Sorry if this is a bit of a personal thread but today is the ten year anniversary of my dad passing away and it's more than likely his fault I got into the whole car thing in the first place. Certainly being driven around in a heavily breathed on SD1 Vitesse during my late teens helped! No pics of that unfortunatly but here's one of him in the mid 60's working on his tweaked Norton Dominator on which he once raced a Lotus Cortina down the A5 through North Wales. Check the reg. no! Thanks for listening...

Comisserations to you and your family, sounds like he was a cool sort of bloke in his day, what with the tinkered about SD1 and the hot bike.

it's sad that he's not still around, but it's nice that you're so proud of him and thinking about him. Sounds like a quality upbringing you had, i got ferried around in a Sunbeam

Thanks for the kind words peeps. I've thought about starting a "dad's cars" thread when I find a photo of the Vitesse to scan or has that already been done?

great photo seth. my dad has been dead for 13 years now, I'm not fortunate enough to have any pics of him tinkering, or any of his cars that have inspired me. he didnt have anything that was modded but most of what he had when i was a kid, you lot are driving now.

hmm, thats an Ace photo... my Dad unfortunatly hasn't been into cars and bikes since he stripped the engine out of a Viva and rebuilt it in midwinter... ever since then he's paid someone else to do it for him, and he's currently driving a Seat Leon :s... my Mum's much more into cool cars though ... even if she currently has a Jag diesel... nearly managed to persuade her to get an S15 Silvia Spec R when she was looking for the jag

:)It's great that you have such good memories of your dad..when you feel upset about his death, remember it's better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all. My dad isn't worth knowing, but I do have some special memories of my late grandad who was and still is my hero. He's the one that inspired my love of cars, and also started my love and obession with Skodas at the ripe old age of 12! [22 years ago].

Nice pic, and what a cool license plate! My father passed away seven years ago this Feb. and i KNOW i got my car obsession from him ;D I thought that i have had many cars, but as i heard from my grandma, i`m nowhere near my dad ;D So, a methaphorical glass raised to all those fathers and other people that have led us on the right direction before they passed away. Cheers

My Dad's in his mid 70's now, still does some work on his car (Mondeo diesel) not as much as he used to... he's gradualy giving me a lot of his old kit... says I have more use for it now, just this morning he gave me a roll of mig wire and some curved tinsnips. He used to do all his own repairs, and him and a mate did other people's cars in the evenings and at weekends... it's a standing joke in our family that I didn't know he was my Dad, I thought he was just some bloke that lived in the garage... ;D Anyway. as a tribute, here's a picture of us both... , and a ratty Peugeot 404!

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.
