I read though this thread slowly over the last few days when I had ten minutes here and there. Painstaking work, creativity and attention to detail. That's one sick ride.
Like the video. I just watched it with my two year old daughter who enjoyed it. Is that re-rub of 'wasting my young years' that plays a reference to all the time you spent in the garage getting this together? Great work.

I was vaguely thinking I should go up in the loft and see if I could find my model. Then you post those marvellous pictures : that's another level to my chipped and battered example. That's what they call 'collector quality'. It's good they avoided the ravages of being played with!
Obviously up to no good that milkie. Having a 'cuppa' with Mrs.. or Mrs..

Having read through the thread again I would consider it far too sad to convert this into a camper van. If you ever feel that too and need a good home for it? Probably a case of join the queue but I have quite a large family and this would suit quite well per intended design.
Looking at the pics I'm thinking that you're somewhere near Elephant/ Old Kent Rd? Being a Londoner myself I often try to spot locations. It's quite hit and miss with similar buildings all over the place but worth a punt.

Like it. I might have that Corgi one you mention in the loft or is it Dinky? I think a shot with every seat occupied and on the road. I see it on an outing to the coast ( Mexico)? Great wheels.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like the 'S. I' - maybe I should use more smileys?
Probably betraying my feelings about Range Rovers? Apart from the very early two door ones, they bring out irrational feelings : are they transport for the mustard cord brigade to the polo field or are they chav-iots? Driving from Calais back home just after last Christmas we were passed on the Autoroute by one Range Rover after another heading off to the 'white stuff'. At one point I looked ahead and counted eight almost in a convey. My wife wished she'd had some ear - defenders to hand against my rantings.
I've probably already said too much. Don't get me started on BMW X5s ( smiley).

Thankyou for the positive responses. It's a sort of therapy telling the tale! I haven't looked at the photos since we came back so it's good to re-visit the early scenes. As for 'brave pills' - it was more necessity beyond a certain point. My wife saying : you've got us into this situation, now get us out. I was pee'd off that my friend had flogged us a bit of a turkey - then wanted to wash his hands of it - but it reached a certain tipping point where I thought I was winning and too much had been invested to go back. The eventual bitter parting from my friend cast a shadow but the very basic and immediate requirements of the kids didn't allow for much reflection. Just the logistics of keeping everything going drove us from day to day and in the evening, when we were pitched in some scenic corner, the kids finally asleep and we were sat by the fire drinking a couple then it seemed like a good instinct had been followed. It takes me a bit of time to get each installment together. But I'll post this Australian Toyota advert from 1981. This is how mine would have looked when it was delivered, just a bit more brown. This is the look I favour so slowly we returned to the source.

What mpg are you getting on this? Does this unanswered question have anything to do with getting rid of it? Probably quite lucky the price of oil has been low of late.

Looks like 'petem' hasn't posted for eighteen months so it might take a while to get a response. Maybe he's AWOL in all that greeny-beige-brown velour?
Anyway, good excuse to look at that nice old barge. The last time I saw one of these was in a French scrapyard about seven years ago. I sat inside and had a waggle on the steering wheel and flew back to the late 70s. There's quite a few for sale in France on 'leboncoin.fr' if you don't mind sitting on the other side.

Nice ride. I remember when these appeared - often seen from the passenger seat of my dad's Sierra diesel workhorse/tractor in the 80s. They seemed a bit of a watered down vision after the fully blown hooligan forerunner with the wing. Now looking good.

Nice rig, nice patina. If that thing could talk it would have some tales. Good to see some real people in a post too. I enjoyed the pics and the write up. Good Luck with the MOT.
