One of my favourite photographers is Pennie Smith. She was responsible for one of the most iconic rock and roll photos which also featured this gentleman. I'll scan some I took myself back in the seventies when I can find them.

Sorry but I hate seriously dislike seeing cars being turned Banger I just think they deserve so much more. I don't follow what you mean? This is a car that has been raced from new, and has been restored to historic race specs. What's Banger about it?

Yup, as I said earlier, the DOC (Drive Other Cars) extension has been dropped. AFAIK it has always been the case that the car has to be insured. Dez is quite right ; always check the wording of the insurance policy and never assume. After all, the insurance cos. will assume nothing should a payout be involved. richr without trying to come across too twatty I don't believe many TV shows. Alot of the time they will misquote things to sensationalise the programs. But yup, I've seen questionable things before on TV . The DOC extension is still available with some policies, mine included. As far as I remember the other car has always had to belong to someone else, although it didn't used to stipulate that the car needed to be insured elsewhere. When my renewal came through it had changed to say that the other car had to be insured.

Looks like it only made it to 2011, as its been untaxed for 5 years. The car was exported, it shows as having an export marker on the DVLA site.

I like that, maybe this could be the new commuter tool I need. I'd best get thinking.
Edit, I can't find reasonable insurance to run it as a second car for commuting, so I'll have to give it a miss. Good luck with the sale.

The arrow must be a new addition to the legend, when i first read/heard it it was the pump handle that showed what side the filler was on. If it has the arrow then that does point to the filler side. The nozzle was always the BS bit. British and Japanese cars tended to have the filler on the left side as you sit in the car, and most other countries it was on the right. This dates back to when most petrol stations were just at the side of the road, we drive on the left, so that side would be nearest the pump.

If the vehicle has structural defects that make it unsafe (effectively something that would fail an MOT) then it would be illegal on the road. If you were stopped you wouldn't be done for no MOT as it has one, but you could be prosecuted for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.

My Viva with it's original rear plate and it's replacement front plate from Tippers The Tippers plates don't have the BS AU145a mark on them as the original would've had, but they're pretty good and not stupidly dear.

Excellent thanks. I realised there were some font changes but didn't realise the potential variation of them all and the details around thickness etc... I was really struggling seeing it on the net so having some detailed answers is a great help. I'll probably go for acrylic with raised letters as I think was said would suit the van best. Cheers Josh Acrylic are the plastic ones without raised letters as DMB would do, the font changed in 2001 but DMB would offer the old font. The raised plastic letters are usually on aluminium plates, such as Tippers would do. This is my Manta with what I believe to be it's original 1977 dealer plates

Acrylic plates came in about 1976 I think (I looked it up a few weeks ago as I have a 1977 Manta with what I think are original dealer acrylic plates), but you could have had rivetted plastic letter plates, or pressed ones as well. I think if it were me with that age of Transit I'd look at DMB www.dmb.uk.com/cat/122/dealer-sets and if you're lucky they'll be able to do a set of period correct acrylic plates with the original supplying dealer details on them.

This isn't my photo, it was actually taken by Keith Adams, I hope he doesn't mind me posting it. A brave man who entered the Lions Den, one of The General's finest infiltrating Henry's Heritage Centre at Dagenham.

Some people here do seem to have a problem with dealers making a profit. The thing is, if you don't think the car is worth the money, don't buy it. At least KGF is honest about being a dealer, and not pretending to be a private seller. He has spoken to me at shows, and expressed an interest in buying a couple of cars I've owned, and is always upfront about buying it to sell through the business, unlike some other classic car dealers out there.

I had a V40 Sport Lux 1.9D on a 52 plate, I absolutely loved it, kept it longer than any other car. I averaged 50mpg in mine, covering about 20,000 miles a year.

A very long time ago I got stopped in a Capri by a policeman who just wanted to talk about Capris. My experience with traffic officers has been almost entirely positive with the exception of a complete tit many years ago who pulled me for not indicating when I turned right in a right turn only lane and ranted at me for 10 minutes before giving me a 7-day wonder and telling me he'd be keeping an eye on me and my driving in future. As an aside, if you're changing direction - going from one road to another for example - you're still required to indicate, regardless of whether the road layout means your only path is that direction. My first driving instructor taught me that you didn't need to indicate if you were in a lane that only allowed you to turn in one direction. Maybe this is why I failed my first test! I do happen to think he was wrong, as indicating not only helps other drivers/riders know where you are going (who, assuming they are local may know that the lane is left turn only or whatever, but may not if they aren't local), but also pedestrians who may have no idea at all.

It was a great show, I loved the Escort van, there was a nice CA van there as well. That Celica was a nice example of "Look at what you could've won".
Oh, and should say thanks for sharing your pics, I didn't take any for some reason.

Seller maybe didn't send off the V5, or it got lost either in the post or at DVLA. Fill out a V62 form, send it off with your V5C/2 (take a copy of it first) preferably recorded delivery and you'll get your new one.
