No, not that one. That one is mine. This thread is about the Other Capri I built, as a Street Freak ( a style loosely based on the old nose high gassers, but as street cars)

It had a turbocharged 351W, the turbo was a '70s Accel draw through setup. Those were early days of aftermarket turbo setups, so it was a little crude by todays standards but it was effective... . I made my own Water/Methanol injection system. And I was dialing the whole thing in. With mixed results. This was that one time it ate 5 of its 8 pistons... But when it ran, it was pretty strong. Here it is pulling its front wheels at our local track ( run what you brung, friday night drags )

I sold it to a buddy of mine when I got the yellow Fiat 500. But he didnt want it as a Street Freak. He wanted it a a track day car. I had a spare set of Cologne fenders ( arches ), so we put those on. He wanted bumpers, so we modified parts of several sets into a set that fit the fenders. We also took the turbo off, put the bigger cam back in, different intake + carb, and headers. But the engine was pretty tired, so a better one had to be found.

Thanks to a tip from another buddy he found another 351W that was sitting in the owners backyard. It didnt give the impression of being cared for, but we thought it could be a OK builder. We put in my backyard and there it sat for a couple of years, completely unprotected. So that meant several years worth of Monsoon cloudburst ( weather can be spooky out here ), so we expected it to look like this on the inside.

We opened it up last week, and it is pretty much perfect. Not a lot of wear, and not even a trace of water damage. But its only a late model truck engine, so it will be way down on power. With a quick internet search we found a set of GT40P heads on a Explorer SUV, in a local Pull-Your-Part junkyard. ( these are a great low buck option to improve performance ) Which my buddy got, this weekend. They look like they are in nice shape too. But he broke off a couple of bolts when he pulled them, and the heads had to be drilled out for bigger size headbolts. We did that yesterday. This will be a extreme low buck build. Using as many parts we already have as we can. And only buying what we really need. Sofar, things are going really well. And he might end up with a stout engine for next to nothing... Next, his car will have to come to my place, so we can pull its engine ( a lot of parts on it will be re used ) And we;ll convert the car back from its C4 Automatic to a T5 5 speed ( which it already had, at some point ) But that will be some 3 weeks from now. We'll update this thread when we make more progress...

Morning mate,
I seem to have missed this introduction.

We put this.... Into this. The new and improved 351W & T5 5speed, into my buddy's 1973 Capri. The 351W has GT40P heads on it With a little bit of porting and port matching ( to the intake). Bigger cam, headers, double pumper Holley, etc. The T5 is rebuilt. Steel flywheel, upgraded clutch. Still a lot to do, but it should be a really fun car, when its done.

Like a Perana (if that’s how the South Africans spelled it?) Or maybe they “just” used a 302?
Best, John
