Nice project. Looks like you're making some good progress. Hopefully there aren't anymore bodges to uncover. What ere the holes in the wings underneat the indicators? did it have fog lights there?

have you really lol. No I'm not quite ready to make the jump yet. I think if I get hold of a 2.5 first then that'll be a better starting point. I'd like to have a sort of test and development engine. I've been reading this and it looks like its very possible. 7000rpm red line though! www.tiggersavage.com/overview_gl.htmThat engine in a GT6 would be mental

Cheers for the replies lads. Looks like ive got a bit of reading to do. I never really contemplated doing the head myself but all the kit needed will probably come to less than the cost of a stage 3 head and its stuff you can use again.

mdh - I hadn't even thought about doing it myself. I want to get unleaded proofed so I was thinking of exchanging it for a pre built stage 3 although this will be very expensive. I want to get an exhaust manifold sorted first though. I keep hearing about the david vizard book. Is it any good?

oh wow. Roger that I'm looking at Pipercross or ITG filters so hopefully being a bit more expensive they may be a bit more fire retardant. Either way its about time I invested in a fire extinguisher me thinks Cheers for that

Having just got this thing running nicely on the bigger carbs, I'm eyeing up SU HIF44 turbo carbs surely these engines could take a little bit of boost.......

Sad to hear that GT6 got written off. Its a lovely colour. The standard seats do move back past the rear wheel wells which I imagine after markets don't. saying that, I have to have my seat reclined a fair bit too. I was debating a B, amongst other things, when I was looking for for something old an interesting but it was the sound these things make which sold me on it. Having said that I reckon the B is a better car in most other ways. I've got a mate who's just bought a mint mk1 MGB roadster. 1 family owned from new with all the paperwork to back it up. Looking forward to having a ride in that soon! Keep the updates coming, your thread is always a good read and I like where your'e going with it

Damn, your GT6 keeps on making me want one. I've toyed with the idea so many times, but never gone for it. Don't fancy a deal on a Lambretta do you?! Thought not. Keep up the great work! Haa Do it!

And lastly a quick video of it running. Throttle response is so much better than before and having checked the plugs, 2 and 5 are identical in colour to the others now. 2 and 5 always used to run leaner than the rest but when boring out the manifold, I relived a tiny amount of material from the wall between 2+3 and 4+5. seems to have done the trick. One more reason to go out for a drive this summer anyway. Cheers Ivan

It turns out that canley classics do a rear overdrive casing so its all sort of ready to go in now. I still need to source an overdrive propshaft and speedo cable though. In the mean time these have been giving me grief again... The same old problem of them leaning out initially if you put your foot down. The first cm or so of travel on the carb piston seems completely undampened no matter how much oil is in the dashpots and i think this is what causes the problem. Then while trying to adjust the jet height (which you have to do with a hammer as there's naff all adjustment on the needle height) I distorted the jet orifice, causing the jet to stick. So i'm putting a new jet in and then they're getting sold. I've had some SU HS6's off a dolly sprint for years and never got round to fitting them. so here goes.. You can either buy an adaptor plate to fit the manifold for over £100 or rat tail the carb mounting holes and bore out the manifold to fit. I chose the latter Carbs rebuilt with fixed jets instead of waxtat and mounting holes elongated Progress shot of me boring the manifold from 1.5" to 1.75" And mounted. Basic throttle system knocked up out of aluminium and carb insulation blocks with vacuum takeoff for tuning purposes. I just need some ram pipes and filter socks now. And some p clips to hold the fuel line And all tuned up. Took about ten minutes to balance and tune them. SOOOOOOOO much better than taking the strombergs apart 50 million times and throwing fuel away every time too. And they don't lean out under initial acceleration. you can put you foot flat to the floor in top doing 30 and they just pull and pull. A lot harder than the strombergs too. And they run better on the choke due having a choke on each carb. WIN WIN WIN. why did'nt I do this years ago?? So were all back up and running and in use again now although I don't want to use it too much until I get some filters on it. Its very tempting now its so driveable though!

Yeah I'm not sure the mg rear casing is quite the same. I think its going to be quicker and easier to buy a refurbed one. I could go to all the hassle of sourcing the bits, rebuild it and still have an overdrive that doesn't work. I'll keep an eye out though. if one turns up cheap I'll have a go
