The 1.4 petrol Lupo I have has a 1.0 gearbox in it and it is hopelessly short (needs another gear) but nippy.
The 1.4 sport box will be worth money repaired or else sell it on for someone else to repair it, don't just bin it.

Should have fixed the sport, 1.0s are common, 1.4 sport are rare.
Anyhoo, I love my Lupos. I have a 99 T plate 1.4 (non sport) awaiting a 20V when one turns up worth pursuing.

I used some Starchem Synstrip on mine and it did reasonably well, but not great. I can't be sure whether mine were powder-coated before, though. How did you apply that? Did it evaporate quickly? Cheers

Well if that is SOP for this type of stripper they should just state that on the description and instructions, not "brush on and leave for 10-15 minutes and then wash off with water" when that is impossible to do with it. I mean it would save them a lot of grief surely...
Live and learn i guess.

1.4 sport has disk rear beam already, you can get whiteline arb kit for it as well. Rear disk is not required and is mostly cosmetic unless you intend track use. It also has 256mm disk same as the TDI. (GTI is 5mm thicker). They both take 280mm G60 stuff, though bigger will go on with a lot more difficulty. All the other Lupo will need hubs etc from Sport / TDI / GTI to make the brake upgrade path available. 1.4 Sport are also pretty rare now but don't have the value tax of the GTI and they turn up spares or repairs with knackered gearbox and usually very cheap. 1.4 Sport 100bhp has centre exit exhaust and rear disk brakes for easy ID purposes.
They are fantastic little cars that put a smile on your face. I prefer the TDI though its the best of the bunch all round.

www.clublupo.co.ukGTI are getting rare, find a sheddy one to cut about or just use a 1.4 sport or others instead, yes the GTI looks nicer but you pay thru the nose for one and will devalue it these days by cutting it about. TFSI is miles harder to do than 1.8T which has been done plenty (4 wires on AGU etc so choose engine code wisely to make the job a lot easier).

So plan C is now looking the most likely as having talked to a couple of repair places they all caution strongly against putting fire damaged cars back on the road especially if the roof has buckled. Makes sense if not happy. Next stage will also depend on what sort of price the insurers put on salvage for parts. Any ideas on how they might work that out? Mine was 9% of the payout value.

The bore would be heavily scored up and the piston will be seized in there if that is what came to a stop, from the pic of the bore at that angle that doesnt look the case, but you wont know until you try and remove it. As it has mullered itself it is difficult to say what happened when, but tightening of the engine is a good sign it is seizing in the bores although not always. The piston has rotated in the bore in its final moments at any rate.
Your head cant be much good on that piston with all that metal flying about can it? Unless the piston stopped there. Any smoke while this was all happening? Fuel wash from duff injector maybe?

They must have hundreds of accounts on standby, when one gets taken off they just upload the next one. I'd be interested to know how they get access so it can be avoided.

I have some 600mm deep shelves about 8 foot long made out of old mdf shower backing stuff, battan along the walls, along the front, the ends and the middle with an angled support leg in the middle to the back wall, the mdf screwed down to them so it is in tension when loaded, varnish the exposed bits and it has been up there for 6 years with lots of tools and car bits and 25l drums of thinners etc, no problem.

Body arches look like early model, later ones should go to the front of the rear door i think.

I got my car as Cat B and it seemed to hinge on where i lived and the google street view showing i had an enclosed yard to put it as they didnt want sharp edges etc being an issue with the public. I'm not registered as anything.
My car had been dragged off the accident scene to storage and suffered more damage there from very careless handling because they just assumed it was scrap and didnt care i guess, so no not advisable to let it out of your sight, but it was delivered back to me next day FOC.

Anything to hand that is free and thick, mdf stuff just varnish the cut exposed bits to stop it going damp. I'd probably use old decking boards at the moment as I have a load of it here doing nothing.

Add some engine oil for lubrication as kero is lacking in that department (or veg oil mixed in), there is a performance hit of guessing around 7% (i forget exactly what but it is noticeable) so you end up mixing 50/50 with diesel to minimise both issues. Legal? No.

How new is the VW? You might find 3rd party lead (£10) and VCDS lite will do pretty much all you need and you can either pay the reg fee to unlock all of it or find early version of it for free via internet search.
Plenty of how to and guides for making the most of it as well, essential to have tbh if you own older VAG stuff.
