Hi, Who'd have thought some tools for cutting metal would have managed to work their way out of a paper envelope?

Hi, Barbecue above the drain cover? That rather negates the 2 second rule for me.

Hi, I can think of only two circumstances where it would make a difference, One is whether you driving licence is an auto or manual, so that doesn't really apply. The second is depending on the age of the car where it could alter the amount of road tax payable because I believe some auto's are dearer.

Hi, When DVSA started applying the rules more vigorously they did use the potential weight it could be to penalise people until the Traffic commissioner stopped them and said they had to go by what the rig actually weighed. There was this copy of a circular on this posted earlier in this thread by guslopez, Colin

I passed in '99 so am in the same boat as you, when I went to pick up my mini, I did it like this.. Tow car - BMW 330ci - Gross Vehicle weight 1930kg - Actual weight - 1530kg - Towing Weight - 1700kg Trailer - Ifor Williams LM126G - Gross weight - 3500kg - Actual weight - 675kg Mini - 640kg Ebay Trailer plate for a tenner, downrate the trailer to 1560kg. Gross train weight is now 3490kg, actual weight was probably closer to 3000kg Lovely Hi, You had nothing to worry about because the key was the fact that the actual gross train weight was below 3500kgs and you weren't exceeding the towing weight of the car. The fact the trailer had a 3500kgs max weight was irrelevant in this instance because it was operating below gross. Colin

Hi, The speed camera emits regular timed pulses of radio waves at the vehicle and then measures the interval of the reflected pulses and calculates the speed it is moving towards the original source. A more common illustration of it is the way the noise of a car changes as it's coming towards you, passing and then going away again, it's not just louder but the tone changes as well.

In do remember going past a speed sign, the ones that give you a smile or sad face, and it matched pretty much with my sat nav, I take it the speed signs and cameras take the speed reading via GPS like a sat nav Hi, No they use the Doppler effect the same as police hand held and static speed cameras. With regards to the at atttandence had it not been for cuts they would of had 8 vehicles at the scene quickly, unfortunately they could only muster 2 and had to wait for bordering counties to join. Hi, That's a bit disingenuous. The Fire brigades priority is to save life not necessarily property. I imagine the emergency call was for a car fire in a multi-story car park, a public building, well ventilated with sufficient fire escape routes and likely not a lot of people present. so their protocols would probably be to send two appliances to assess, which can call for more if needed. If it had been the venue itself that would be a different matter. I'm not saying finances didn't come into it, but hindsight is 20/20. Colin

I read an article a good few years ago when a Fire Service Chief was voicing his concerns about unleaded petrol, i.e. in accidents how much more readily it combusted than the old leaded fuel. Hi, Yes and allied to the use of plastic fuel tanks which will release it sooner, at least a metal tank will contain it for longer. Colin

And what about structural damage? Do they need to tear it down completely now? Yes.

Hi, I would agree, get another known working box. The problem lies in that having stood for a while the seals are not covered in oil and they dry out and won't seal anymore, this can give all sorts of faults by bands and clutches not working properly. To be honest any autobox that has been stood should be viewed as a rebuild candidate.

I'm really sad cos I like cats I might do as well. If they lived long enough! Hi, You could try getting a new one instead of shonky secondhand ones and yes I know this goes against the RR ethos. Colin

We seem to have acquired a maid. Don't ask. Got home from work to be told that the one from two doors down has just been fired. The reason? Her employers (funnily enough, lawyers) are never there, so they don't need her. Where are we? Oh yes, four days from Christmas. Very Christian. Anyway, she poured her heart out to Madam and it looks like she's coming to work for us. Before you get all giddy, her salary was 70 quid a month, she slept on the floor in the washing area, and had to buy her own food. I've agreed we give her a two month go. Let's see what happens. If she's any good, I reckon her T&C's will need to improve! Bloody hell, it never stands still! To paraphrase the bible. - "The Lord government giveth and the Lord missus taketh away". 'twas ever thus. Colin
