Hi folks i recently bought a cheap 206 that came with a misfire. To cut a long story short i had it on the diagnostics and it came back with permanent misfire on number 4 cylinder. So far iv changed the plugs, no change, tested wiring to injectors, all fine, fitted new coil pack, misfire still there, so fitted new injector and now the dam thing wont start! It turns over but doesnt sound like its going to start. Turned it over enough to make sure fuel rail was full but still no go. Decided to charge battery overnight and try again. Started straight up but died after 3-4 seconds and now its back to just turning over and not starting. Iv had it apart and back together 3 times now and cant find and problems. Help! any ideas guys? Cheers steve.

Yes fuse is back in and pump must be working or the fuel wouldn't have been peeing out.

Hi again gang, right new injector turned up for the 206 the morn so i watched a video on you tube on how to fit it then had a bash. The video said to depressurise the fuel rail by taking out the fuel pump fuse then run the car till it died. I followed the instructions then striped out the fuel rail and changed the injector. Put it all back together turned her over took a while for fuel to come through then was trying to start. Look under the bonnet and saw that the injector id just changed was pi$$ing fuel! So out the whole lot came again and removed the new injector and found the o ring was miss shaped and had a flat spot on it, so i swapped it for the one off the old injector refitted the whole lot and tried again. This time it was peeing fuel at the other end of the injector! out it all came again and it was the same problem, dodgy o ring, so again i swapped it for the old one and put it all back together again. I should point out that buy this point id lost quite a lot of fuel from the fuel rail, enough to fill my socket set box as it turns out! Now when i try to start the car its just turns over and over but doesn't sound like its going to start. Iv looked over everything and iv not missed any pipes or wires so any idea what the problem is? Iv given up for the day and stuck the battery on charge. Could it be that the fuel rail is just going to take ages to fill after me spilling most of the fuel? Any ideas or comments please? Cheers steve.

Well i couldn't be bothered messing about swapping injectors about after the info that tonytantrum gave above, so iv just ordered a new injector which should arrive midweek. I really hope this sorts the problem so i can concentrate on the 205. Cheers steve.

tonytantrum Thanks mate thats great info. I did notice that number four spark plug was rusty in places, so its probably exactly that. I tested the wiring loom last week, all four injectors were getting the correct pulse so il check out the injector terminals before i do anything else. Cheers mate.steve.

greencarfritz Thanks for the comments mate. Spoke to my brother again last night and he has agreed to do the welding for me. I do want to learn and now i have a welder i will take the time to do so but in the mean time I'd rather my bro did a decent job on it than me not doing if you get me? New coil pack arrived yesterday and after fitting it the car still drives the same, misfiring! BUM! The only thing it can be now is the injector itself, so the plan is to swap two injectors around and see if the misfire moves with the injector. Also i only discovered yesterday that peugeot in their wisdom seem to be the only car maker that count there cylinders in reverse order,as in number one cylinder is at the gearbox end not the timing belt end! This would explain why number one spark plug looked so fouled up and number four looked bang on! Cos it wasnt number sodding one it was number four! Will hopefully swap the injectors around today and get it back on the diagnostics the morn to find out if my plan is right or not. Something else i don't think iv mentioned is that when i bought a new subframe for the 205 i upgraded to gti stuff. Id already got gti struts with the mounting point for the drop links to bolt to so only needed the subframe anti roll bar and wishbones. Iv cleaned it all up and its hanging up in the shed painted and ready to bolt on once the welding is done. Thanks for looking Steve.

s1105117 Thanks for your comments mate. I'm hoping the coil pack turns up today and that the 206 will be sorted ( still needs a cv joint on d/s but its not desperate ). So on tuesday night my bro came round and we had a play with my welder. I had no idea my bro was so good at it and that I would be so bad lol! To be fair i just need lots of practice and patience and I'm not good at that! but think i might have talked my bro to do it for me lol! So hopefully there will be some 205 updates coming your way soon. Have a random pic of the smurf peeping in the window asking to be loved! Thanks for looking Steve.

Hey gang, So the diagnostics told me it had a permanent misfire on cylinder number four. Went home tested the wiring going to the injector and the pulse was correct, then tested resistance on the injector and it was also fine, so that pointed to the coil pack. I ordered a used coil pack waited the best part of a week for it to arrive only to find out the misfire was now worse! Back on the diagnostics and it says misfire on all four cylinders! Contacted the seller got a refund and i now have a brand new one on its way to me. This will hopefully solve the problem so i can get on with the 205. I've got my brother coming round tonight to teach me how to weld, wish me luck lol. Cheers steve.

So 206 now on the road but running like a bag a $hite! When i bought the car it had holes in the cat and the exhaust and was misfiring a wee bit, the eml light was also on. Now i assumed the eml was down to the cat leaking , but with the new cat and exhaust fitted its still doing it. Now this car may be one owner from new, but you will notice the word " careful " is missing from that statement! I think the bloke must have bought it new and that's the last money he spent on it. When i changed the oil the old oil came out like thick black tar and thats was with a bottle of engine flush added. The old paper filter was non existent, just a load of paper sludge at the bottom of the filter housing. With the oil and filter changed i fired her up for 5-10 mins then let her sit a while before checking oil level. The oil was as black as tar again in just ten mins so i ended up dropping that lot too and filling her up again with fresh oil. Think i'll run her a month then do another engine flush and oil and filter change. So back to the misfire... most of the forums say its probably spark plugs or coil pack. My daughter is picking up a set of plugs from ecp in inverness today for me so i'll try them first as they only cost £7, and if the oil is anything to go by, they are properly the original plugs from 2003. If the plugs don't cure the problem i'll get it hooked up to a diagnostics reader before spending any more money i think. As for hard slam and wheels, id love to but that's not what this car is about, its about getting me from a to b and hopefully making a couple of quid at the end of it so i'm keeping it standard so it will hopefully sell easier. Plus i want to get the 205 done over the summer so don't want to be spending much more time on the 206. I would take some pics but i decided to start decorating my living room yesterday and have no idea where my camera is lol. Thanks for reading, steve.

Ha ha that's the thing mate they are not meant to be projects! They are supposed to be my transport lol I have a 205 diesel that's failed its test on a wee bit welding and i want to learn to weld ( if you like old cars you need to be able to weld or have very deep pockets! ) so bought a welder, and a pug 206 sw to keep me running about. The 206 is a one owner car with 33000 miles bought for £100 with a seized rear beam and a knackered exhaust mot ed till nov. I'm now about £344 in to it (inc the purchase price of car ) which i still think is cheap for what i have got. I'm hoping the exhaust arrives tomorrow ( it should have been here on friday ) then it should be back on the road and i can start on the 205. Click on the link at bottom of my post for full details. Cheers steve.

Right so the new car... Had to be cheap had to have 4+ months mot, didn't mind spending a few hundred getting it in tip top condition. On to gumtree and found a peugeot 206 sw 1.4 petrol, 2003, one owner from new and only 33000 miles on it. It had got a completely seized rear beam and a blowing exhaust but other that that seemed ok.Haggling started at £140 i drove it home for £100! It now looks like this... That's the rear beam rebuilt with new bearing and all given a coat of paint and a few new brake pipes. The plan with this car is to run it wile i fix the 205 then re mot (end of oct ) and sell on. Iv seem these on gumtree with 100k + going for £1500 so I'm hoping to come out of this on top. So its taken me longer to get sorted than id have liked but as you do you keep finding more and more wrong, and with remoting it in mind it made sense to do the work now.So far its had new strut top mounts and bearings both sides a second hand cat 2x drop links, oil and filter changes, a new bush on the rear beam mount, a rear wheel bearing and an exhaust centre section. The exhaust is the last piece of the puzzle, was meant to be here yesterday, so i'm hoping it will turn up monday. So thus far the car and all the parts have come to £344 which seems a bargain to me for a one owner from new 33k car, what do you think? The only thing letting the car down now is a small dent on p/s/f wing... I'm hoping to find one the right colour over the next few months and swap it over and a small amount of rust at the bottom of the tailgate... Also what looks like dog paw scratches on the d/s rear door, but I'm sure they will polish out.... So all being well i should have her back on the road as soon as the exhaust arrives. So what do you think guys? I think it was a good buy. Cheers steve.

Wow five months since i updated this! To be fair there is not much to say really other that its still sitting in my front garden looking sorry for its self. I think it was around the end of November last year that the injector pump sprang a leak, quite a big leak really. I had just split with my girlfriend of ten years, and to be honest I did what i think many of us would do and started drinking far more than i should now i didnt have someone on the other side of the room giving me the evil eye everytime i got a beer from the fridge. Lack of self regulation led me to a few months of drunkenness and not really caring too much about fixing the smurf! I eventually got round to ordering a used pump off the bay, but it took me about another two months to fit it only to find it didnt work. So then started the paypal dispute, that i eventually won and was told to send the pump back with tracking info, which i did. Then the seller lied to paypal saying he didnt recive it back even though i had proof of delivery. to cut a long story short I lost my money and the pump. Ok attempt number two saw me order another pump fitting it and eventually getting her running, great except by now it was april and the mot had ran out! In for the test she went with me being pretty confedent it would pass or only fail on small things as she had only covered about 3000 mile in the last year. Well that didn't happen she failed miserably... Welding to both rear sills, front subframe was rotten and holed, also welding the chassis where subframe bolts up. Then there were the brakes, one of the pipes burst while on the brake machine on the test, which meant it failed on all aspects of the braking tests. Few other miner things but the welding was the biggie for me as a i cant weld and b i don't have a welder. So what to do? Well I love the smurf and she has to stay but i'm on a tight budget and couldn't afford for someone to weld her up properly. When i looked under the car i realised id need to remove the fuel tank to even see what needed doing never mind weld it, so i did and the interior. At this point the car was now imobile as id also removed the front subframe. OK decision time stevie! Since the car is now imobile and i cant weld I decided to buy a welder and learn lol, but i want to do the whole floor or the car as in clean and repaint as well as the few spots of welding. By now id been carless around six months but wanted to do the smurf right not just rush it through a test to get back on the road so decided to buy a cheap car with a bit of test on it to see me through and so i could take my time on the smurf. OK i stick some pics up to stop you getting bored.... As she sits now. pics of rotten subframe... Then out came the tank.. Then with the interior out i found some top class bodgery ... Cant get the new fuel pipe through the hole? I know lets chop a great big slice or two and bend the metal out the way !!! So that's how she stands just now. Iv been working on the new car that i will reveal later as I'm short on time right now. Oh and iv been getting very distracted lately too, due to these two... They are Kerrianne my new girlfriend and her Audi TT. The TT is f ing lovely to drive and so quick compared to the smurf ( but everything is faster than the smurf! ) Right i better go for now but will update soon about the new car. Thanks for reading Steve.
