...went the complete opposite to how people tend to build them nowdays ( retaining full chrome, colour that i have never seen a mk2 in - no its not beige its something else from the ford range , full trim in lairy colour, 6" revs on proper tyres etc) even has probably the best heater i have had in any of my cars lol. And that’s why it’s so damn spot on - love it!

I don’t see electric cars being cheaper for us consumers to run long term. Electricity demand is going to skyrocket and the price will match it. How often do we all get emails from providers saying that our bills are going up as the wholesale cost of electricity has gone up but at the same time the gas cost has reduced? This will hit even no driving households hard. I agree that the tax schemes with probably end up priced per mile.
While we are still in this transitionary phase the government will no doubt hike the fuel duty to cover lost revenue and then ‘forget’ to take it back down when new road pricing schemes are introduced.
Subsequently fuel will stay a highly taxed commodity that we will probably have to get specially delivered. I keep getting the feeling I should be stockpiling lpg powered cars! They’ll make up a small enough slice of the vehicles on the road that they might fly under the radar.

Don’t do it - had one and it was the worst car I’ve ever owned. This was about 6/7 years ago, but my experience was- Replacement injectors were £250+ each (x5), Volvo parts generally are very expensive - even for small things like bolts. I thought the build quality was a bit poor (seat leather wore very easily). The front headlights nearly always go cloudy (again even 2nd hand ones are expensive). The head units are part of some car wide fibre optic system. So for example you can’t just replace the head unit for something better. Mine also developed an ABS fault in the dash which seemed horrendously expensive to fix. Sold mine as spares and lost a lot on it.
Ive had two Volvos and unfortunately I’ve been completely put off them - shame as I like a lot of them!

Almost as good as the Chevanne. But not quite. I'd forgotten all about the Chevanne!

Passed with flying colours this evening. Finished a zoom thingy around 21.00, as this afternoon I had finally got my latest Alfa on the road I said to herself when I came down ‘shall we go for a spin in the gt’ ? Quite surprised when she said yes, so both in bedtime attire we went for a spin, maybe a mile from the house we are lit up by an unmarked car. I parked safely and got out saying ‘hi, good evening, are you ok’ ( freaks them out in central Liverpool when you are pleasant) his reply was positive and he asked how I was. We met on the footpath, I was told my car was showing as no insurance, I smiled and explained that the car was insured from 00.01 this morning, mot’d at 15.00 today and taxed at 15.20. He asked a few questions which I answered without hesitation, I said I had not brought my phone with me that I could show them saved screenshots and if they wanted they could follow me home and I would give them proof, couple more questions and I was told to go home and next time I’m out have the proof with me, seems they believed my true story, thought I would get a 7 day producer. Guess what, when I got home I went straight online to check everything, yup my story is true. Then I noticed it, a letter U in my registration is down as a Y... now I know why it is showing as not insured, simple error, I genuinely do not check when the policy is emailed, I check times and dates not reg number or car. It goes to show though that a pleasant and honest attitude goes a long way. Almost exactly the same thing happened to me about 8 years ago. I had just insured by e30 and took it out to get some fuel at about 1 in the morning.. Got pulled over by the police as it flagged as no insurance and they said I 'looked like I was trying to get away from something'! Just stayed pleasent, offered to show them the email if they wanted to follow me home (1 mile away). One was looking all over the car (state of the tyres, etc..), but in the end said 'That sounds believable enough' and they drove off.

Hope I'm not too late, if you have speakers in the doors (it's been a long time since I've been in a Capri but it looks like you have) then the best moisture barrier replacement is more sound deadening material It makes the door into a better enclosure for the speaker and makes the door even more pleasant to close Haha no, the rate I get stuff done on the car is a bit more of a glacial pace

Only a minor update and no pictures (not much to see!). I adjusted the mixture screw on carb no.3 as that was the one that would sometimes spit back. 1/4 turn at a time until the spitting was gone. Took it for a little drive and it felt a bit smoother - so that was a nice improvement for 15 mins work. With the filter removed and revving it up I can see some disparity in how much the vacuum slides move. Roll on payday so I can give balancing the carbs a proper go.

I haven’t had the Capri out since we took it to one of the drive in movies at one worth about a month ago. Plus July/August are normally rubbish and wet anyway... I really need to get the carbs set up properly at some point - the trouble is finding somewhere to do it. It’s ok, but there are some symptoms of them running a bit lean...Revs tend to hang, and especially in the eve when it’s colder it gets a bit hesitant at light throttle. Funds aren’t great at the moment so I thought I’d have ago with shimming the needle main needle jets as I’d read somewhere that this can often overcome issues of running lean. Mine don’t have the adjustable grooves, so it’s a case of putting one or more 0.5mm washers: Plus it was an excuse to replace the soft easily wrecked cross head screws with allen head ones. Like most people from a non-bike background, I didn’t even know they are a different standard (JIS) which is why they often get wrecked by non JIS screwdrivers! Unfortunately it didn’t have the effect I’d hoped for. The revs didn’t hang but it put a serious dent in responsiveness and felt very bogged down. Oh well, it was worth a go. I need to have a bit more of a read up on tuning bike carbs...and probably give balancing them a go. I was chatting to the guy who rents the lockup next to me who’s into his scooters and he was saying that the jets all overlap a lot more than on the original Webber, so it’s probably worth playing with the air screw. Whereas I think on the old Webber all that did was set the idle mixture setting. I also had a go at fitting the sound deadening material I bought a while back which didn’t get wrecked when the lockup got minorly flooded 😡 That turned out to be a satisfying job and one step closer to getting the interior sorted. Btw has anyone got any recommendation for a replacement for the moisture barrier? I’ve seen you can get something like this from screwfix www.screwfix.com/p/capital-valley-plastics-ltd-vapour-barrier-green-300ga-20-x-2-5m/12869 but I was also wondering if cutting up an old rubble sack would be just as good?

I’ve always struggled with this quandary... I took a bodywork course 10+ years ago where we did gas and then mig welding.. it was good, but there always seemed to be a massive difference between doing it in a nice big workshop vs outside driveway staring at a bit of car you don’t really know how to fix! I’ve never been able to bridge that gap personally...
Ideally I needed to try it out on something I didn’t care about...and that was never going to be the Capri!
Bit like the first time I wet sanded scratches out of paintwork...it was on stuff I couldn’t make any worse 😂

I had a pair of CJ Autos scissor ramps and I used them once and sold them as they were too much of a faff. It’s not as fancy as some of the other options people have said, but I use some of these style plastic ramps: www.amazon.co.uk/DURHAND-Plastic-Workshop-Automotive-Portable/dp/B07MBXRSXV/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=Plastic+ramps&qid=1598099499&sr=8-6They are so much better than the old metal types. These are actually wide enough for modern car tyres! Plus the ramp angle is shallower. For service type maintenance or those times u just want to get a car off the ground I use them a lot. Get two sets and you can get the whole car off the ground (ok, you might still need the jack for one end).

No one knew where ford prices would be come today. My mates went through so many fiestas and escorts as they were so cheap, £400 for a mint lower mile mk3 escort is one example. At the time everyone thought that was way too much. You say that, but 10 year old me realised that would disappear. I remember being in my mums car and realising that mk3/4 escorts were as common as mk4/5 cortina’s had been a few years before and that in a few years they would also vanish - and they did. I used to wish I could buy up all of them to stop people scrapping them! I remember looking for new company cars with my dad and thinking how crazy the prices were for cars that I didn’t like as much as old fords. Unfortunately at the time my pocket money wouldn’t stretch . Also the amount being banger raced well into the 00’s was shocking...

Sparkie83 I'll sell you this for £250 if your interested meguires mt320 machine only used a couple times and most of the pads and bottles are still unopened. It's a full paint restoration kit. Cheers for the offer 88zxturbo, but it’s more than I really wanna spend. I’m not one for washing/detailing my cars

I used to subscribe to Classic Ford back in it’s hay day of the early-late 00’s. After that prices went up and money being spent on feature cars skyrocketed and I stopped buying. I’ve always purchased Practical Classics every now and then from being an 7/8 year old! I’ve been a subscriber for the past 5-6 years as it’s nice to take a brake from staring at a screen all day long and I do find it a good read.

Also bear in mind the 80% guideline (it is not a legal requirement but good sense). Unless you are an experienced tower and know how to deal with such events as snaking it is not a good idea to have your caravans weight exceed 80% of the tow cars weight. This is why I originally didn’t use it to tow with...as it’s about at the 80% guideline. Ideally I would be using something heavier to tow with as it would feel more comfortable. I’ve only had snaking incidents when I accidentally went too fast. It’s good to know what to do in that situation tho I did previously use a 1.9tdi passat and you couldn’t even tell you were towing it,

They were off fb marketplace...I think the guy I got them from said they came off a car transporter trailer. I’d been looking for a while, but all the Wellers I came across the chrome was rusty and they were Ford 4x108 fitment, so would have needed adapters. These were 4x100 (which is what most caravans seem to be), so I figured I’d spend the cash I would have needed on adapters on getting them powder coated in chrome effect instead they were white originally:

My new (to me) daily is made up of panels from different cars, spray paint, marks from debadging and scratches. It’s never going to be perfect, but I feel that giving it a good go over would help tie it together slightly.. . Can anyone recommend something to do the job. I’m not planning on staring a new career as a detailer (although I have had to wet sand some of the scratches out of the above!) ^^ That makes it sound kinda epic...it’s really not..it’s a focus. So here is a picture of my Capri when it was in its mismatch panels phase as penance

I think people often think you need something big to tow a caravan, but depending on the size, it’s amazing what you can use! I quite often tow our folding one + roof box + 5 people in the car no problems with our daily 1.6tdci Fusion... Back in the day a 1.6 petrol Cortina would have been a pretty common tow car (with much less torque)..

I’ve been trying to retro up our folding caravan Weller style wheels fitted.. I have since removed some of the stickers on the side and added more orange reflectors. I’m also going to paint the wheel arches black as well as a few changes.
