Pink triangles are nice things but I'm more into idler drive TTs. My first turntables were Garrard SP25's :-) A 401 or even a 301 would be nice but I'm more than happy with the Pink Triangle. Being brought up in Swindon Garrard was quite prominent, pity the old factory is now a Halford's. Oh and I've got a collection of Canon film SLR's (AE-1, A1, 500N) as well. Yes, the pinks are good. A friend i used to work with at rega used to work for them. Another good company making good products. I tend to use modified lencos, sometimes modified direct drives. A halfords! I suppose it could be worse 😂

The turntable is a Rega Planar 2. It came with a few upgrades. Goldring elan needle, stainless steel balance weight, aluminium drive pulley, wool platter, replacement tonearm wiring (some fancy copper litz jobby with earth and gold plated cartridge tags) and a ceramic bearing. I'm sure you'd be able to tell me if that's a load of gimmicks or whether they're decent upgrades? It sounded curse word when we got it. The aluminium drive pully was touching the glass platter (platter needed raising up) and the left channel was louder than the right, which turned out to be the needle. I've since fitted the standard rega carbon cartridge and got myself a glass protractor and scales to set it up as well as I can and it's been a huge improvement. It sounds great now and I'm hearing bits of songs I didn't know where there. Made my hair stand on end the first time I listened to bohemian rhapsody on it! Any tips, advice or general parting of knowledge would be very much appreciated! No, all worthwile upgrades. The pulley touching the platter is a little odd. 2 possibilities, the previous owner just replaced the pulley and it wasnt pushed on far enough (they are a push fit then glued), or the pulley is for a P3 (same sizes, just mount higher iirc and i think they only go on so far), or the motor has also been replaced (pretty sure it used to be rubber mounted and if it is now stuck in place the pulley ends up higher). None of that matters though, raising the platter has sorted it, as long as its not thrown the arm height out. The angle of the stylus effects the sound so if the platter raises the arm should too. Might be worth spacing the arm up by the same amount. Vinyl is amazing, has better detail retrieval than digital if you have the equipment to get it out of the groove. The speakers are interesting. I'm a fan of big paper cones (i use old tannoy dual concentrics) and old technics amps were pretty decent too. I imagine as a system it would work well together and sound pretty good.

Just curious, how expensive are parts for this box? Just wondered if this is within the normal realms of fixing cars or if its an expensive exercise that is unfortunately necessary. Same sort of costs as rebuilding a motor? Or rare, hard to get parts and therefore super painful?

Oh, hows the rega? If you need any advice on it, i was supervisor of regas turntable department for a few years and built all their high end turntables at the time so i know them pretty well. Not a Rega owner but that sounds like a cool job. I've got an early Pink Triangle PT1 that really needs some love and attention, a winter project is to get an analog system up and running. It was a great job, very nice company to work for too! Only left because i moved back up north. Pink triangles are nice things but I'm more into idler drive TTs.

What are the speakers?
Their size doesnt make them harder for a small amp to drive, its all aboit sensitivity and big drivers, especially older paper drivers, tend to be more sensitive. Thats why they are loud too.
What are the controls? Slope and filter?

Id assumed you were making a buck to take a mould off, but this is looking like your just making a one off body? Is this going to be the finished item? If so, how do you go about that, undersize the form so it ends up the right size?

Has anyone got any? I could do with 10 just to test fit/test drive my van on its 'new' wheels to check it drives ok, hence me trying not to spend loads on new ones i might only use for 5 mins.

I'm now also a little concerned about how much the wheel offset change is going to effect how it drives. Id measured so many times and i thought these were going to end up flush with the arches, but they are 25mm past!
I'm unsure whether to run them or sell them. I could buy one more part worn tyre and get the fronts on and see how it drives, but i need to buy more wheel nuts too (7/16 sleeved). I guess thats £50 to get to a point where i could test them out. But even if they are ok, i don't really want to add arch extensions.
I may fit porsche cookie cutters but id need to open out a step in the centre bore. They have the disadvantage of using m14 studs and a quick search shows they wont be cheap. Cheaper tyres though as 15".
Or, i could get some spare steels and band them. Tyres are still expensive but id be changing offset less and i could make them fit exactly as i want.
I may just stick with stock wheels and sulk about it for a while and see what my mind decides.

Without seeing exactly whats going on, id probably clean it up enough to be sure no bits are going to come off then check it will still opperate as planned.
If its supposed to be grooved, could you clean it up with a thread file? Just to remove any burrs that may come off in future?

Its been like this for months for me. I'm using android phone by the way. If you go to the bottom of the screen and go to Desktop mode, you should be able to upload photos direct from your phone with the Add Pictures button. There are two things worthy of note, firstly for some people they can't get it to work in the first post of a thread, I'm STILL trying to work out why this happens. Secondly there is a new version of the forum software incoming "soon" (been soon for the past year or so), that means there isn't going to be a mobile and non-mobile version, they will all be one thing so hopefully it will improve the mobile experience all round. Using desktop and trying both the add picture options is what gives me the first result i posted, just a wall of code. That is how i had been posting pics for a long time now, then a few months back it just stopped working for me.

Ok, so front hubs redrilled. Thought id hang a wheel off the studs and see how it sits. Bit more poke than i thought from the measurements. I could use the 7s on the back and try and find some 6s for the front but i don't see that happening! I could run them with poke, but looks a bit silly and may be a police magnet. I could fit on some cheap bolt on arches and MAYBE, possibly, at some point in the future make some steel arches if i ever managed to buy a house with a driveway.
Anyone got any suggestions for bolt on arches? (Or a pair of 6x14 appliance wire mags?)

You probably know this, but just in case...
Centres are all different sizes. When i did this i took the centre to a scrapyard and tried it in different makes of wheel barrel untill i found a wheel with a rim hoop that fitted.
If I'm telling you stuff you already know, sorry 🙂

Minimum of 2, maximum of 6. I have one badge to fit which needs 2, there are two more badges on the van which are just glued so if i could find 6 id put clips on them as extra security.
