I always thought the Rapier would go well with a V6 or V8 if they'd fit. Don't think I ever saw one in Custom Car or Street Machine that did though. A good looking car that really should have had a bit more grunt. The 1725 was good for the late 60s but there ain't no substitute for cubes! Does anyone know of a V8 Rapier? There is this (don't know whether it ever got finished): www.drivelife.co.nz/2021/12/project-v8-sunbeam-rapier-fastback-part-1-first-mistakes-are-made/(Links to parts 2 - 5 at the end)

The rear end of these is very reminiscent of the '67 Plymouth Barracuda: Both were on sale long before Chrysler took over the Rootes Group . . .

I thought I'd found another today but then realised it was mid - engined so doesn't fit my original remit - anyway it's gorgeous, so here it is: The Vixen GT - no, not a TVR Vixen - even though it also has Mk1 Cortina rear lights, but a one off track car built in the early sixties and rediscovered /rebuilt in more recent years: Full story can be found here: www.volmeyer.com/cars/vixen-gt/

I'm not a Porsche fan but the 912 in the first few pics looks absolutely spot on in that colour
The Triumph Estate also ticks all the boxes for me

To put this into some sort of perspective, Rootes built just over 46,000 fastback Rapiers/Alpines over 10 years which is average annual sales of 4,600. Ford produced 1.9 million Capris over 17 years, so average annual sales in the region of 112,000 Apologies if that makes me an 'anorak'

Grizz is (was) a big part of this forum (that doesn't mean he was bigger THAN this forum) and it's a lesser place without him. Would it not be appropriate to extend the proverbial 'olive branch' on this occasion ?

An iconic basic shape? All of these work, some better than others, but all are variations on a theme . . . Aston Martin DB2 Zagato bodied Aston Ferrari Maserati Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce Lancia Aurelia GT Bristol 404 AC Aceca Gilbern GT Cisitalia Pegaso Z-102 MGB/C GT Triumph GT6 No doubt there are others that I've missed.

I will have a Land Rover I can use every day by the summer. Disclaimer: It may not be the one in Readers Rides. Couldn't help but notice that you didn't say which summer . . .

Bill Carter's "G-WHIZ" and "Top Cat" custom creations - built using plane canopies and Jag V12s. Top Cat had a canopy from a Tornado I remember seeing both of these driving around Southampton, they looked pretty cool, although I thought G-whiz was the better looking one of the two. I wonder where they are now. Yes, built by a chap called Bill Carter in Southampton. These and a couple of his other creations were featured in Hot Car magazine back in the day.

Again, not actually my car (!), but this is from an old glass photographic plate that I have. Anyone like to identify the car that's been driven into the pumps?

The moral of this story is to buy a classic/retro van for reliability . . . .

Some interesting machinery. Is it true that close up, some of the work on some of these cars, welding in particular, is somewhat shoddy to say the least?
