A message from Stirling's son: To all of his many friends and fans around the world, who use his website for regular updates, my father would like to announce that he will be closing it down. Following his severe infections at the end of 2016 and his subsequent slow and arduous recovery, the decision has been made that, at the age of 88, the indefatigable man will finally retire, so that he and my mother can have some much deserved rest and spend more time with each other and the rest of the family. The entire and extended Moss clan thank everyone for all their love and support over the years and we wish you all a happy and prosperous 2018.

A true gentleman.
I remember listening to his "retirement" speech on Radio Le Mans.

Taking into account that he survived quite serious injuries after falling down a lift shaft at home a couple of years ago I am really surprised that he did not retire then - but what a fantastic gentleman advocate for motor sport & the motor industry in general - he has most certainly earned his retirement.

I will always remember his commentary in 2009 at Le Mans when the 45 minute race for classics was run under yellow flags because of an 'incident'.
That was Radio Le Mans too, Sir Stirling was NOT impressed, something along the lines of 'Are we supposed to be racing or is this a parade?'
So by some reverse calculation he must have been around 80 then, and STILL complaining about a lack of racing!
Have a long retirement Sir, you richly deserve it.

Having been very lucky to meet Sir Stirling a couple of years ago, I can only hope he thoroughly enjoys his retirement. He is a living legend and true gentleman, spending countless hours signing merch and having photos taken, and greeting every single person with a handshake and a smile - unlike a certain Mr Hamilton, who did the absolute minimum and disappeared...

Some like the PR stuff others don’t. If a certain Mr Hamilton wants to do ‘the minimum’ that’s up to him. The fans don’t ‘put him there’ so to speak, his driving does. It would make no difference to him, he’d still drive a car for a huge sum of dosh

I think at his age he's entitled to start taking it a bit easier. Best of luck to him.

A living legend and a gentleman in the true meaning of the word, let's hope the change of pace means he's with us for a while longer!

And treating the starry eyed kids like inconveniences just isnt on in my book.

To be fair thats not the attitude I've heard of from him, a friends son was involved in karting, and he came to watch one of the teams he was sponsoring, saw my friends son, spent quite a bit of time with him and then got 'his' team to look after the lad for the rest of the season!
Anyway I thought this thread was about Sir Stirling, the Man who managed to drive at an average speed of 100 MPH for 10 hours
