More amazing work, Jim. The attention to detail on display here is something to behold.
Can't wait to see it all come together.
Ref the fuel filler, I had to change mine and did so via a chap called Ade over on the Rover 800 FB group. It was an eye-watering £170, but it's a great bit of kit.

Someone please save this. If I still had my unit, I'd have it back in a heartbeat. I put so much work into it, I brought it back up to near mint condition. I fully serviced it, recommissioned the brakes, cleaned the engine bay, full top to bottom service, new steering boots. When it passed its MOT the only advisories were the old tyres. I drove beautifully. I miss it. It was such a fun, cheeky little car. Chris

Those MPR boys do damn fine work. Had my Vitesse alloys done by them and the job was flawless.
Loving the 420. It's so nice to see someone putting this much effort into the old girl.

Bargain of the century that. Watch how in a few years time when even the worst examples of W124s will be north of £5k. That'd be nice! Fingers crossed. Chris

Thanks chaps. Got more in the pipeline, and not all old '50s stuff. We'll throw our spanners at anything.
And also, Richard is a delight to work with, but only if you meet his rider of 3,500 pickled eggs. Diva.

Not a lot has happened with the Zephyr, as I have been focusing my efforts on getting this out of the workshop... Still, it's nearly ready for an MOT now, so the Zephyr can hopefully go in at the end of the month and work can begin. While the car has been waiting, I have been collecting parts. Got a load of bigger, 15-inch steel wheels for it, including the old ones from my Dad's Thunderbird, which is pretty cool. I also have a new bootlid and new bonnet for it, as the ones on the car are scrap. Oh, and I made a little video about it, too... Chris

Ah yes, what fun. You get a lot of it in Rover circles, or so I'm coming to learn. A case in point would be the wrap I've done on the interior wood. Not that I need to defend it, but the wood was chipped and damaged anyway. Plus, I vehemently hate wood in '90s cars. So I wrapped it with textured faux carbon fibre. And I absolutely love it. The Rover 800 owners group on FB has been good, they're largely picking up what I'm putting down. However, it's the occasional comment about not liking it that makes me laugh. They post with such fury and passion, as if I'd sneaked into their garage and done it to their car. People are weird. I can get behind someone not liking something, that's, like, your opinion man, but it's the seeming need to turn it onto them personally. That's what confuses me. As I see it, and as others have echoed, your ride, your way. Do what makes you happy. I know I am, and I couldn't be happier. Chris

On a serious note, although household wiring is rated for 240 volts the high current in automotive 12 volt systems have often melted household insulation & started fires. It'll be coming out as soon as work starts on the old beast. It makes my eye twitch just looking at it. Chris

Mine will never, ever be this nice. I have the enthusiasm but alas, not the skill.
That said, your work is a huge influence on me and my desire to get my 800 back on the road, so thank you, and keep on going!

The Zephyr is home. Well, I say home. It's at my unit. It is now my car. And oh my god, what have I let myself in for? The poor old girl is, for lack of a better word, a wreck. There she goes, being winched up to the recovery truck, because after sitting for eighteen months it did not want to start. Well, that's not fair, it did want to start. We pored a bit of fuel down the carb and it fired right up, actually. It's the fuel pump that's not playing ball. I'm of the opinion the diaphragm in the pump is shot. Fuel is getting to the pump, but from there it's not getting to the carb, even if you prime it manually. So, it doesn't run. A pump rebuild kit is on order. That'll be something to tackle next week. In the meantime, look at it. Just LOOK. Eesh. It's not great. Though it might shock you if say it's not as bad as I was expecting. At least on face value. I suspect it'll get worse once I get into it. It's also brimming with 'old man' bodges. Some of which are truly horrific. It now starts on a toggle switch, though you have to remember which one, as there are about 34,000 random switches grafted into the dash. Lights? Nuclear launch? Heater? God knows what does what. I'll look into that next week. The crowing bodge is this... ...and before you ask. Yes, it works... ...quite why there is a voltmeter wired up to a house plug, which in turn is wired up to the car is anyone's guess. I've never seen anything so odd. It will not, needless to say, be staying. Nuh uh. So there you go. It's mine, it's home. I won't be doing much to it other than getting it running. I need to finish my 800 Vitesse Sport first, then the big 6 can come into the unit and the work can really begin. Chris

Quick update, nothing too exciting. The 'deal' has been slow going to say the least, but give the constraints involved, it's fine. Spoke to the owner's wife yesterday and worked out the final details. So it looks like it'll be down with me at my unit come the start of April. Then I can start taking it apart and discovering the horror that lies beneath. Fun. In the meantime, here's a killer one car of Classic Ford. Chris

Ha ha, I'm sure I'll cope.
TBH I kind of wish I went down that route, it looks so clean and uncluttered. Good work!

Glad you made it home safely.
It was painful having to sell it - I love that little thing. However, I knew it was in good hands as soon as you saw it, so I'm glad I did.
Can't wait to see what you do with it.
