You can buy mk2 16V wheel bearing housings with their added scene tax or you can buy mk2 caddy van items which are exactly the same, just loads cheaper! In fact the caddy van has 254mm vented discs which are the mk2 16V setup. It only gets expensive if you want to fit 280mm discs and require the 'G60' or early VR6 calipers. When looking for these be aware that all girling/lucas 54 calipers are not equal. The 280mm varients are wider and have dimples on the outside. Where as the 16V 254mm versions are narrower and smooth. Sorry for the mini hijack but this is really good info, currently on the lookout for a full set up for my build and wasn't aware of the variants. Bookmarked will be following this with interest. I've not seen many Pasadena blue's and have been in the mk2 'scene' a couple of years. Looks like a solid base for a conversion.

That is a bargain at £25. Get plenty pics of the underside restoration. You taking it back to bare metal underneath too? The underseal is a nightmare to get off :-( I'm sure it will be, yes it will be getting stripped back, there's that old saying 'do it once do it right' and if ive gone this far with the body work I might as well go all out. It'll hurt me wallet but Its developing quite a high pain tolerance nowadays haha.

Underside has yet to be stripped back but isn't too bad, welding here and there, panel straightening. I've bought a replacement bonnet too as the underside of the current one is pretty rotten and replacement tailgate as can be seen in pictures. So hopefully autumn 😎 Mostly rust free one dropped off today. For £25, bargain.

Pretty brutal. I'm having a mk2 golf restored and its nowhere near as bad as this. Such a shame that the po chose to cheat. I do love the shape of the mk1 jetta as well and they are really few and far between now. All the best for which ever path you choose.

Thanks for the info tigerfox ☺. Wish I knew that. I refitted the matrix not long after it was done with a mk3 one. Also removed the bias valve. I just didn't connect the Coolant hoses back up though. Mis-placed them somewhere 😶. Ah it'd be good to see your golf's tristanh do you have a thread on here? I did have some pictures sent to me today from the restorer via what'sapp, I was quite shocked when I saw them. So at some point in its poor life it'a been monza blue (original colour and reason I bought it) red, yellow, pink, black. It looks like a Jackson Pollock wannabe owned this in the past. On the upside panels are pretty straight.

Thanks guys I only found this site a few weeks ago but it's really good so thought I'd add mine to it. The next big update will be coming next week. They've been having a job getting all the layers of paint off. But when monza blue is back on and it's abf powered I'm sure it'll be worth it. The paradox that I will have to get over when it's done is I'll be quite frightened of driving it in case of getting it scratched/marked or someone crashing into me. But it definitely won't be a garage/show Queen however I fully understand now why people treat their pride and joys that way. When we have so much financial and emotional investment in our cars it is hard to not feel very anxious when they are taken out on public roads. Might just be me though haha 😂

Just read from start to finish, this my new favourite site. Brillant work and good story to boot. You've made me put a few 944's to my 'dreamer' eBay watchlist (We all have one!).

Pretty bullit proof cars, they are are the more common older car that you see on the road, along with the 190e and mk3 golf (around my way anyway) I even like the colour. Good luck with it.
