Has anyone ever had any success with building their own exhaust manifold? I've got a 'custom made' 4 branch & to put it polite it's BOBBINS! So thinking of cutting the flanges off it & starting again, but wondering if anyone on here has tried it & how it worked out?

Very nice indeed, excellent out of the box thinking with the foam filled pipes, and the method for equal length primaries is very neat indeed.

Wow, lovely pipework. Whats going on in the filler foam pic with the black pipes? what is the black pipe? guessin its an easy way to work out the angles needed! either way the system is mighty impressive! Thanks, Guys! Yep, the foam filled stuff is just heater/defroster tubing. I wasn't sure which type would work better, the foil or the cardboard tubing, so I tried them both. The foil type was bent to a radius that matched the mandrel bent tubing that I planned to use and then filled with foam. The cardboard tubing was quite a bit stiffer and wouldn't maintain the proper radius, so I ran some wire inside of it and tied it tight to keep the radius, and then it was fill with foam. It turned out that the foil tubing was not quite rigid enough to create consistent radii (it moved around and flexed too much), even with the foam inside. The cardboard tubing worked out perfectly (very rigid), and if I were to do it again, I would create full copies of the mandrel U-bends that were used for the exhaust by hot gluing the tubing to a piece of cardboard in the exact shape of the U-bend. That would allow me to do a 100% mock-up of every tube and give me a perfect template to use for cutting the tubing.

Do a search for Bend Tech HD software. It's not too expensive and they make sone very useful software. You can design the manifold and it gives you angles and lengths to cut from standard J bends that you can buy off the shelf.

this is real useful for doing tube/pipe work ... "tubemiter.exe by Giles Puckett" enter the tube diameter, wall thickness, joining tube diameter, wall thickness & joining angle & it will give you a template for cutting. a search should find it, its free. or pm me & i'll send it .
