Well, not often you start a thread without even owning the car, but here goes
I've been offered a pretty rusty 4 door Mk1 for a song. Problem being, is I don't like the 4 door at all.
I've had a swizz around google and I can't find any pictures of anyone who has done this. I've found a few where people have welded the rear doors up and called it a 2 door, but I'm going to move the B pillar back, fit some 2 doors, and then make the appeture to hold a 2 door rear window.
Anyone got any links to someone who has done this before?

there are lots of sweet 4 doors out there, but I prefer the 2 doors, and the fact I can get a rusty but complete 4 door for a tenth of a rusty and unecinomical to repair 2 door, I thinks its time for a proper conversion thread.

well if modifying your gear box tunnel to fit a 5 speed is BIVA and your illegally driving around in a death trap unless your car goes for a BIVA, then yes, BIVA

Thought 2 doors and 4 doors where the same length.
I saw a forest arched four door out in ireland once. Looked mega!

Yup saw that cortina before, really well done, and the days before BIVA, and cheap to do too, cause you can buy a 2 door cortina still for sweeties, where as a 2 door escort costs bucks. Thought 2 doors and 4 doors where the same length. LOL, Really? No guy they are totally different, in length, in shape, even the window frame is totally different.....do you know the car we are talking about? Its made by ford from 1968 to 1976

This is one of those projects that is hopefully a "If I'm going to do X I might as well do Y while I'm at it". Go for the 2 door conversion, make it a pillarless while you're at it

I remember that one, cool as hell. Wonder what happened to the guy, his last posts looked promising ;D I'd say go for it, can't be that hard. Seen a few yanks done here, some look like curse word, but obviously it can be done to look good. If you'd find a rear side window frame of a 2 door it'll be a piece of cake, but i guess it could be made using the window frames of the rear doors too.

good 2dr escort doors can cost a fortune if you can find a good pair at all and extending the 4dr doors wouldn't be easy I think the 4drs look ok but if its cheap and you can do it then why not good luck

Theres nowt wrong with 4drs Apparently 4drs are a stronger shell, something to do with more curves in the metal.... I personally think you'll tow to find decent rear quarters and doors without spending a fortune... Good luck

I personally think you'll tow to find decent rear quarters and doors without spending a fortune... Good luck Doors I have, paid £30 for the pair a coupe weeks ago, failing that if I hadn't they can easily be got for around £40 each in reasonable condition. Rear quarters won't be needed, the majority of them are bubble arches, the b post will be kept and just boxed over to replicate a 2 door b post, the c post just wants some careful reprofileing, and then the window appeture made. Failing that again, there is a roof on eBay with the top section of the rear appetures, that never seams to get it's opening bid of £120, but nothing a joggler and some dollying couldn't sort. The 4 door I've been offered for £75, and isn't in to bad a shape, it's got repairable, inner front wings, rear quarters apart from the arches are ok, and it's an auto, so it will be a repair rather than a modification, so I checked it out, it will just be an mot, not a BIVA:) Unlike my bm hybrid
