This is my other piece of scrap, a Standard 12 pickup made from what I had lying about. It's correctly registered as a body swap at DVLA. The running gear is all Standard 12 even has cable brakes. I have done an engine rebuild and incorporated some vintage tuning along the way. Block is ported and the cam was ground by Newman Cams. Compression is up to the heady heights of 7.5:1. The inlet is home made with twin 1 1/4 SU's. The exhaust manifold is 48" long! This is an in build shot, it's gained a rear panel since. The ride is "interesting" but it's a blast in the summer.

Sweet
If it's not too complicated can you tell us more about the DVLA 'bady swap' thing?
Reason I ask is I've seen a lot of debate about turning normal cars into pick-ups. The Consul Classic/Consul Capri fraternity seem to get quite worked up about it. Venting that 'your car is illegal and will need to be scrapped' type thing.
I've heard about SVA and that there is a diffence if car has chassis or monocoque.

That's brilliant, what did you have to start with? I bought off the bay of evil a gutted Standard 12, body had been hacked off, just the grill, bonnet and rotted out bulkhead left. All the running gear in place and a V5c. I then used 1" rhs, bits of scrap sheet, two Ford pop doorskins (rotten) some oak floor boards and two ebay ally bucket seats out of something I can't remember. Add some 1938 Ford rear lights and various other bits and bobe, four 5.50 crossplys and done. It was correctly registered as a body change and is listed as "made from parts, some of which may not be new"!!

I've heard about SVA and that there is a diffence if car has chassis or monocoque. It's got more complicated as DVLA have the goalposts on wheels. When I did mine It was sufficient to have pictures of the old chassis and running gear then show the new body. Now you have to show the original body and it may have to be roadworthy (not sure on the last point). There are other subtleties regarding chassis mods and how the new body is fitted (mod the new body to fit). Monocoques go into BIVA territory as soon as you modify the shell.

Is it possible you copy paste the thread onto here? Think a lot of us are very interested in your build.

Would love to build something like this - would be nice if the rules for getting it registered in Australia weren't such a headache
