Wow project creep indeed! How are you going to top this? Maybe find a one-off special dakar Audi 100 with a prototype 2.5l I5 that they only made one of Aparrently in South Africa, they're still building the old t3 vw bus. The engine they're using is a 2.6 litre 5 cylinder based on the old audi block. Would be interesting to get hold of one...

Here's another photo of a grey one I found -those wheels are going to take some finding if you go that route ! James I'm not intending to put the exterior back to Treser spec. The interior I will leave exactly as it is but I'm not a fan of the Treser bumpers or wheels. I've stored the bumpers in my loft where they're dry and can't suffer any uv damage. Who knows, I might put them back on at some point. At the minute I much prefer the audi d11 v8 bumpers and being a type 44 model audi they do bolt straight on so I'm on the look out for a set of those. Wheels I'm not sure on yet. But essentially anything I do will be easily reversible

And if you do find some Treser wheels, weren't they fitted with metric sized tyres? If so, might be harder to find suitable tyres than the wheels themselves!! That might be why it came on a set of the standard Ronals.

Walter Treser. That is a hell of a find. If its like the quattros he upgraded then its all top-end I think plus better exhaust and intake and that massive intercooler you've found. That is going to be an absolute road weapon when you finish it and extremely rare. Brilliant. How on earth did you hear about it? I was following a lead about some leather seats for the white avant. The bloke said he wanted £300 for the whole interior. Then he said I could have the whole car for £500. Then I found out it was a pearl white saloon so I bought it. Didn't realise it was a Treser at the time. Funny how these things come about sometimes

Well today's gone about as well as it usually does when working on old cars. Went to do the rear discs on the 100 turbo, the reason this came off the road in the first place. Turns out I ordered the wrong discs And to add insult to injury a damper is shot too The left caliper was seized so sorted and lubricated all that and re-greased the sliders. They were already painted red but looking tired so wired brushed them back and re-painted them. At least they'll be dry by the time the new discs turn up

Ooh now that is project creep on an epic scale! Remember that you could get just the body kit or the full performance upgrade from Tresser. I was epically disappointed when somebody visited us who did a bit of car dealing when I was little in a 200 Tresser to find out it was a 2wd auto with a kit. James I thought that might be the case. This one has definitely always been a Treser as the only original paint was hiding behind the bumpers and you can just tell they'd been on from new. I have no idea if the engine is upgraded at all. The extra aux gauges on the dash are VDO and look the same as treser coupe aux gauges from the pics I've been able to find so I'm confident they're original too. It is a 2.1 KG code 5 cylinder turbo, manual quattro. The head is off the car so I will have a look and see if the head has larger valves and see if I can get a number off the cam. The intercooler is all-alloy and larger than standard as well as being a double row. Boost gauge goes to 1.5 bar but as standard these went to 0.4 bar I believe. Although if that boost gauge is including atmospheric pressure it'll read 1.4 bar max boost. So that's not much of an indication. I know the digital boost readout on the dash includes atmosphere as my 100 turbo peaks at 1.9 bar and it has a 0.9 bar waste gate spring. I do know the stereo and speakers are original and it must have been top of the range in 1986. I have this ad from I think when the 4th owner bought it in 1996. It says it was a £42k car when new. If an options list exists for treser upgrades, that could help working out what exactly was upgraded on it. Either way I'll be modding it a bit anyway. It'll have the block built back up with the bits it currently has and I'll be installing an efi conversion kit from killallk-jet in Poland. That frees up a lot of space for a larger turbo on a bespoke manifold. I don't want to go mad but anything north of 300bhp would be great.

This brings me onto the one I'll be keeping. A 1986 Treser 200 quattro turbo Bought blind. It has been sitting outside in Scotland for over 20 years with a rear door that wouldn't close and the sunroof not fully closed. It wasn't very much and I've not seen a Treser before so paid my money and it turned up monday just gone. It's a bit of a mess. Both Treser bumpers are pretty damaged, the spoiler is a zender item and also damaged. So removed all that and stored it in the loft in case a future owner wants to put it back to original. The interior was filthy, full of rubbish and engine parts. Also soaking wet. I've emptied it all out, wiped it down and dried it out. I've also swapped out both the rear door catches with some replacements I had. They both now close and latch. Sunroof was manually wound closed after opening fully and clearing out the drains. Have had power on it. The seats all work, the climate control works and the dash lights up. No power to windows, sunroof, fuel computer, mirrors or windows. The engine was in the boot with the head removed. Its a KG engine code. Found 1 bent valve. Bearing shells down to copper. Intercooler has a hole in it. Will need a rebuild. Intercooler is much larger than standard. Paint is very poor and has had a crash on the front right corner at some point as the wings and bonnet are from a green coloured car. Bonnet wouldn't lower fully and found the hinges were bent. Straightened out the hinges and then found the bonnet is bent from people trying to close it on broken hinges. Offered up slam panel and found that to be bent too. Chassis legs and inner wings are straight. Will need right front wing, bonnet and slam panel. There's rust on the bootlid where the spoiler was screwed into it. It's a big job. But, try and find another pearl white Treser 200. I can't find much information on them. I have read that power on some models was upped to around 250bhp which would explain the massive intercooler. Interior is top spec 200 with half leather heated electric seats. It also has 4 auxiliary gauges, car phone and a really old school blaupunkt radio cassette. I've fitted a standard front bumper and splitter and v8 red tail lights It might look like a pile of junk to most people but I'm over the moon with it. It might be the only 200 Treser in the country. You can't get much more rare than that. There's no real rust to deal with and it is excellent underneath. I'd best sort the other two so I can start this one 😂

So, the 100 turbo. It's now had the front subframe, struts, anti roll bar stripped painted fitted with new bushes, bearings, top mounts, track rod ends and refitted. Gearbox also refitted and oil changed. Brakes rebuilt with new pistons, seals, hoses, discs & pads. Next jobs are to fot new discs & pads to the rear, replace the headlining and get the rear seat upright trimmed in some leather from a saloon seat upright that I have. That will then be ready for sale.

I reckon these are still quite cheap at the moment, the b5 model Audi S4 They're an interesting enough car with a tunable 2.7 twin turbo v6. Plenty to play around with. They do sound good as well. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203137868266

Vice all greased and reassembled. I still haven't got round to fixing the quick release and have locked the mechanism for now so that it functions without it. It needs it's own bench now.

I'm always a little envious of garages this size, I've just got a standard 70s garage in a block, no power and a good 150yds from my house. It's little more than a glorified storage shed really. I did look at getting mains power into it but the cost would have been prohibitive. I had the same situation for years. I did most of my car work on the road, open to the elements but I did have a small shed just outside the back door. A double garage was the only thing I asked for when we were looking for our own house. Having said that I've probably spent more time and money doing up the garage than I have actually working on cars

I've reface all the surfaces on the vice and got to the point of giving it a lick of paint. Land rover engine paint looked about the same colour so I ordered some of that. Like so What I got wasn't remotely the right colour. If I was actually painting a land rover engine I'd be pretty annoyed. Luckily this is just an old vice and I don't care enough to go through the hassle of getting the colour right. It looks alright even if it is an unplanned colour change Next it'll need the excess paint sanding off, greasing and reassembling

There's a few differences. Flapper has a rubber hose fuel rail whereas hotwire is metal right up to the injectors, also there's a aux airflow regulator in front of the plenum and a overrun fuel shutoff valve. I think there might be a 9th injector too. A big giveaway is if you have a air flow meter as the hotwire and flapper look quite different.
Looks to me like you have flapper anyway. No need for any lambda sensors as it's open loop efi

It's worth a check mate. If you've only replaced the dizzy cap and rotor arm it's probably something simple. Definitely possible to nudge the points while removing a stubborn rotor arm

I think that might be a flapper efi engine, not hotwire.
