Can you buy replacement sections even if cut from another vehicle? If man built it then man can rebuild it.Do you have any pictures? ^^^^^^ This 100%
All of us have arrived at this point at one time or another. Throw a cover over it, take a break, enjoy yourself and come back to this when the time is right - that might be a week, a month, a year or longer. You have done some really incredible work to date, it would be a shame if you couldn't carry on. I know if I had your skills and, more importantly, your youth I would give it a bit more
That being said, it's your project and your decision. I greatly admire the effort you have put into this to date.

You bought another rover? Although i partially hopw you've bought a straight piped lexus or a mad tvr or something! Good guesses mate, but... no.
To clarify, it's not an American V8, it is from the 70s (as that appears to be my happy place), and, it's not from the land of the rising sun...
Oh yeah... and whatever happens, I cannot say what I paid for it for fear of criminal prosecution for theft

All the way to reno? How are the county squires going? The word glacial springs to mind when thinking of the Country Squires... The '74 is my choice of the two cars and will be staying with me, there are a few things to be done, but work has stalled for various reasons. My mate, Sal has had a change of familial circumstances and he is no longer living locally - this means that he is not around much on the weekends. As the cars are parked in his work yard it means that access for working (and hanging out) is reduced somewhat. We will get back on track eventually, but for now nothing has happened.
The '73 as I think I mentioned in a previous post is more of a project that I want to take on right now. However, I believe that I have found a new home for it - again, it's a timing thing and so nothing much has happened. A big thanks to akku for helping locate someone equally demented as me to take in the wagon. As soon as I stop dragging my ar$e I will update on it's final destination Absolutely mega wagons! Love them! I hope the GMaps image above is the precursor to going to get a third... Hello, my name is Alan and I have a problem, I am addicted to 1970's full size wagons...
Somehow, I feel that as a support group this is not the place that would help me refrain from indulging in my addiction passion...
I hate to disappoint you, but... I have temporarily sworn off full size American V8s... although, I can't say that I have sworn off V8s altogether... /mysterious/
I will leave you with some information about my foray into deepest, darkest Nevada, and I will update soon...
Miles driven: 1,012.4 Hours on the road: 17 hrs 4 minutes (not including wee stops, loading, fuel and other essential breaks) Average speed: 59 mph Average fuel economy (US gals): 20.3 mpg Regrets: I have had a few, but too few to mention.... Highest point in journey: 8,000 + ft
No. of times my wife has murdered me in my sleep: 0 (at this point in time)
So, in sum, yes I have bought another car from far, far away. It is not American, nor is it full size, but, it is a V8...

Great work Norman - I understand how those little setbacks can really throw you off but, you're doing fantastic work. If it's past the window for a chemical bond I usually scuff the primer/paint with a red scotch-brite, tedious work, but it needs to be done to get the best possible finish. Looking forward to your progress. Alan.

I’m finally retired and am ready to start working on my 2 1964 Cortez’s. Does anyone know of a good mechanic in Southern CA? I can do some of the lightweight work myself, but not all of it. katlopp - welcome to the forum - why not start a thread about your two Cortez's, I am sure that there would be plenty of interest as there are more than a few fans of old RVs on here.
You don't say where in Southern California you need a mechanic - as it happens I was driving through luscious downtown Garden Grove today and came across a place that has a load of old trucks and a few old school RV's parked outside - although I can't say if they're any good as I have never used them, but finding someone to work on these old crates is part of the challenge.

Knowing that Porsche parts are really a little out of my league, I started to look for something Iconic, with lots of spares and options and parts more pocket money of an engineer and not Elon Musk. So I ended up with this. I see you've slightly drifted from the parts for pocket money ethos.... Still, you only live once and it was good while it lasted I am sure your missus will see the rationale in your air miles argument... How long do we leave it from the date of your last post before we send the cops out for a welfare check?

Norman great to see you back at it mate. I can certainly empathize with you about losing interest (temporarily) in a project. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

I understand budgetary constraints, I'm sure everyone else does too, but, to echo what has already been said, you should buy the best welder that you can afford rather than getting a budget option because it appears "affordable" - it isn't.
In the long run, a poorly made welder will struggle to do what you want and will end up being completely frustrating; worse, it will probably make whatever you are trying to do much harder than it needs to be.
Perhaps see if you can find a decent middle of the road welder being sold by someone that is upgrading.
Whatever choice you end up making, good luck with your welding.

I am only posting to say that I know exactly where this is!
Your first photo shows the flats above the shops that I lived in as a child - oh so many years ago... imagine my surprise - 40 years, a half a world away and I still instantly recognized the location.
Sorry for the thread drift, it just took me by surprise.
Good luck with the sale and say hello to the newsagents for me.

LRO statementIt seems it's no longer financially viable to keep running the magazine. That's such a shame, but indicative of the times I guess. I want to say that's a shock but, I suppose it's no surprise really what with the competition from the internet.
I knew Neil, the editor, when I lived in London back in the mists of time - I can't imagine anyone more perfect for the job of editor as a Land Rover magazine, he still has the same IIA that he had back then, whereas my old III (KJK 491K) is long gone and, he literally ate, slept and breathed Land Rovers. There were many early frosty morning convoys across the Home Counties to various green lanes and AWDC events - I hope he'll find something as fulfilling for his next job.
It really is a shame.

And the Imperial system is so logical. I'm fortunate inasmuch as being the right age to be comfortable with both systems having started school at a time when we had both inches and centimetres on the rulers. The senior engineer at work often comes to me for assistance when he has to work with historic drawings dimensioned in Imperial units. My youngest can think in Imperial units if required but I'm fairly sure that puts him in a very small minority of his generation. When I was going to school they were sort of teaching us both and, as a result I kind of know my way around both systems but, it still takes some thought.

Really enjoying the history lessons here Dez. I had been under the impression that the potato famine was largely confined to Ireland. Never thought about it having been a thing in Scotland too. It was a properly major thing at the time though with major government involvement to prevent it become a national disaster Maybe in Scotland, elsewhere... not so much government intervention across the sea, more laissez faire...
But back to your tale of the cottage/house/dwelling...

disasterbus that makes more sense... I was wondering how a 19 year old had bought a 2 year old Capri. Here's one we found in a scrap yard a few years ago. No rust to be seen anywhere, but as these are not well known here this is where they end up.
