My ae86 - currently in bits, getting a new ECU installed to replace the fried mid 90s Microtech it was running before Australian delivered ae86 shell Early bigport 4age head, 20v bottom end, hi comp pistons, extractors JDM gearbox and diff, TRD LSD AJPS front suspension, king springs rear for some squat 14x6.5 Toms Igeta with a050 rubber Basically a road car but mainly used for track stuff these days. Was considering going with a cage and proper seats but its just a bit too neat and if I was going to run a 2 seat car I would just do a clubman

Available in Australia as a basic CS/CS-X with the carby twin cam 4afc and 4afe. Also available in SX guise with the 100kw smallport version of the 4age. The normal hatch was used in group A racing, but the Seca (as the liftback was called here) made it into Supertouring, I believe with a 3sge

I am all about the light pods! I think they look great, although most people over here think extra lights are only for chasing kangaroos thru the bush...

The only car I truly regret selling was a 1990 Honda Prelude 4ws. It had cost me a bit (gearbox, clutch, threw a timing belt and ate tyres due to the 4ws) but I sold it to buy a Peugeot 206 GTi which is the most financially ruinous thing I have ever done. Absolute heap of sod!
If I had kept the Prelude I would've been about $20k AUD better off, even if it needed major work.

I can't offer any advice being Australian, but that has got to be the coolest Ferrari replica I've ever seen! Love it, everything looks "right" just cartoonified. I'm a huge fan - good luck with the process!

I'm just going to go ahead and assume that "Manta Manta" is a 100% historically accurate account of life in late 80's/early 90's Germany

Nah, that WOULD ruin it! The proportions are perfect as a shooting brake! In other news, I think the word the OP was searching for is Weiand (no L!) Steve "Weiand - say Why And" I believe the ads read. Not gotten much of that on mine, beyond a few people telling me I shouldn't put my ae86 on the track cos its "too rare". Meh, cars are for racing, or towing race cars.

Yes, yes I do! Currently running a custom based around a Colony Tradition frame: And racing on a Mongoose cruiser (yeah its a skatepark shot, no race shots sadly): We too have an old plonker Sunday morning ride, although I must admit I am the plonkiest plonker by far. I'm 32, started riding at 13 (racing BMX, learned to actually ride a bit before that obviously!)took a few years off in my early 20's and decided I was getting fat. Bought an MTB to get moving again but the BMX drew me back in - now I'm addicted again and looking forward to getting my daughter into it when she is ready.

As above, this series of Protons are all based on the CC series Lancer/Mirage platform
I learned to drive in a Proton Satria and dated a girl who had a Satria Gti. Not bad cars at all, mechanically unstoppable (ours went through being P plater fodder for myself and my younger brother 7 years apart, plus my father driving it an hour each way through the country for work) but squeaky, rattly and rusty
All front body panels are interchangeable with the CC Lancer/Mirage. Lots of Evo stuff bolts in (engines, seats, gearboxes). If it fits a CC Lancer it will fit one of these pretty much. There is a company called RPW in Western Australia that used to do a bunch of performance parts for them as well, including quad throttle kits and the like

I think you can have a good handling car with little power and still have fun - the major difference is grip! For example, my ae86 handles wonderfully (pretty serious suspension set up), very balanced, very little understeer, able to provide great tail out thrills at relatively low speeds. BUT put a set of semi slicks on it and all of a sudden those things that make it exciting and fun only happen at ridiculous speeds. Heaps of fun on a racetrack or hillclimb but doesn't allow much fun on the road at sensible speeds.
Good handling to me, in a sense is about predictability more than anything. So I would suggest something small & light (lots of options in UK) and run reasonable mid range road tyres (no cheapo junk as they can react unpredictably) Will be fun, not do anything untoward and you probably won't get arrested or dead

RX7 (at least the early ones) are classed as a touring car in Australia. The story goes that Allan Moffat turned up at Bathurst for a Group C race and the test of whether it was a touring car or not was to get the chief steward (maybe?)to sit in the back. If they could fit it was a touring car. Which has paved the way for rx7 dominance in a lot of places...
As for the Detomaso and Porsche, I believe these originally ran in the Australian GT category but with dwindling grid numbers the GT and Sports Sedan classes often got combined

I still think there needs to be a burnout pad We're not Australian (and I'm not a big fan of needless burnouts). Hey! I resemble that remark!
