wildrover , they are all gone already. The blue one in the back was my Streetfreak/Drag racer, it is now the one with the gray Cologne arches and belongs to a buddy of mine. forum.retro-rides.org/thread/222496/1973-capri-v8All of them were/are rust free sunbaked Arizona desert survivors. I do have some sheetmetal I'm getting rid of ( rustfree doors, hoods and decklids ), but the shipping would be expensive. Specially if it needs to go across the pond... The only Capri I still own is the white one with the Chevy V8. forum.retro-rides.org/thread/197559/1973-capri-v8 Thanks for letting me know... I am across the border in not-so-sunny-recently California so I would have hitched a trailer and headed east if you had one available!
I may be heading out to Phoenix in the next month or less - I am planning a trip to DVAP to get a windshield for my 74 Ford wagon and there is a little side trip I might be taking to collect something.... I am currently trying to talk some sense into myself and failing.
Just recently this popped up on OfferUp in San Diego - the price was up there but, it was low mileage one owner... I dragged my feet and lost out - c'est la vie

And back across the pond, Jim Rockfords Pontiac A while back we were driving home from a nice breakfast out and as we got close to home I spotted a "Rockford" Firebird - it was a perfect match. The license plate was 0853 OKG - obviously 853 OKG wasn't available from DMV. Even my missus who rarely pays any attention to cars and details knew the plate when I pointed it out to her. I have to admit I was so excited (and we were driving) that I didn't get a picture I have only ever seen that car one time before down on Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach but that was ages ago now...

Our 1962 Beetle/Bug. I repainted the wheels to VW's original color scheme and used portawalls as it was too expensive for a set of ww tyres - I had no problems seating them or driving with them

What program had the Scorpio? Completely off the TV cars topic.... but, I went to look at a Scorpio recently - a Merkur Scorpio, which is how they were branded here. Guy wanted $1,000 for it as that is what the state will pay for him to scrap it. It was too much of a project for me so, probably off to the great big freeway in the sky now

We are spending a few days there. I'd seen a lot about vehicle crime in the area. I'd not thought about the 'stuck in traffic' scenario though. We will be having a day out over the bridge (Petaluma and Bodega Bay) but the rest of the time probably won't use it, so should be safe in the hotels car park. I'd seen the 'the 101' thing, but not seen missing it out when referring to PCH. Thanks for the info. I'm really looking forward to it. No one will be upset or correct you for "the" or lack thereof - they'll just be pleased to meet and chat with someone from the UK... UK?... an UK?... the Europe... More of an observational thing on my part - you can tell long term Californians vs visitors/new arrivals based on how they reference roads and freeways.
I am sure you will be fine in SF - there are plenty of reports of smash and grabs from cars in traffic but, it's a big (ish) city and forewarned is forearmed. SF is quite congested, but not in a London kind of way. If you enjoy an Irish Coffee make sure to visit the Buena Vista while you are there - they serve over 2,000 a day and it's quite a thing to watch (and partake in). China Town is strongly recommended as is North Beach for Italian food. While in Bodega Bay go inland a little to Bodega, which is where Hitchcock filmed "the Birds". The small town of Occidental and the Union Hotel are well worth a visit and, if you enjoy the sound of your passenger snoring while you have to drive back to SF head along Westside Road just east of Guernville for some local wine tasting.
akku mentions a few unusual and interesting places to visit and stay south of the bay area - if you make it far enough south then the Madonna Inn is worth a look, it's not cheap but it is definitely different.
Now to get back onto the theme of akku 's thread... while you are there, buy an old car, drive it to the port, fly home and start a thread detailing your adventure.

Money laundering... I have seen that mentioned in several different places but... I really don't want to start an argument or take issue with anyone... however... First and foremost, I am not now, nor have I ever been a money launderer and, my understanding of the "art" is minimal at best; however, this would seem to me to be anything but money laundering or, if it is, it has been done by someone that may have less understanding of the concept than I do. My limited understanding of money laundering is that it is meant to provide a cover for illegal sources of income or, to put it another way, to provide a "reasonable" explanation for the source of one's otherwise questionable income. Usually, a cash business is used as a front - it provides a source of income without any real accountability as to how or how much money is earned. The idea is to be somewhat low key and plausible. For example, if you owned a coin operated laundromat you could funnel extra cash through the system on top of legitimate income thus "cleaning" it, in every sense of the word. The seller of the Cosworth had owned if for 14 years, so unlikely that he used it to launder his ill gotten gains unless he is extremely patient and has great foresight. Buying a car, in such a public manner and for such a high price seems to be the antithesis of money laundering - if he was under scrutiny the buyer would have to justify the funding of the purchase and not the purchase itself. So... is it a lot of money... yep. Do I understand the purchasing rationale of the insanely rich... nope. Is it money laundering... who knows, probably not though.
Edited to add; My understanding of money laundering is based purely on Breaking Bad and Ozark - other methods apply and your mileage may vary.

Hi guys, Please can anyone help out with what this jack may go to? I thought it might be for a T25 or similar but no VW stampings (or anything else for that matter other than 'SHI' or similar) on it? Any help gratefully recevied! Cheers Not sure about the markings on that but, it looks identical/very similar to the jack that was in my 1962 Beetle.

Bit late to the party on this thread. Looks like an amazing journey. I hope so, because we have just booked a trip to California in June to drive the PCH (plus other places), and are stopping in Monterey and Pismo Beach. We have also rented a Mustang Convertible. Now, I'm concerned about the bag sizes. Mine will probably be average size, but my wifes will have to accommodate her tool kit/make up.... If you are going to drive through, or spend any time in San Francisco make sure that you don't leave anything visible in the car - especially if you drive through the city with the top down. Don't leave anything in the trunk/boot when you park. San Francisco is experiencing a massive surge in vehicle related crime with thieves targeting cars stuck in traffic or parked by the side of the road - they will hit a vehicle and be gone in a matter of seconds. I am not trying to be alarmist as San Francisco is one of my favorite cities, I just wouldn't want your holiday spoiled when some advance knowledge can have you prepared.
On an unrelated (but maybe interesting???) note, here in California we don't say "the" PCH - it's just PCH. We refer to freeways by saying the 10, the 101, the 405 - on the east coast (I don't know where the change begins) they refer to freeways simply by the number and omit "the" - in California someone would give you directions by saying "take the 10 west...", east of here, and maybe the whole rest of the country, would say "take 10 west..." Anyway, too far into the weeds there - Enjoy your trip.

This video is a bit long at nearly 40 minutes but, it shows a lot of improvements that can be made to these blasting cabinets.
There are more detailed videos for these improvements.
I bought my kit from the Tacoma Company and it has made a vast improvement to the way my cabinet works. You can source a lot of these parts independently and make the upgrades yourself. I use two panes of glass - a thicker "safety" pane and, a thinner sacrificial one. I pay about $5 for the thinner panes and change them out as needed, I find them to be much better than the stick on protectors.
I love that I changed from a siphon feed to gravity as I rarely ever have media flow issues and, the foot pedal helps with fatigue. I also cut down my mesh shelf so it fits lower down in the cabinet and now I can get a 15" steel wheel in there - it's still a bit of a squeeze but, it fits. With all of the suggested improvements I am now blasting at around 40 - 50 psi and getting good results.
Whatever route you choose, good luck to you and happy blasting.

Nice work! This is just one of many companies that makes these but, seems fairly reasonable - don't know if you'd qualify for free shipping though
I've had a few covers from this place and they are decent quality standing up to the California sun for several years - don't know how they would fair in Bonny Scotland

All up to personal taste, or the lack of it…. Exactly. I quite like green. I’ve been driving a green motor, and riding (or pushing) a green motorcycle for most of my adult life, but if ever there was a perfect example of “too much green”, that is it. I would much prefer this one 👇 As luck would have it - and as grizz chickened out of saw sense and took a pass on buying it , I currently own that one as well as my other wagon. I will not be keeping though as unfortunately it's more of a project than I can take on at present - I will update on it's fate soon. Besides, I found this and as I seem to have an endless appetite for acquiring sh!t that can only bring closer to a slow and painful death at the hands of my spouse I am seriously contemplating buying it
Anyway, back to Rian's dilemma - I will report back later today on what I find.
