I wish I could extract some kind of joy or satisfaction from car cleaning - but that is not gonna happen š¤£. Using wax to make it easier next time round Iām up for trying tho.
Car detailers look away now. So on the subject - āwaterlessā wash sprays - anyone use them?

I've got to say that I also hate washing my cars. For me, I like the driving part of car ownership the most, maintenance, cleaning, and everything else is just a necessary evil I'm afraid, so this is what I do to keep my car clean... Yay so I'm not the crazed loner I thought I was afterall āŗļø I've got to admit my least effort method is: wait till it rains then go out with the bucket of shampoo. That way nature does 2/3 of the job for me...

I spend my working day at a computer, and my evenings interfering with a fleet of cars and aeroplanes which may very well be better off if I left them well alone. Cram in time spent trying to do the 'decent husband' thing and I just don't have time to be glued to yet another screen watching what I am sure is very good content ^^ so much yep! I genuinely can't remember ever hearing anyone else saying this - by after all day looking at a screen I try not to spend the eve doing the same. (Yes, ok tonight i'm failing haha)

This is probably a very unpopular opinion, but I absolutely HATE washing/drying and (sometimes) polishing cars. I know some in the car world love nothing more than spending hours doing it...and I kinda wish I was one of them; but I'm not So what's the alternative? I always hear stories of automated ones basically being the equiv of washing your car with sandpaper. Whenever I see a hand car wash I wonder how many times that sponge has been dropped today and what 'cleaning' fluid is in the little spray bottle. I can't be the only one...can I?

You can get the motorbike style removable ones: I fitted one to my Capri to quieten down some of the drone (which in fairness it did), but ended up missing the noise and took it back out again!

Next was MOT time and it failed on rear ARB bushes. Annoying as I thought i'd take the opportunity to fit a 14mm rear bar, but then couldn't find one anywhere so had to opt for a 12mm. I wasn't having a good month - the wheel fell off our folding caravan. Guess it could have been worse - it could have been on the way there rather than the way back! Most the damage was cosmetic, as the chassis took most of the impact and I wasn't going very fast. Anyway, back to the Capri - Superflex don't do ARB Capri bushes, so I bought some Powerflex ones that crumbled and tore when I installed them. It's now got some lovely bright orange floflex ones as they were the only other ones I could find. No pictures as I was fed up at this point, and just wanted the car going again. Also i'm not sure why it failed on the existing bushes as they were fine when I took them off. Serves me right for taking it to a different MOT place. While I was there I fitted the 1.5" lowering blocks I bought, as since i've had the single leafs it's sat a tiny bit too high at the back for my eye on the 1" blocks. Before: After: Fitted everything back on and did what I should have done in the first place and booked it at my friendly MOT garage! It was at this point I started to wonder if I was ever actually going to get round to sorting the 2.0 engine. I know some people build them with their eyes shut. Although I'd managed to take everything apart, clean, prep and buy parts I was actually questioning how long it would take me rather than if I had the skills. This was one of those times where I took a hard look and realised I needed help getting the engine back together if I stood a chance of ever doing the swap. I found a local engine builder - dropped off everything I had collected as asked them to put it all all back together for me when they had a chance. 2 days later I got a call...

I haven't updated this for a while, so i'll try and make sure I do this in the correct order. So from last time - dash was out and I was getting various bits of the dash back together. I've had a black uncracked dash sat at the back of the lockup for ages ...so that went back in: I also sorted the choke cable position. Thumbscrew + grinder and I was able to reuse the factory choke position (I can't actually ever remember seeing a capri that uses it) More to come, as this doesn't even take us over last winter ;-)

Iām looking forward to itās a cheap enough to be viable for my Capri.
To me itās the appeal of just being able to jump in it and go - and not having to tweak something/fix something which has decided to break since I last drove it for no apparent reason. With 3 cars - anything that cuts down on maintenance is a good thing.

I carry a smallish toolkit, strong tape and cable tie in all my cars. Donāt think theyāve ever come in handy during a breakdown haha!
My last one was when the wheel fell off my folding caravan. Needed a decent jack and some spare wheel bolts to fix that so it got recovered. Before that was a wheel bearing that completely disintegrated on the way back from scotland (500 odd mile trip) on my Fusion. Before that was a cracked block on my Mondeo. Not a lot you are gonna do about those with cable ties and a screwdriver š

Iāve lost count of how many times Iāve been recoveredā¦if anything I find it kind of a grounding experience which brings me back to reality after a period of not having any incidents! Itās more of a case of when, not if, so just donāt stressā¦ I agree that working on cars means itās harder to ignore noises and feelings that other motorists would turn the stereo up at!
The best cure I have come across is to watch some of the Hub Nut videos on YouTube of trips in his Invacar! Eg, if he can drive it from Wales to Birmingham for the NEC and back then you should be fine š

Load of b******s and especially annoying to those who did a B+E just pre pandemic, used it twice and now 'oh don't worry about that' - like me. I've FOI requested the DVSA to ask how many B+E testers can Class1&2 test - no response yet. It's a serious road safety issue, you can pass in a 1000kg Vauxhall Corsa and then get in a Land/Range Rover or pickup and drive with a train weight of 7 tonnes the next day. Ridiculous. It'll get changed when some kid towing a caravan kills someone. That is frustrating to go through it, only to the find itās no longer required! I kept āplanningā to do mine, so I could tow a bigger caravan (rather than the folding one I currently do), but never got round to it. For me - I am glad of the changes coming inā¦the grandfather licence differences that exist do annoy me - eg, I donāt see why I cannot drive a van over 3.5t but my 70 year old mum can! Playing devils advocate - thereās nothing stopping some rich kid passing their test in a corsa then jumping into a Veyron

I would stick with the pinto unless you want a project sat on your drive for the next 10 years which will drain your energy and money while the bodywork goes south. Better to keep using it and enjoying it for the next 10 years then put and electric motor in it when thatās at a drop in/kit phase š

Yup - just need to be sneakier! When I needed to get rid of an old petrol tank we took it to the tip wrapped in an old sheet. I distracted the guy on guard by asking him where something else went while my bro in law threw it over the side. Iāve since found a local scrap metal guy whoāll take most stuff.

Would I buy another: Yep In fact I tried to, but couldnāt find another one such good nick. Ended up with an e46 320d touring that I never quite clicked with (probably cause in my heart I knew i should have held out for a 330d)

Salvage rebuilds is a great channel I wish I didnāt find the presenter guy so annoying. Itās always coming up on my recommended list and so interesting looking things going on. Watched one episode but only so much āat the end of the dayā I could takeā¦ I have been watching Ed China despite also feeling like some jobs are being unnecessary dragged out. Eg Range Roverā¦you know the fuel lines are shot and gonna have be replaced, so why p!ss about plugging in an airline to see exactly where the hole is!!! Soup classic motoring Iām up to date with
