Hello lads, I know there's a few threads of these builds but i'm going to document mine anyway! Base car is a Pasadena Blue 1.6 Driver, paid £650, it's on 130k. It managed to get me home 40 miles which is all i really cared about, car has a few rust spots from what i can see so far, haven't digged too far yet. - Slight hole in spare wheel well. - Above filler cap is corroding. - Roof has dent and slightly rusting. Donor car is a MK4 Golf GTI with 02J 5 speed gear box and AGU engine code. Paid £450 for it, so not too bad. Hopefully make £200 back or so from selling it parts. But not too fussed, has most of the stuff i need. Stuff ready for order: - 100mm flanges for gearbox - GTi Driveshafts, was going to buy G60 Corrado driveshafts but can't source any and if i have problems with the GTi ones i will move onto them. - G60 gearbox mount - 02A gearbox mount bracket - G60 Corrado rear engine mount - Vibratech front engine mount - Corrado 16V rear engine bracket (struggling to source this) - Stubby Master Cylinder - MK2 Golf 1.3 Cable throttle Gradually getting the parts together and hopefully do 90% of it in one weekend, i'll have to send the looms off to be spliced together as i have no idea whatsoever how to do it. Anyways, enough of the talk heres the Pasadena Blue MK2 in question. Rust free behind the bumper, looks like it's been looked after! Behind the daily: So far i have bought: - New steering boots as they're absolutely shot - Modified pedal box for hydraulic clutch - Big front and rear bumper The wheels need sorting aswell as they're absolutely horrendous, i believe they're Lupo from looking at them. Will update it when more parts have come and conversion is underway. I don't have a date set as of yet, trying to gather as many parts. Cheers

Bookmarked! I'm a massive mk2 fan, had a few back in the day! A stock looking early silver gti with a nice 1.8t is on my list of things to do sooner rather than later, just need a decent base car to start with🤑

So i won a badgeless grill from eBay, tried to fit it today and it doesn't fit the car? It's asif it is too long so abit dissapointed with that. Also, looking at some pasadenas they came with a sticker on the back. I have sourced one but they're £19 for a sticker! Maybe see how my bank is feeling when i have ordered more stuff. Also, the pedal box is on it's way already with the correct brackets on for the hydraulic clutch!

Nice. I've a 1.6 driver with the same setup just resprayed for its second round and proper resto. 150.6 on the dyno and it's great fun in a car that light. While your on the tinworm hunt I strongly recommend taking out the taillights to check underneath and pop the windscreen out too. Mine went at each lower corner but there was nothing visible from the outside just an ever expanding pool of rainwater in the footwells

When i cleaned it the other day there was a fair bit of water getting inside so that needs investigating aswell.

The AGU is 150 as standard so after the rebuild and with the stainless remus exhaust I got 0.6bhp. Worth every penny.

Pedal box came today, seems decent enough. I have also managed to get my hands on these voomeran arches (i'm a sucker for wide arches) so i can run the big bumpers, not to everyones taste but i like to do make my cars my own. I think they're replicas aswell Also have ordered a rear disc brake conversion, got it for a really decent price. I'm not sure whether to get GTi front brakes or go straight for the G60 ones, not sure if there is much difference(?) I'm sitting here aswell thinking wtf have i got myself into, it is and i know it will continue to cost me an arm and a leg but everytime i think about driving it i know it'll be worth it!

Also have ordered a rear disc brake conversion, got it for a really decent price. I'm not sure whether to get GTi front brakes or go straight for the G60 ones, not sure if there is much difference(?) The stock 8V brake setup, including GTi's, have the carrier built into the wheel bearing housing and fit 239mm discs. To fit G60s you'll need to swap to 16V wheel bearing housings and hubs. You can buy mk2 16V wheel bearing housings with their added scene tax or you can buy mk2 caddy van items which are exactly the same, just loads cheaper! In fact the caddy van has 254mm vented discs which are the mk2 16V setup. It only gets expensive if you want to fit 280mm discs and require the 'G60' or early VR6 calipers. When looking for these be aware that all girling/lucas 54 calipers are not equal. The 280mm varients are wider and have dimples on the outside. Where as the 16V 254mm versions are narrower and smooth.

Thank you for the info on the mk2 caddys i didn't know that so will keep it in mind!! Some more updates.. managed to get a garage sorted, i live in an apartment with a secure car park but don't want it sitting there in the rain all day everyday. Having a look how wide the arches actually are.. Got big front and rear bumpers ready to go on More parts arrived. - G60 front & rear engine mounts - Corrado 16V rear engine mount bracket All labelled up and put in my parts box Then today, i found a cheap mk3 abf fuel tank and fuel pump which is 3 bar, so hopefully will be plug and play, bargain at £40! the lad even give me the fuel lines. The daily doing it's errands again! Next up is cambelt kit, g60 flywheel and clutch, mk2 gti drive shafts and the 100mm flanges then hopefully drop the engine in..

Sorry for the mini hijack but this is really good info, currently on the lookout for a full set up for my build and wasn't aware of the variants. Bookmarked will be following this with interest. I've not seen many Pasadena blue's and have been in the mk2 'scene' a couple of years. Looks like a solid base for a conversion.

Wheels sold today though which means i can potentially finish the list of parts needed for the mk2 golf! Over the last few weeks the following has been ordered. - Gearbox Mount - Gearbox Mount Bracket - 100mm flanges - GTi Driveshafts - Cambelt & Waterpump Kit - VR6 Rad - Slimline Fans - 6PK1120 Belt for aircon delete - 1.3 Throttle cable Engine getting pulled out within next few weeks to see if any welding needs doing, not long now.

So i finally have everything, engine is out of the MK2 and it's time to clean all the bay up. I don't want to invest the money and time in making this car 'mint' and resulting in me being scared to drive it how it was built but i will make it best as possible with what i have to work with, i don't have thousands saved up to be blitzing on resprays and rust repairs although there isn't a great amount of rust. I'm going to get the bay looking presentable and probably powdercoat a few bits. Any how, getting the golf out of it's lock up for its last ever drive to the garage. Disconnecting everything Out it came The bay wasn't as bad as i expected. and back outside to be towed back the lock up. I am waiting for my new hydro set up to come then it's time to flatten some of the bulk head and drill a few holes and fit it all. Once thats done it's then time to pull the 1.8T from the donor car and fit the KO3S turbo, do the cambelt and waterpump, new clutch and flywheel, aircon delete and full service then time to pop it in. In the mean time, i would like to get the front subframe powdercoated, strip any surface rust down in the bay and see if any real welding needs doing. Cheers
