With the demise of my Jeep, I find myself wanting a large (think e-class/5 series/A6 sized or bigger) estate or saloon.
No Fords or Vauxhalls - I just don't like 'em, personal preferences and all that!
No off-road 4x4s (road car based 4x4s are fine),
Nothing less than 2.5 litres unless it has a turbo. And no diesels either.
Must be able to seat 5 people, so no coupes please
Must have at least a few months MOT and preferably some tax too.
Absolute maximum I have to spend is a grand, I'd rather spend less.
Ideally as close to the East Midlands (Derby) as possible, although I could travel for the right car at the right price - I'd need collecting from a nearby coach or train station though!
Initial thoughts are leaning towards (but not limited to) a BMW E39 523/525/528 touring, BMW 7 series, Jag x300, Lexus LS400, Volvo 850 T5 estate or maybe a Saab turbo estate. You get the general idea...
Wotcha got people? Tempt me to part with some cash!!

Holy floor batman!! It is a shame to do this as it's been a cracking vehicle, but had it passed the MOT, it was going to be up for sale on Monday anyway - it's still MOT'd and taxed (both until the end of July) if anyone wants the whole thing and wants to drive away

It's just failed it's MOT on rust underneath and I just don't have the time (and can't be arsed!) to sort it, so I'm breaking it for spares and it's off to the scrapyard on Monday as that's when my insurance runs out too....
Good bits:
Single Point LPG Kit in perfect working order - closed loop system, so Lambda controlled and with a 90 litre 4-hole tank in the back. £150 15" Steel Wheels with decent 235/75/15 MT tyres on them (2 are colways, 2 are Maxxis Buckshot Mudders) £50 Bodywork in great condition Tailgate Struts are strong!! All electrics work. Air con was regassed last summer, worked for a couple of months and then didn't... So must have a leak somewhere
I can't remove any bits that mean I won't be able to drive it to the scrapyard - although it's only a mile or so away so I don't mind removing doors/seats etc.!
Or offer me £400 and take it away as is (although the LPG kit will be being removed on Sunday, so get in quick if you want it!), remove the bits you want and weigh the rest in (or fix it if you're not as lazy as me!)
The failure sheet for the MOT (aside from the rust which is above the front of the p/s rear leaf spring/seatbelt mount area) is that it requires 2 front brake lines (as they are corroded where they go through the inner wing) and a couple of number plate bulbs. That's it!
EDIT: I'm in Ilkeston, Derbyshire

Not diesel I'm afraid (Jeep diesels are 2.5), it does run on LPG though - does 17ish MPG on a steady run (so costs about the same as something doing 30+ mpg on petrol) Cheers, Martin My 1995 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 Limited will *definitely* be for sale on July 4th, as that's when my insurance runs out and I'm not renewing it. Will have 12 months MOT and tax 'til the end of July. I'm after £750 firm for it Let me know if you're interested and want pics etc? only if its diesel mate ?

not an accurate site at all. According to that there is only one kawasaki zx7r licenced on the road in 2004 and 2005. Yet I own and tax 3 and have friends who were also road riding that year (legally) If you search by the actual model on the logbook (i.e. zx750P1 or zx750p2 etc.) it shows a lot more

Just another idea - it's not a live axle, but ISTR that the ratio on the Mercedes W126 500SE diff (that I sold to Benzboy) was 2.24:1 Not sure what my spare Chevy Blazer axle ratio is, but I reckon that might be a tad large

if they have flat spots- it means the car they were on has stood for a long time and the carcass has degraded! Not necessarily down to carcass degradation - our van at work has prettymuch got octagon shaped tyres - this may or may not be due to the incorrect application of the handbrake at speed... ;D ;D

Cheers Grizz - I don't consider anything that I've done to be that skillful - as far as I'm concerned, anyone can do it, just need to think about it a bit and get stuck in! As I believe you said in a previous post 'you just get on with it'! Managed to get the T+G on the other door in yesterday (inbetween fatherly/stepfatherly/sonly/floor varnishing/fence putting up duties!), so here's how it looks now. I'll find the circular saw out tonight and hopefully have them both filled in completely. Then I'm going to make and install a couple of drop bolts to stop the doors flapping about - I'm sure I've got some round bar somewhere....!

Looking forward to popping round to see this one day soon mate - keep up the good work, and I've still got the Rangie on my drive if you need bits (same chassis as an early disco...!)
Cheers, Martin

Cheers Lewis and everyone else for your words/advice/checking in and having a look Quick update from a spare 10 minutes I had this evening (been putting fences up and varnishing a floor today... booo!) - managed to get one of the doors nearly 'fully populated' with the T+G - gives a proper idea of what they will look like I'm hoping to find the guide for my (dad's) circular saw so I can cut a piece of T+G for the last bit of the door - unfortunately it's not quite as I'd planned it. Bother. lol It's also why the last piece of T+G isn't screwed in - so I can fit the last piece and then secure it all properly!

Cheers, I'l check them out A quick bit of work when I got home this evening and that's both doors hung now (and the hinges straightened out on the other door too). A chance encounter with a neighbour who popped round led me to ask if he happened to have an electric plane I could borrow - turns out he did, so I borrowed it and took a few mm off the remaining door and hey presto, perfect fit! Incidentally, when planing something that's over six and a half feet high (with the door on it's side!), a Range Rover makes a perfect platform to work from! Happy days Hopefully tomorrow will yield the T+G being put in and the doors looking a little more like doors....!

Basically, it's illegal to own a taxed but uninsured vehicle. So long as it's insured by you, then you can sell it with as much tax as you like - it's up to the new owner to ensure he has adequate insurance.... EDIT: Too slow - what they said

Of course, with the doors getting close to completion, my thoughts turn towards the best way of securing them now - all ideas welcomed!
Then it's wiring time! Obviously it will be SWA from the house to the garage (~30m run, 16mm 3-core I think - to allow me to run anything I want in the future...!), to a 5-way consumer unit in the garage (a 3-way one would be better, but nowhere seems to do them). The circuits I need are a 16a main power circuit, 6a lighting circuit and 32a circuit for the beasty twin motor 28cfm compressor!
I ought to glaze the side windows and build the other side door too I suppose...!
More money then..... lol
EDIT: Anyone know where I can get cheap fluorescent strip lights from? 5 or 6 foot ones, I need 8, maybe 10...!

Seeing as rain is forecast for the rest of the week, I gave them a good coat of clear preservative this morning before I head off to work!
