Ah, money... why is it the cars always appear at what seems to be a good price when you're skint?
Don't know what a good price would be for a W108 now; perhaps check out eBay or the ads in Classic & Sportscar for what one would cost here then add the shipping from Cape Town plus duties this end and compare?
Many years ago my father in law had a beautiful low mileage W126 280SE that I could have had at a very good price (resplendent in metallic bronze with biscuit leather interior) but it was a choice between that or double glazing for the house - the house won. :-(

If you can get a good one at the right price I'd go for it!

The interesting question is can you change the tax class back to PLG. In theory yes but I don't know if it's ever been tried. DVLA say no - see Kapri's post 25/09 on page 2.

Just because the ace say it doesn't mean it's true. Dez, it's not ACE saying it, it's the DVLA saying it. Don't believe me? No problem, just ask Kapri, he' only had 40 years of experience dealing with them so what does he know? :-)

I've got a few historic registered cars, shall I chuck a v5c in for change of tax class, see what happens?? It'll just get sent back with a no can do note, or it'll be lost in the post! ACE has a letter on file from the DVLA confirming that historic to PLG change was not possible. Cheers, Rich.

Not wishing to be a harbinger of doom but I see no mention of any way to avoid a mileage limit nor anyway to pay for road tax for a historic used daily. REgister it as plg and pay the tax? Not possible Kev, the DVLA slammed the door on that a long time ago. Historic or BIVA are currently the only options.

The cut-outs in the roof don't automatically make it a gull-wing door. The Ford GT40 has very similar lines in the roof and its doors open conventionally. Wouldn't be surprised if the engine was laid over under the bonnet, maybe Coventry Climax powered.

Ratchart is right, if it's been modified in the states and you import it you're straight into BIVA territory which means a full strip down and rebuild with photos to prove, so when you take it for BIVA they can see you built it.

Change the rims to some black steels. If I were any good at Photoshop I'd have a go. Easy to do too as the Jag has the same PCD as Chevys and it should be easy to get 17-inch or 18-inch steels to fit - then just adapt some 60s Jag hubcaps and there you go!

Well, eventually got fed up and re-registered on the site, so I'm RichGray on R&R now - see how long this lasts!

I changed my password on the 17th as per AG's instructions, used the site around lunchtime and now the site doesn't recognise the password that I have been using for the past 5 days. Can't ask for a new password as the mail account they have logged for me is not sending or receiving mail (but both the wife's accounts do!?).
Getting a little peeved with AG now!

Austin A40 pickup not Morris Oxford - agree with the Scimitar base though.
Edit to add - body has been widened.

Personally I can't see that it's any more than what looks like a 1-series with a body-kit that has no resemblance to a 2002. Concept, yes; homage, no. Not a BMW man but I'd much rather have a 2002 anyday...

Going Cafe Racer style on my Standard 10. Haven't updated the build thread on here for ages, but have a pic of one of the front wings. Going for an Alfa style backslash on the front wings, bonnet straps and period Marchal spots. Like this, only with a bit more added neatness. Looking forward to seeing this one - have a very soft spot for Standard 10s, still miss mine after selling it in the 1980s (had all Spitfire running gear).

Bleddy hell - Wantmeter just went off the scale! Agree with 79cord but I'd still kick everything else off the driveway for that.
