Forgive my ignorance but why are coilovers better than a normal (read that as standard or shortened) springs and shocks ? I would have thought a set of proper lowered springs and uprated shocks would be just as good at a fraction of the price or am I missing something ? BTW my daily(Smart Fortwo) has lowered springs all round - I wanted standard to replace broken items but, other than OE (expensive - Mercedes !), the aftermarket items I sourced from Germany were 1.5" lower. Ride with these springs and standard shocks is far better than the original springs I believe that decent shocks and springs can be as good but for me on my sierra, coilovers are better because the lowering springs and shocks don't sit the car how I want it, they always look lower at the rear, fair enough I havnt slammed my car to the floor as low as it could go, I can adjust it how I want it and also with a decent brand of coilovers gaz in my case they are rebuildable by the manufacturer at relatively low cost, also the springs are cheap, that for me is the reason I had coilovers instead of shocks and springs, most people have them because they can wind them down to the lowest point and have mega lows, I'm boring myself now, have a picture of my car

Ignore them and post about retros and put up cool pictures of cars The obove retros any good That's more like it ;-) I don't think anyone can have a negative comment about that, I agree with the above comment about learning alot from negative comments but I think if it swayed more towards constructive criticism it would be taken better This thread is lacking more pictures

You get negativity wherever you get group's of people unfortunately as one persons idea of heaven is anothers idea of hell so someone will always disagree I know the whole idea is if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing but sometimes things slip and also things can read a way they are not intended I presume the comments you mention were surrounding your m.o.t outcome etc No not the mot thing other things I have posted certain members only comment to say curse word not anything usefull Ignore them and post about retros and put up cool pictures of cars

Darryl I have re read what I wrote and it unintentionally reads a bit arsey, I wrote it in a hurry, The front is much simpler, the coilover just replaces the macpherson strut, i know where your coming from regarding lowering springs, the only problem is got is i could never get a set that sat my sierras how I wanted them, they were always lower on the rear than they were at the front This is my saph on coilovers the rear is slightly higher than the front, when you look at it side on you can draw a straight level line in your head from the top of the front arch to the top of the rear, I think it sits pretty much perfect

I clocked those ebay ones in the other thread - I've been watching them, but didn't know if I'm taking a gamble on them being shot. Is that likely? I suppose gas could recondition them, and it'd still work out cheaper than the £600 for new ones. Gaz rebuild them for a very reasonable cost so buying them at the start bid and having all 4 rebuilt would come to less than half of what new ones cost As with fitment to the rear a strut brace triangulated to the floor/diff mount area sorts the need to tie the turrets into the sides to strengthen but you can still do that as well of you so please, the front does not require a strut brace at all

With the coilovers you remove the rear springs and the coilover shock goes in place of the standard rear shocks, so yes he will be meaning coilovers

2wd front struts have a narrower diameter where they insert to the front hub than 4wd struts so they won't fit

There was a huge thing made on the local radio and the local rag about this, I'm glad it's been found, this was taken from an area that's close to me I was getting quite worried about more stuff disappearing

Yes the cosworth 4x4 ones will fit, the only modification you may have to make is you may have to enlarge the lower shock mounting bolt hole on the rear arms, i know you have to on the non cosworth 2wd when fitting coilovers, oh and massage the inner wing on the rear passenger's side where the spring contacts, for some reason coilover springs rub on this side on sierras

That looks stunning Robinxr4i, gutted about the accident. It's the first car I've seen that's made me want to keep the stock bonnet. I'm in the process of tarting up my black xr4x4, and that's got me thinking about dropping it a bit. What suspension did you use? Cheers That one was on Gaz coilovers, which I'd recommend I've had two sets of Gaz coilovers on two different Sierras. Ride quality is excellent as is the handling. I couldn't agree more both of mine are on gaz coilovers, even with the polybushes the ride is great

A double result then! Great news to brighten everyone's day. Let's hope it goes to court and the owner gets a chance to give an impact statement about the fact that stealing classic cars isn't just nicking some old motor. They can tell the court instead it's often about nicking hundreds of hours of someone's life that were spent in knuckle-skinning dirty work, often in cold damp conditions, and painstaking parts chasing to bring an older car back up to a bloody good spec. I hope the reprobate gets the book thrown at him, but of course that's just wishful thinking! i don't think i have read anything that i agree with as much as this, these twunts don't realise how much blood sweat and tears goes into someones obsession I'm glad theyve arrested someone and i hope they get dry bummed
