Well, that was exciting. I've always wanted to go to SEMA, and this year I actually finally did. A variety of pics below, and the full set is here. (And huge thanks to HoTWire for advice and support when my flights and hotel got cancelled at the last minute!) Well I was pretty fine with not going this year ... until you posted this lot. Gotta love insane cantilevered suspension:

That’s gotta be a complete mind-funk. So much great stuff. You really need a week or more to get a true perspective of it all. I think akku , and I really should look at these. They seem to be popping up , especially in Colorado.

Hmm, Tesla lowrider. I find it amusing that when you've got battery power only that you'd use a big chunk of that to go up and down rather than forward. I really want it to have a traditional lowrider style interior too as the complete antithesis of the standard tesla minimalist look.

Well I was pretty fine with not going this year ... until you posted this lot. Gotta love insane cantilevered suspension: Z cars seemed to be all the rage a few years ago with b is for build and mighty car mods both doing them. I hoped them being out of the spotlight might soften prices, but this and the other above suggest i may be SOL

I hoped them being out of the spotlight might soften prices, but this and the other above suggest i may be SOL I'm afraid Z Cars are the new 911 .. or at least they are the car people buy now they can't afford a 911. Even the later 280ZX and 300ZX which have been very undesirable for ages have gone up in value recently.

Okay finally caught up with the photoset, so going to pick some stuff out. One of the things I like with bigger photosets from things like SEMA is seeing stuff that hasn't already been spread across various social media things. For example I've not seen any other photos of this: DSC_4959_edited by denialvibes, on Flickr And I'd really like to! Similarly the slightly more subtle builds can often get ignored. This is true for a lot of events to be honest, even our own when judging stuff. This however caught my eye in dbizzle 's shots DSC_5148_edited by denialvibes, on Flickr DSC_5149_edited by denialvibes, on Flickr Good to see this sort of very custom style still making an appearance in and amongst all the wide body kitted things that are kind of de riguear now days DSC_5283_edited by denialvibes, on Flickr On the flip size tasteful 90's style truck is great. Showing once again that less is more, and the subtle touches are where you can really shine and stand out DSC_5290_edited by denialvibes, on Flickr Less subtle truck business, because 2024 is going to be Year of the Minitruck DSC_4932_edited by denialvibes, on Flickr And another one DSC_4646_edited by denialvibes, on Flickr Finally, one of the things I always like about SEMA is that it can turn my head to some more modern things. A few years ago there were some great Ford Fiestas on the Ford stand, and recently these Subarus have been catching my eye. This one's flowery theme in particular is great colour and detail wise DSC_4660_edited by denialvibes, on Flickr

That Subaru just needs the 10ç in Quebec, 1KR PANT, and Statiegeldfles logos on it to complete the look.

Some interesting machinery. Is it true that close up, some of the work on some of these cars, welding in particular, is somewhat shoddy to say the least?

Crazy stuff.

Some interesting machinery. Is it true that close up, some of the work on some of these cars, welding in particular, is somewhat shoddy to say the least? No. But also yes. There are so many cars at the event that like any large car show you'll see a variety of quality. Some of the stuff that has been rushed for the deadline of the event can on occasion be a bit thrown together. Sometimes you'll see those cars get a rebuild after the event. A bunch of people seem to make the mistake in thinking the majority of SEMA cars are built by companies to put on their stands for SEMA. This isn't the case for 99% of them, they are usually customer cars that already have the right parts (or have been built with SEMA in mind with the right parts). As with a lot of things then there is a variety of quality in those cars. Given the volume of cars there the fact you can find a few slightly dodgy bits on a few of the builds is a) hardly a surprise and b) not representative of the vast majority of the stuff. Now some of those big lifted trucks do lack a driveshaft or two, but that is mainly due to being show only vehicles, or just embracing the "bluetooth driveshaft" meme.

And having been on site to help with the final parts of assembly, finishing of this truck for SEMA the one thing stuck in my mind was that the amount of filler, and cracks I saw on it when working on it, was not confidence inspiring. HOWEVER I will add, like HoTWire does say, many vehicles are built for different purposes. In the case of Boosted Bertha, it was actually a showcase for Mikes fledgling business at the time, now 8 years later, much expanded product line up and clout out there, headlining shows across the USA.. Slosh Tubz are front wheel tubs for lowered trucks. Loads of hands on hand to beat the deadline a week away. Some random pics. Mike and Bomp How low does it go? Mike and Clem sorting out placement of the wood. I never realised how very many people, teams, companies are actually involved in these builds. This truck was incredible trick. There was not a part that has not been modded, massaged, painted or polished. The headlights have been specially built for the truck too. Note the writing on the inside of the lense. And then all hell breaks loose....... Red will look awesome once fitted. . Dream to reality. It has been an incredibly challenging build for Mike Losh and the team he had assembled, with many broken promises and contracts, but he made it.

Crazy stuff. I thought that was one of Ian Roussels’ builds and then I spotted him in the background of the pic (the bald guy in the black T shirt on the left). The bloke with the black T shirt and moustache on the right of the pic is Victor - Ian’s client who gets him to build all sorts of stuff, including that car. He does some really interesting builds. His TV show is Full Custom Garage but he has a YouTube channel too. All worth a watch.
