Hey guys,
I’ve had a quick search of the web and can’t seem to find any info or forums where this is discussed.
I’m looking to know if there is any way I can find out who supplied my Nova Gte when it was new ?
It’ll be going into the body shop in the new year and it’s little touches like replicas of the original dealer plates and window sticker that i really want to finish it off.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

You need the v888 form and send it with £5 to the DVLA

The history check mentioned above is probably the best way. The reg number might give clues as cars were normally registered in the area where they were sold. Mot history might help if you check where it was done. There is a slim chance Vauxhall will have some history of the car.

Mot history might help if you check where it was done. MOT history only goes back to 2007 so not quite far enough to trace a Nova

I used the info from the MOT to check the rough location of a car and forgot about how far back MOT's go. I ought to know as I used to fill them out by hand !

V888 is no longer so I’ve been told by my local P.O. The last three letters on the plate could help narrow down the area where it came from if that helps?

I've got a book somewhere that lists the reg number areas. I thought I had read about them stopping the vehicle history checks. There was a team of people doing them I think. I got to speak to one of them on the phone after having a check done and they were really helpful. No doubt whoever is in charge of things at DVLA has found another way to cut costs. Back when I worked at a Vauxhall dealers all the cars were registered at Guildford from the surrounding areas. If it was from a less populated area there might have been less dealerships to choose from.

Looks like Arnold Clark have the Vauxhall franchise in Glasgow. They were first established in 2000 so chances are they took over from the original dealer somewhere along the line. I reckon your best bet will be local knowledge from the late 80's/ early 90's.

Local newspaper archives to see what dealers were advertising?

Back then the supplying dealer would probably have been SMT or Park's Motor Group. Probably.
