As soon as I saw them on the way into town (he had two of them) I knew we had to give it a go. They were a little bit sketchy but he runs a couple of tours a day so all the bugs should be worked out by now! We can swim fine anyway Oh, and there was no suspension travel at all, just the giant tyres...

The heater mentioned in the post above turned up this week. It's a "fresh air" style heater which were standard on the Aussie automatic cars (Morris Mini-Matic) and optional on the Deluxe models. I thought it'd be nice to have a little bit of heat in the car and having some form of demisting for the front window would be nice too. It should be easy enough to install and also adds in some extra cooling capacity through the additional coolant volume and the heater matrix. I hadn't really had a close look at one till this one turned up, they are really simple, just a couple of pivoting flaps inside and the heater matrix. The outer case will need a repaint as its a bit scruffy (the heater matrix is removed in these photos) A quick diagram of how it works.. On the "cool air" setting it directs fresh air from the front of the car into the cabin. The hot air is directed out the side of the unit. On the "hot air" setting the hot air is directed into the cabin and the fresh air is blocked off. It's very simple and there is no fan to push the air through! The heater matrix looks to be in good condition. I flushed it through with tap water this afternoon and it came out nice and clear from the beginning, with no chunks or nasty bits coming out. It has a very minor leak at the moment so will need to get fixed and pressure tested It should fit in about here, but the coil and horn will need moving (and maybe some other things) and I need to find or make a lower bracket for the inner panel. Here is a photo of one installed for reference car-from-uk.com/sale.php?id=131722

I'm going to leave it green to motivate me to try and repair the red panels. Green ones are rusty, and if I can put them back on the green car I have a complete bash car again. In the meantime I will keep an eye out for anyone breaking an x3, and there's a couple of bits I might have to get from toyota. What parts were you still chasing? I think there was one at the wreckers near me last time I was there

I love the "sports" rocker cover And the wee Amos wheels are gorgeous. Look forward to seeing a pic with those on the car. Thanks! I've got to sort out the wheel nuts for the new wheels as I haven't found an off the shelf solution yet. I've got too many half-baked ideas and projects on the go at the moment and need to get some of them done... Wheels - fine some nuts and then strip and repaint Gearbox - assemble Engine - assemble and many parts to still buy Les Leston wheel - boss needs machining and painting and need to re-lacquer the wood Heater - purchased this week in unknown condition Seats - finish making brackets (currently first priority as it makes a mess) Dashboard - hook up the gauges, tidy tacho wiring Spotlights - find some appropriate bulbs and wire in Sports rocker cover - polish and repaint Engine bay - general tidy up (paint and wiring/plumbing) Etc!

Wow, 2017 has been really quick and I've been a bit slack in updating here! We've had some shows Some drives The headlights on the car were ugly as they stuck out past the chrome retaining ring New ones are much nicer and are nice and round I made a plywood "Speedwell" style dash We did the Rylstone Classic run for another year I picked up my nice 12G202 head from the engine shop where it had a bit of work done Another car show later in the year.. I also found some cool parts on ebay and swap meets through the rest of the year, one of which was a bargain Les Leston steering wheel Some Amos mag wheels And messed around with some rocker covers And a nice old "Sports" alloy cover too Hopefully 2018 will bring a completed gearbox and short block assembly....

Nice write up on the gearbox build. I've got a hybrid one to build for my car - 4 synchro remote with a magic wand shift on it.
That looks like an Aussie made rocker cover?

My dad's first car is still alive, and lives on in my garage (you can read about the Morris 850 in my signature). They never owned anything particularly cool (or offensive for that matter) and have a habit of holding onto them for long periods The fine selection below are all from my lifetime...(Photos are all from google searches) The first one I remember was a Ford Falcon XF wagon - silver with dickie seats in the boot (I have 3 brothers so needed the extra seats). We would have owned this car for at least 10 years... There was a 244 sedan with manual steering my mum wouldn't drive. I don't remember much of this car Then a mid 90's Tarago (a rare manual one) - Maroon which faded and peeled quite badly in the Aussie sun! We put an extra 300,000km on the clock! We must have had this car over 10 years and was the only car for a while, and the first one with air-con! There was also a Camry Wagon in light blue, manual and with a hole in the exhaust. I learned to drive in this car, it was an Australian assembled car and started to go a bit rusty around the windscreen Then there was the first new car, a Corolla hatch in silver. Still going strong after nearly 10 years We were given a Daihatsu Mira which lasted really well till the engine started to get a bit sad. It ended up getting replaced by a 3dr Charade (aka Mira) which they still have

My username matches the first email address I made, from back in 2001 when I made it to high school and they decided that we all needed to make an email address.
timmy - matches my name 201 - no idea now!
Occasionally I might be timmy850 on a forum which matches my Morris 850

Very cool! The first car I remember my parents having was an XF wagon (with a dickie seat in the boot) so this brings back some memories!

Yes, I also found it hard to justify having another fully registered car when you can only drive one at a time.. I didn't even manage to get all 60 days filled in last year despite writing in all the club events too. Filling out the logbook is very simple and I do it when I've started the car and it is warming up (Date, time, location, name, signature). If you request the plates again in future you might have to pay the annual $99 fee for personalised plates plus the one-off fee for getting them back.

No, you can go back to full registration if you want in the future. But you loose the number plate unless you transfer it to another car in the meantime.
Mine is on the historic plate scheme and enjoy saving the $900 per year! Is your club in the log-book scheme that gives you 60 days a year in addition to club events?
