The recent Podcast retrorides.proboards.com/thread/187706/retro-rides-podcast-5-live got me thinking. All that needed to be said on the topic of 'what is...' has been said and covered it with about the minimum of vagueness that it could. It's a difficult topic that has now been put to bed. Your challenge, should you choose to accept, is to select some interesting retro fodder from each end of the gun-to-my-head timeframe of 1965-1995. Your post should include at least one example from the old end and one from the new end. Some examples to get you going. Fiats old Sport Lampra 1500 Spider Fiats new Punto (okay, so it's a '99 but the Mk1 Punto did come out in '93 so it qualifies, k?) Punto thread here: retrorides.proboards.com/thread/95794 which is courtesy of serial retro botherer, Mystery Machine Tipo Bit of a zombie thread but here you go for the above from another serial retro botherer, stealthstylz retrorides.proboards.com/thread/23122/got-stance-decisionsBrava (which only just squeaks in on production years but is certainly in the spirit of RR)

FIAT Brava Seriously ? Whoever did that to a Brava needs their skull testing. It was a wibblepoo car new and it now it will be an 'old' wibblepoo car.

But they're getting rarer (probably because they're sh@t), they're inexpensive, unloved and they've got cool back lights. That makes them just about as RR as you get!

Bonus points for the 3 and 5 door variants looking quite different from behind too, although the Brava lights are way cooler. They have gone from seeing one frequently, to every now and then, to "whoah, where did they all go?", to "I haven't seen one of those for aaaaaaages" and that's the exact time things start to become of interest to here IMO.

Tipo That's an Uno Tipos are very cool, at Woerthersee 2014 we popped across to Italy for the day and I was on a mission, determined to spot either an early pressed-tin grille Panda or a Tipo. After a good three or four hours of driving around through villages and all kinds of random out of the way places I saw neither. Most disappointing. Loads of later 4x4 Sisley Pandas though, which was nearly cool enough. And loads of Tercel 4x4s too, staple Alpine/EuroMountain fare. Tipos have Inspector Montelbano Chic (I have to say thought that I drove literally hundreds of them when they were brand new and I didn't like them at the time! )

1965 Rover coupe. 1995 Rover coupe. Personally I prefer the 1995 one. 1965 Ford Thunderbird. 1995 Ford Thunderbird. It's a much closer call for me personally this time, but the 1995 Thunderbird still just about wins.

I was just thinking the same - spooky No idea why, but have some Renaults that fit the bill - would be thrilled to see both at RRG Thinking about it, is it the case, the newer the car, the more modifed it needs to be to be interesting enough to be on RR?

Thinking about it, is it the case, the newer the car, the more modifed it needs to be to be interesting enough to be on RR? A stock early Laguna, in an interesting factory colour, lowered significantly over BBS splits or some modern OEM+ wheel would be instant RR WinFodder. Simple to acheive, basic recipe, never fails

oukie: that shape Punto came out in '93, it's still essentially a Mk1 even though that car is '97 car. It still qualifies at the new end and demonstrates that vague fuzzy bit at each end of the age gap that this thread is all about.

Daihatsus this time. These are actually a superb choice for RR because they're all obscure, unloved and disregarded as being a bit rubbish even though they can be very awesome. Old in the form of some 1000 trucks. New ones. Applause. These are fun straight out the box, I know this because I'm actually using my brother's one at the moment. Charade. Little bit older than the new end but the styling on these looks newer to my eye than the age of the car. This one also sports some rather excellent looking wheels that I didn't expect to see on a Charade. Cuore. Copen. These don't even need anything doing to them to be interesting bucking the trend of newer stuff needing more mods to be appealing. They're awesome straight out of the box. That said, I did find this one on a Singaporean used car site and wish there were better pictures of it to enjoy. The rear view is nicer than the front.
