It would be interesting to see if recovery will recover an mot exempt car. A mate took his mk5 golf to worthersee one year only for it to suffer engine failure in Germany somewhere. It wasn't until he phoned his breakdown service that he realised his mot had just run out, while rushing to get him and his car ready for the show he'd totally forgot it was due. They refused to recover his car because it wasn't mot'd so he had to pay someone to drive out to Germany in a recovery truck and bring it back. there is a difference between exempt and expired. as long as a car is legally on the road i cant see there being an issue. Yes there is a difference, that doesn't mean that a company has to recognise that difference if they don't want to. It would be interesting to see how break down companies deal with it in the real world rather than people giving an opinion on what "should" happen. While some might be fine with it I can also see why some might try and dodge a big expense by using it as a get out of jail free card. I guess only time will tell.

Definitely try and drive one of each first if you haven't already, that very well be the make of break of either of them for you.
I love driving minis but they can be too cramped for some people's liking. Also the constant feeling that any moment could be your last might be a little too much for some people.
I've only ever driven one beetle and I didn't like it at all. That wouldn't stop me from buying an air vw cooled project because I do really like some of them, but I have a history of owning cars that drive like poop so that's not as much of an issue for me as it might be for others.

Except we have absolutely no way of knowing if they were "sending it" or if they had good reason to speed off. Just because a bunch of mouth breathers were shouting at them doesn't mean that that is why they did what they did. Given that they pulled over with their lights flashing indicates they were already involved in something before being shouted at.

The Genesis was actually pretty well spec'd as far as these polo's went. It had rev counter clocks, gt/g40 style steering wheel, green tint windows. The seats had the same pattern on them as the scirocco gt2, so although the seats themselves are nothing special they did allow you to fit the better gt2 front seats and still have matching rears.
Mk2f polo's ain't really worth a great deal in general and it being a genesis won't really add any value to it. If you're looking at using it as an investment then you're barking up the wrong tree. If you wanna use it as a cheap way of getting into retro vw ownership then you can't really go far wrong.

That this happened was inevitable, the blame is firmly FIRMLY on the driver of the car driving like a dick. 100%, no one else. People were stood in such and such a place, the other driver blah blah, NO! Dick Driver doing 60-70mph on that road in those conditions, 100% fault, end. That would be both of them then, the gt86 pulled out trying to do skids. It was the perfect storm though, people driving like dicks and people stood to close to it all. It's bound to have a knee jerk reaction as well, that is full of curse word ideas that do nothing good for the car scene The video I've seen shows another car coming down the road towards the junction before the speeding car. It's slowing and turns off just as the GT86 is pulling out of the junction. This would of totally blocked off any view of the speeding car that the driver of the 86 might of had. Wheel spin or not, as far as he would of seen the road was clear for him to pull out.

Doovla need to remedy this! Too many chancers on eBay stating car MOT exempt when selling absolute basket cases. Don't even start me on caged up modded stuff stating MOT exempt. All grossly inflated prices coz morons think you can insure and drive away! It's also seen as an excuse for owners to neglect cars. I know of some guys that have been in the scene for a while, where there cars wouldn't pass an MOT for fairly obvious reasons (curse word brakes, hoses tied onto moving parts etc.). A friend was very happy about the mot changes because "now I don't have to sort the structural rust because it's mot exempt". Always makes me laugh when I see people trying to defend these changes by claiming that classic car owners take better care of their cars than normal car owners.

I really wish the owner of the car had slapped a v8 in it and told hybridman to go suck a donkeys hose.
I take it someone finally managed to get the bits off him? I really feel for whoever had the unfortunately job of dealing with him.

I had similar on my polo, about 60mph it would come come and go. While doing something totally unrelated under the car I noticed that one of the cv boots had become detached and lost it's grease. I repacked it and clamped it back on and the wobble has totally disappeared.

I see some of the cars he's stolen that are mentioned in that thread are also featured on his website (mini and Buick) www.wildandsons.com/builds.html It seems absolutely crazy that he's been able to get away with this for so long. I guess that selling a car for the owner but keeping the money would be seem as a 'civil matter' in the eyes of the law? In other words having to sue them rather than being able to press charges?

Please don’t hesitate to ask me any questions on here or via private message. OK, If you could replace all of the grass in the world with something else, what would it be?

It really depends on your budget. If you want "the best" you will have to pay accordingly, if you want something that will do everything you have mentioned absolutely fine but on a budget then there are cheaper options.
R-tech inverter migs are very well regarded and will probably be the way I go when I finally upgrade. That said, even tho they are very well priced it might be a little more than a hobbist would want to pay. Definitely worth a look on their site to see if they are in your budget.
If you are on a tight budget or just don't wanna spend too much on something you ain't gonna use much I'd suggest looking for a Clarke 160tm. I bought a used one about 6 years ago and for the last 5 years it's been used pretty much daily in a work environment mostly welding cars but also doing heavier work on occasion, best £200 I ever spent.
But yeah, it mostly comes down to what you are willing to spend on one more than anything.

Congratulations 👍
One of my grandads drove a scrap wagon and a Bedford cf v8 A team replica. The other apparently drove a cortina but my dad crashed that before I was born and apparently my grandad was so devastated by the premature loss of his pride and joy, that he gave up on driving.

She was never gonna take that on the chin, her car is an insurance write off.
It sounds to me like you over took a parked car that pulled out on you without indicating...

Considering the hysterics and sh*t storm created by Marina lovers when Clarkson dropped a piano on one back in the day, I am quite surprised that they haven't been all over this one. It's an early TC, December 1971, and it looks restorable, the mods can be removed and the car returned to standard and a decent TC can go for very good money nowdays. The car is a good proposition for returning to standard, surely? But that would mean them having to put their money where their mouth is rather than simply sitting behind a keyboard complaining about the actions of people who have put their money where their mouth is.

I think a lot of the negativity was aimed at the owner of green merc with the rest of your group taking a back seat in the court of public opinion. He basically became the public face of your group with his whiny social media posts about the police taking his car "because of air and wheels", after attempting to drive through multiple countries in a clearly unroadworthy police bait car 😂
As for fairness which was mentioned a couple of times in your initial post, unfortunately fairness doesn't come into it. The police have a job to do and they did it. Even taking the mods out of the equation you were breaking the law by being in a convoy. As silly a law as that seems to me, it's still the law of that country. It seems a little forward planning would of prevented this whole situation because you are far from the first people to get caught out by this law. As for the police leaving you dumped at the side of the road, that's normal in this sort of situation. The police are under no obligation to provide transportation to people who's car they've impounded. It's the same over here too.
At least you have have the knowledge to prevent you from ending up in this situation again in the future. It's just a shame it's cost you so much to gain this knowledge.
